SKINNIG OVER: To puncture the in-between of body and space
University of Borås, Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business.
2024 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master of Fine Arts (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis [Artistic work]
Abstract [en]

Skinning Over is driven by the doubts about the fashion future and emotional detachment from clothing we wear, where the designer sees the main issue of the industry tragedy. The degree work invites the wearer to reflect upon their interrelation with garments and space and hopes this invitation will remind the emotional value of those. The project uses the method of application of the different types of wire as the tool for reconstructing and creating the morphing garment forms. The visual evokes animalistic associations to highlight the spatial context of the work through the use of nature as a symbol of such. The outcome represents the unique approach to the performative aspect of displaying and experiencing fashion through embodied and spatial exploration of the designed pieces. Since collection tries to bring back the emotional and identity value of clothing by putting the wearer in the spectator position to the object, to allow them to rediscover those notions within given distance. The biological inspiration behind the project proposes the artistic translation of genetic engineering to generate fluid and dynamic fashion forms, which can be treated as wearable items or collectional objects.
