Improved sustainability with AI : A qualitative study on AI-driven traceability as a strategy for ESPR in the fashion industry (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study examines how artificial intelligence (AI) can be integrated into fashion industry supply chains to promote traceability and transparency, in line with the EU's new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). A qualitative case study of Kappahl and their use of the traceability tool TrusTrace examines how AI solutions can facilitate the collection, verification and analysis of sustainability data. The results show that AI has great potential to improve sustainability work, especially through automation of certificate review and identification of deviations. At the same time, several obstacles are identified such as lack of data quality, manual data entry and insufficient system integration. The study shows that AI's full potential is not only a technical issue, but requires organizational adaptations, standardization and a long-term strategy. The work also emphasizes the importance of proactive work in the preparations for ESPR and the digital product passports to be created, as well as a collaboration between technology, organization and policy to achieve sustainable and transparent supply chains. Note that this study is written in Swedish.
