Women’s experience of living with cervical cancer (English)
Abstract [en]

Background: Cervical cancer is a global women’s disease where women experience suffering as a result of the disease and its treatment. There is a stigma surrounding cervical cancer that can lead to feelings of guilt and shame among those affected. The various treatment options all come with side effects that can impact fertility and wellbeing. The nurse’s approach is important for women to feel seen and cared for. Purpose: To highlight women’s experience of living with cervical cancer. Method: Literature review with qualitative studies. The databases used are CINAHL and PubMed. Results: The results are divided into three categories and six subcategories that describe how these patients experience living with cervical cancer. Eleven articles were used, presenting suffering in various forms, but also the importance of good care and positive relationships for the meaning of the experience. Conclusions: Through the support and care of nurses, women can have a better experience during their illness. Addressing sensitive topics and involving partners in conversations can help reduce stigma and strengthen the relationship between women and their partners.
