How companies communicate their actions in countries after international criticism (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to gain clarity on companies' communication regarding the management of conflict. Our context was the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia and how companies responded to the boycott. To achieve this, we conducted a discourse analysis of three companies' statements regarding their actions taken because of this. The analysis was based on a model we developed ourselves, drawing from existing corporate social responsibility theories. From the results, we discussed whether the companies were in line with a model describing whether a company would act socially responsibly or not, if their communication was effective, and how they communicated their role and responsibilities in the conflict. We could conclude that the model was applicable to all three of the companies, and most of the communication could be classified as successful CSR communication. There was also a recurring trend that companies tend to describe their role in a conflict as responsible legitimization, often mentioning how important it is to follow requirements or laws.
