Public librarians reflections on their professional role and policy documents (English)
Abstract [en]

This qualitative study examines how librarians at public libraries in a municipality with one of Sweden largest cities reflect on their professional role in relation to policy documents. The purpose is to generate knowledge about how librarians reflect on their professional role in relation to policy documents. The research questions are: How do librarians at public libraries describe their attitude to policy documents? How do librarians at public libraries reflect on their professional role in relation to policy documents? The method is semi-structured interviews. The participants are five librarians. The results were analysed with Archers (2003) theory of the inner conversation. The results show that the librarians reflect on their professional role in relation to what they perceive to be important in their professional role, and the way they reflect, to some extent, affects how they relate to policy documents.
