A Sea of Emotions : A literature review that highlights patient's experiences about lifestyle changes with diabetes type 2 (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Diabetes type 2 is a growing public health problem nationally and internationally. Factors such as education, employment and income have been shown to have an impact on individuals health. Risk factors and lifestyle choices such as diet, physical activity, tobacco habits and use of alcohol are important for both the development of diabetes type 2 and its complications. When a patient suffers from diabetes type 2, does the treatment not only include a pharmacological treatment, but also requires the patient to be committed and motivated to change their lifestyle in order to achieve good health. The aim with this literature review was to highlight the patient’s experiences about lifestyle changes with diabetes type 2. The chosen method was an integrative compilation of qualitative studies inspired by metasynthesis. The literature review included 13 articles, of which 11 were qualitative and two were with mixed methods. The results are presented with tree main themes, motivation to change, a limiting illness and a sea of emotions which generated six subthemes. With the result in mind, patient’s lack of motivation, information and support, wellbeing and the socioeconomic aspects were discussed.
