The aim of this thesis is to compare two time periods in the history of the university library in Lund and to see what similarities and differences can be found. The two time periods will be 1883-1900 and 1933-1950. The methods used to achieve this will be comparative method with the actor- and structure model and document analysis. The subjects that will be analyzed with these methods will be personnel and the facilities. The two questions I will try to answer in this thesis will be: A) What similarities and differences can be found concerning the personnel and the facilities in the two time periods? B) What is the relationship between the actors and the structure concerning the personnel and the facilities like in the two periods? A brief background of what took place in Sweden, Lund University and the university library of Lund itself during our two periods is provided. Then my main material is presented. It mostly derives from the official yearbooks of Lund University Library for the chosen time periods. Other sources for my main material include a Government document concerning university libraries in Sweden and the memoirs by Elof Tegnér. This material is then analyzed using my chosen methods and then my two questions are answered.
