Several factual texts and research articles discuss the fact that principals have an outdated view on what a School librarian can do in the classroom. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to develop a deeper understanding of how Primary School Principals view the School librarian as an educational asset. The empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five Primary School Principals and the results were analysed by using an edited Loertscher’s library taxonomy for principals. The taxonomy consists of eight work areas and a principal is supposed to work in all of them simultaneously to make the most effective school library. The analysis using the taxonomy was conducted to see how many levels the responding principals worked with to integrate the school librarian in the classroom. The results show that the responding principals have some more work to do before they are working on all the levels in the taxonomy and there is potential to integrate the librarian more in the educational activities. Our thesis agrees with what the literature says about the principals understanding of what the School librarian can do as an educational asset in the classroom.
