Syfte: Studiens syfte är att undersöka faktorer som påverkar svenska textil- och modeföretags beslut att överväga nearshoring metoder i sin produktion.

Metod: Studien är av kvalitativ metod som baseras på semistrukturerade intervjuer av sex svenska textilföretag. Insamling av empiriska material har genomförts via en induktiv ansats.

Resultat och slutsatser: Resultatet visar att nearshoring bidrar till ökad flexibilitet och kontroll av försörjningskedjan. Ökad flexibilitet och kortare avstånd har visat sig vara konkurrenskraftigt i en bransch med snabbt svängande trender i design och efterfrågan. Utmaningarna som uppstår är högre kostnader vid implementering. Detta för att material, kunskap och kapacitet räcker inte till i Europa i dagsläget. Detta gör att framförallt att mindre företag behöver kompensera på design eller kvalitet för att hålla nere priset för slutkund. Slutsatsen blev att företagen som lyckats med nearshoringstrategin har etablerat bra leverantörsrelationer och rätt resurser. Nearshoring kräver långsiktig planering och en god anpassningsförmåga men kan på lång sikt skapa goda konkurrenskraftiga fördelar.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that affects Swedish textile and fashion companies' decisions to consider nearshoring methods in their production.

Method: The study is based on a qualitative method and draws on semi-structured interviews with six Swedish textile companies. The empirical data was collected using an inductive approach.

Result and conclusion: The result of this study embodies that nearshoring contributes to further flexibility and control over the supply chain. Enhanced flexibility and shorter distances has shown to be a force of resistance in an industry with rapidly changing trends in design and demand. The challenge that many companies face is the increase of cost during implementation of nearshoring. Due to the current shortage of materials and limited knowledge and capacity in European production. For smaller businesses it has to compensate for design and quality in order to control the price for the end consumer. The conclusion is that companies that succeeded with nearshoring strategies have established proper supplier relationships and the right resources. Nearshoring demands long-term planning and good adaptability and can over the long term create strong competitive advantages.
