Abstract [en]

Every day billions of emails are communicated within and between organisations. Email enables instant communication regardless time zones and geographical boundaries. This email communication can generate and contain information that can turn into valuable knowledge for organisations. This knowledge can be a competitive advantage for the organisations, especially as higher demands to perform and produce better results are expected.

This thesis is an exploratory study in relation to the knowledge management strategies that are used by organisations to manage this knowledge, the benefits and potential success stories.

The result, based on qualitative research, will provide insights on the different knowledge management strategies e.g. processes, procedures and methods used by different organisations on different levels of the organisations. Furthermore the results will show that organisations on all levels use some form of strategy, informal or formal, to capture knowledge and there are a number of benefits when applying these strategies. Based on the benefits, we will recommend organisations to follow a formal strategy.
