Ethical challenges i an AI-driven audit (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a very hot topic in today´s society. Establishment of AI takes place in several areas around the society today, for example. Healthcare. In this study, it is intended to study which ethical challenges may arise within the audit due to AI being implemented. This study also intends to study how the role of auditor is assumed to change due to the use of AI in auditing. The study has investigated this problem using a qualitative content analysis where empirical evidence has been collected from selected auditors of different experience, where these auditors come from audit firms of different sizes, in terms of international, national and local. Based on this, the results are expected to present generalized answers that can be used regardless of the role of auditor or the size of the accounting firm one belongs to. To see how the role of an auditor is assumed to change in an AI-driven world, it is necessary to study what the role of auditor looks like today, how the role is assumed to change, what positive & negative effects are assumed to occur when AI is used. The study showed that the tasks performed by junior auditors like reviews of various kinds are assumed to be handled by AI-based systems in the future. Among other things, the study also showed that the advisory role towards the customer was not assumed to be handled by AI systems in the future. The ethical challenges are based on previous research, based on these ethical challenges, measurable questions have been produced to be answered by auditors. The study could see that some ethical challenges stand out more than others, responsibility was one of them that was sticking out in front of the others. All auditors believe that the authorized auditor is always responsible for the completed audit, regardless of whether AI is used or not. These results have been produced so that auditors can prepare for how an AI-driven audit can change the auditor´s role and which ethical challenges may arise when the auditor performs the audit using AI.
