Bakgrund: Cancer är en global och livshotande sjukdom som drabbar årligen miljontals människor runt världen. Diagnosen är en svår och en lång resa som präglas av fysiskt och psykiskt lidande. De existentiella frågorna om meningen av livet och döden blir centrala. Det är avgörande att kunna förstå dessa olika upplevelser och förbättra den palliativa vården för att främja ett meningsfullt och värdigt slut. Syfte: Att beskriva hur patienter med en palliativ cancerdiagnos upplever livets slutskede. Metod: Litteraturöversikt med kvalitativa studier. Databaserna som använts är CINAHL och Medline. Resultat: Resultatet baserades på åtta kvalitativa artiklar. Resultatet är indelat i tre huvudkategorier och sex subkategorier som beskriver patienter som lever med cancer i livets slutskede. Den första huvudkategorin identifierades som Att möta döden med två subkategorier: Religiös och andlig betydelse, och Acceptans. Den andra huvudkategorin identifierades som Stödets betydelse med två subkategorier: Familjens roll och Vårdpersonalens roll. Den tredje huvudkategorin identifierades som Att leva med lidande med två subkategorier: Smärta och Psykiska besvär. Diskussion: Resultatet visade att patienter som lever med cancer i livets slutskede upplever fysiskt, psykiskt och existentiellt lidande. Tro på högre makt, acceptans av döden och stöd från närstående och vårdpersonal har stor betydelse. Resultatet stämmer överens med tidigare forskning som betonar behovet av personcentrerad vård. Slutsatser: Sjuksköterskans kompetens och lyhörda bemötande är avgörande för en värdig vård i livets slutskede.

Background: Cancer is a global and life-threatening disease that affects millions of people around the world every year. The diagnosis is a difficult and long journey characterized by physical and psychological suffering. The existential questions about the meaning of life and death become central. It is crucial to be able to understand these different experiences and improve palliative care to promote a meaningful and dignified end. Purpose: To describe how patients with a palliative cancer diagnosis experience the end of life. Method: Literature review with qualitative studies. The databases used are CINAHL and Medline. Results: The results were based on eight qualitative articles. The results are divided into three main categories and six subcategories that describe patients living with cancer in the end of life. The first main category was identified as Facing death with two subcategories: Religious and spiritual significance, and Acceptance. The second main category was identified as The importance of support with two subcategories: The role of the family and The role of the healthcare professional. The third main category was identified as Living with Suffering with two subcategories: Pain and Mental Disorders. Discussion: The results showed that patients living with cancer in the final stages of life experience physical, mental and existential suffering. Belief in a higher power, acceptance of death and support from loved ones and healthcare professionals are of great importance. The results are consistent with previous research that emphasizes the need for person-centered care. Conclusions: The nurse's competence and responsive approach are crucial for dignified care in the final stages of life.
