This paper examine fiction writers information practices, thus how and why they seek information. The aim of this study is to explore how and why fiction writers seek information to their creative process, with the aim to give explanations and understanding of this subject. The used method is qualitative interviews of five fiction writers. The information seeking model of Pamela. J. McKenzie was used to be able to analyze the results. The results showed that fiction writers do seek a lot of information to support their writing and information works as a helpful tool to the creative process. All of the participants explained that the main reasons they seek information is to create credibility and as a source of inspiration. They read books, do interviews, do genealogy and use google to fulfill this need. This study gave contribution to how and why fiction writers seek information in several ways. The previous research and the results in this study are connected and our results can be analyzed from the theory. The most important contribution from this study is that fiction writers do seek information in similar ways and in that case in both intention ways and for several reasons.

Denna studie undersöker skönlitterära författares informationspraktiker, med fokus på hur och varför de söker information. Syftet med studien är att utforska hur och varför skönlitterära författare söker information i sina kreativa processer för att bidra till ökad förståelse för ämnet. Studien bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med fem skönlitterära författare. För att analysera resultaten användes Pamela J. McKenzies modell för informationssökning. Resultaten visar att skönlitterära författare söker en stor mängd information som stöd i sitt skrivande och att information fungerar som en viktig resurs i den kreativa processen. Samtliga deltagare uppgav att de främsta anledningarna till informationssökning är att skapa trovärdighet i berättelserna samt att hitta inspiration. För att tillgodose dessa behov använder de bland annat böcker, intervjuer, släktforskning och sökmotorer som Google. Studien bidrar på flera sätt till förståelsen av hur och varför skönlitterära författare söker information. Tidigare forskning och resultaten i denna studie visar flera beröringspunkter. Ett av studiens viktigaste bidrag är att den visar att skönlitterära författare söker information på liknande sätt och att informationssökningen sker både avsiktligt och oavsiktligt samt fyller flera olika funktioner i det kreativa arbetet.
