Through different eyes : A study of search function accessibility for people with dyslexia in Swedish audiobook and e-book service (English)
Abstract [en]
Access to information is fundamental to participate in education, culture, and society. For individuals with dyslexia, difficulties related to reading, spelling, and text processing may affect their ability to search for and access information in digital environments. This study uses feature analysis to examine the search functions in three major Swedish audiobook and ebook apps. Affordance theory is used as the theoretical framework to analyse how different search functions helps or limits the user. The findings are interpreted in relation to previous research on dyslexia, accessibility, and digital information seeking. The results show that the apps provide varying levels of support for users with dyslexia. Features such as tolerance for spelling errors and dynamic search may help the user, while requirements for correct spelling, or cognitive overload can limit them.
