Consumer behavior : A quantitative study on the effect of the plastic bag tax on consumer behavior (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the tax on plastic carrier bags affects sustainable consumer behavior in Sweden. Through a quantitative survey and an analysis of secondary data, the short-term and long-term effects of the plastic bag tax that was introduced in 2020 and eliminated in 2024 are studied. The results show that the tax reduced the consumption of plastic bags and that this change in behavior still largely remained after the tax was abolished, indicating that long-term habits have been established. Price sensitivity and environmental concern were identified as important influencing factors, while social factors had a weaker impact. The study highlights how economic instruments can contribute to promoting sustainable consumption habits over time. The language of the thesis is Swedish.
