Referencing is extremely important in academic and research papers as it affects scholarly progress. Research has shown that students often struggle with reference creation and for this reason they should be assisted in creating references and citations correctly. This assistance often derives from relevant applications which assist students formulate their references. Despite the plethora of available applications, their adoption remain slow, highlighting the need for tailored solutions. This research project aims at investigating the usefulness of integrating a reference creation application and is aligned with the Information Literacy (IL) workshops at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) to assist students in formulating their references. Through a constructive research approach, the study involves three phases: preparation, design, and evaluation. The case study methodology, using observation, semi-structured interviews, and the System Usability Scale, ensures a thorough evaluation. The project aspires to shed light on whether or not, the integration of such an application in the students’ workflow, while keeping a consistent interface with their working online environment, can increase the use of such applications, which are made to address citation and referencing issues and contribute to academic progress and integrity within the academic communities.
