This study aims to examine how librarians approach their work in book circles aimed at easily read literature in Swedish. We shaped our study around a theoretical framework from Jofrid Karner Smidt, where the librarians’ role in literature mediation is split into five parts. These five parts consist of literary critic, social anthropologist, educator, marketer and as a regular human. Derived from this theoretical framework we created an interview guide, which was then used in semi-structured interviews with librarians who hold such book circles. The interviews were then transcribed and coded in a theoretical, thematic analysis, from the perspective of Smidt's different roles of literary mediation. Two other over-arching questions were also added to add perspective to earlier studies. These questions regarded the literary selection of easily read books, as well as the different reasonings for reading the participants have. The results show that the librarians’ role in these book circles primarily center around the roles of educator and social anthropologist, although all of the roles are prevalent in the interviewees’ answers. The respondents showcase that the selection of literature at hand is problematic, with many complaints of uninteresting stories, too little new literature, as well as a divide between literature aimed at people learning Swedish or aimed at people with disabilities. The respondents report that they perceive the participants to be there primarily out of an interest in learning Swedish, but that they still want the reading material to be interesting and something they can engage with.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur bibliotekarier beskriver sitt arbete i bokcriklar på lätt svenska med personer med annat modersmål. Vi har utformat studien utifrån ett teoretiskt ramverk av Jofrid Karner Smidt, där bibliotekariens roll i litteraturförmedlingen delas upp i fem delar. Dessa fem delar består av litteraturkritiker, socialantropolog, pedagog, marknadsförare och helt enkelt en vanlig människa. Utifrån detta teoretiska ramverk skapade vi en intervjuguide, som sedan användes i semistrukturerade intervjuer med bibliotekarier som leder sådana bokcirklar. Intervjuerna transkriberades därefter och kodades i en teoretisk, tematisk analys, utifrån Smidts olika roller inom litteraturförmedling. Två ytterligare övergripande frågor lades också till för att ge ett nytt perspektiv på tidigare studier. Dessa frågor gällde urvalet av lättlästa böcker samt deltagarnas olika motiv för att läsa. Resultaten visar att bibliotekariernas roll i dessa bokcirklar främst kretsar kring rollerna som pedagog och socialantropolog, även om alla roller förekommer i de intervjuades svar. De intervjuade framhåller att urvalet av litteratur präglas av svårigheter, med många klagomål på ointressanta berättelser, för lite ny litteratur samt en uppdelning mellan litteratur riktad till personer som lär sig svenska och litteratur riktad till personer med funktionsnedsättning. De intervjuade uppger att de uppfattar att deltagarna främst är där av intresse för att lära sig svenska, men att de ändå vill att läsmaterialet ska vara intressant och något de kan engagera sig i.
