The present research aims to explore the creation of cutting principles to deconstruct garment expressions. These principles alter each garment’s form and function and subsequently, question how we dress. This thesis contributes to recent academic and practice-based attempts at redesigning discarded garments or materials, however, it chooses to focus on the opportunity of transforming these garments into multi-wearable pieces, that can have an interchangeable form based on how the wearer decides to enter the garment. With these design objects, I question current fashion design processes, by mixing both digital and physical unconventional pattern-making methods, that help me deal with the finite nature of my resources while still respecting the material’s intrinsic value. In the development chapter, I dive into how I sourced my materials and created a garment library, where I have an initial register of the shape and dimensions of each piece. Followed by how I proceeded to create a streamlined design processed, that allowed me to generate multiple designs digitally, through CLO3D, without generating any physical waste and risking losing a garment unnecessarily. I dive into the thought process behind the creation of each final garment, by explaining what were my set goals for that garment archetype are and how I apply each line composition to achieve a specific expression. At last, I proceed to comment on the final 16 design objects and their ever-expanding layering and wearing possibilities and how this design process opens up immense opportunities to explore numerous garment archetypes, various of which couldn’t be integrated into this research due to time constraints.
