This degree work investigates Chilean heritage from the specific lens of attempting to understand diasporic identities with divergent cultural origins. The project presents five looks of one collection, that merge the manipulation of unconventional materials such as real fur and leather, with the folding techniques of accordion plissé and polygon folded structures - to inform silhouettes, as well as color and pattern appliqués for handcrafted developments of interpreted traditional graphical patterns. To conduct this work, personal experiences of being a second generation Chilean immigrant in Sweden have been applied in the research of understanding how to construct character and story with the aid of principles in textile folding techniques. The importance of this work has been to find a personal understanding in a conflicted state of cultural heritage - in the face of contemporary fashion norms.
