The purpose of this thesis is to examine the relation between information culture and document management in a Swedish corporate law firm. The thesis is based on a qualitative case-study method, where interviews, observation and documents are used as a method to collect data and to gain a deeper understanding of respondent’s values, norms and behaviours towards information management. The study uses Choo’s typology of information cultures as well Marchand, Kettinger and Rollins theories on information behaviours and values to understand information culture in the law firm. The study identifies two dominant information cultures in the law firm, the relation-based and the rule-following. The study also finds that there is a clear connection between information culture and document management. The relation-based information culture in particular, forms the foundation of information and document management in the law firm.
