Astral Project explores through critical design thinking alternative perspectives on knitting, gender, and dress. The work questions the binary perception of gender and discusses gender in relation to spirituality by addressing the being within the body, visualised through material development of knit structures and color interaction, with a focus on expressing duality. This change of perspective is also explored within the technical development of this work, where an alternative perspective on knitting resulted in the development of a horizontal whole garment construction method, where partial knitting is used to shape the material within the knitting process. The collection showcases garments knitted in one piece that wrap around the body and are held in place by the use of constructed holes for legs, arms, and head. The work has the potential to be explored further within both a refined garment construction method, but also within a more artistic and explorative work focusing on shape and volume.
