Om polisen och vetenskapen: två föreläsningar2023Report (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [sv]

A systematic review of direct preference measurements in health states treated with plastic surgery2021In: Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, ISSN 2000-656X, E-ISSN 2000-6764Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

One way to compare health care needs and outcomes on common scales is by estimating the strength of preferences or willingness-to-pay (WTP). The aim of this study was to review directly measured preference values and WTP estimates for health states treated by plastic surgery. The included articles had to meet the criteria defined in the SPIDER (Sample, Phenomenon of Interest, Design, Evaluation, Research type). Relevant databases were searched using predetermined strings. Data were extracted in a standardised manner. Included studies were appraised according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach for rating the importance of outcomes. In total, 213 abstracts were retrieved. Of these, 179 did not meet the inclusion criteria and were excluded, leaving 34 studies in the review. The risk of bias was considered moderate in four studies and serious in the rest. The overall certainty of evidence for directly measured preference values and WTP estimates for health states treated by plastic surgery is low (Grade ƟƟОО). The lowest preference scores were generally elicited for facial defects/anomalies and the highest for excess skin after massive weight loss. Scientific knowledge about preferences and the resulting health gains might play an essential role in deciding which procedures should be considered for public funding or rather rationed within the system. Better quality studies are required to allow for such applications.

Ledarskap under coronakrisen inom restaurangbranschen2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 180 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a big impact on our society. In Sweden the restaurant industry is one of the most affected industries. In a crisis like this it is required that leaders act to ensure that the organization survives. The leader is the one who can affect the organization in all aspects, from financial decisions to personnel management. Therefore, the leaders carry a big responsibility on their shoulders. The purpose with this study is to investigate how a crisis like Covid-19 affects leadership within the restaurant industry and what changes leaders have made to be able to deal with the pandemic. This study will hopefully contribute to increased understanding on how leadership has changed during the Covid-19 pandemic and what effects it has had. The collected data in this study will hopefully be explained by three different leadership styles. The study has been implemented with a qualitative method through semi structured interviews with leaders within the restaurant industry. The result of this study shows differences and changes that have taken place in the leadership of the leaders who have been interviewed. All interviews have been interpreted and compared with the study’s theoretical framework. A crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic has had a major effect on organizational cohesion and employee motivation. This has resulted in a focus directed towards the human factor of the leadership. This study is written in Swedish.

Be prepared and do the best you can: a focus group study with staff on the care environment at Swedish secure youth homes2023In: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, ISSN 1748-2623, E-ISSN 1748-2631, Vol. 18, no 1Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study focuses on the care environment of secure youth homes run by the Swedish National Board of Institutional Care, where youths up to 21 years old are placed according to law due to extensive care needs or sentences.

    Purpose

This study examined staff members’ experiences of the institutional care environment within secure youth homes.

    Methods

Data were collected through three focus group discussions with 17 staff members at two secure youth homes. Subsequently, a thematic analysis was conducted.

    Results

The analysis indicated two main themes: risk management and damage control in a restricted environment and compensating and reconstructing ordinariness—trying to make the best of it; each theme had three subthemes. The care environment seems to be experienced by staff as characterized by conflicting demands, thus constituting a gap between needs and what is possible to achieve—a balancing act that constitutes a constant struggle.

    Conclusions

The staff members’ constant struggle could be interpreted as conflicting moral and instrumental demands; they know what the youths need, but the environment of the secure youth homes demands the decorous behaviour of sociomaterial control practices—rather than care practices.

Patient experience of implant loss after immediate breast reconstruction: An interpretative phenomenological analysis2021In: Health Care for Women International, ISSN 0739-9332, E-ISSN 1096-4665Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) is an integral part of modern breast cancer treatment. Our aim was to investigate patient experience with implant loss after IBR by using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). We conducted semi-structured interviews with eight informants. We analyzed data according to the IPA flexible seven-stage process and four main themes were developed: immediate breast reconstruction as the indisputable choice, a difficult experience, an altered body: redefining normality, and trying to cope. The experience of implant loss appears to affect women for many years and might overshadow some of the benefits of IBR.
