Abstract [en]

This thesis aims to systematically review existing literature to explore the current state-of-the-art 3D printing techniques in the textile and fashion industries, with a focus on sustainability. The study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of how 3D printing is transforming these sectors, emphasizing innovative practices and sustainable solutions enabled by this technology. Using a systematic review approach, the thesis examines existing research on the applications of 3D printing in fashion and textiles, particularly focusing on sustainability aspects. Additionally, it conducts a SWOT analysis of two brands employing 3D printing. The findings reveal a gap in systematic reviews, with limited attention given to 3D printing in these industries. It discusses the multifaceted impacts of 3D printing on sustainability, including economic, social, and environmental dimensions, and highlights innovative projects like Modeclix and DefeXtiles as examples of 3D printing's potential for sustainable textile production despite challenges. Despite some drawbacks, 3D printing technology offers numerous advantages, positioning it as a strategic step towards sustainable development in the industry.
