Bröstcancer är den vanligaste cancerformen hos kvinnor och uppkommer i bröstets vävnad. De två vanligaste formerna är ductal- och lobulär cancer och för att behandla cancerformerna används bland annat cytostatika och mastektomi. Att belysa kvinnors erfarenheter av att behandlas för bröstcancer är viktigt för att öka kunskapen inom området. Syftet blir därför att belysa vuxna kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med bröstcancer under pågående behandling. För att besvara studiens syfte genomfördes en litteraturöversikt med kvalitativ metod. Datainsamlingen gjordes i databaserna PubMed och CINAHL, vilket resulterade i 11 kvalitativa artiklar som besvarade syftet. Resultatet presenterades i tre huvudteman: När sjukdomen förändrar livets relationer, När kroppen och kvinnligheten förvandlas och När livet måste göras om med sex subteman. I diskussionen belyses betydelsen av närståendes stöd, vikten av att förstå kvinnan som ett subjekt och att finna strategier för att hantera bröstcancerbehandlingen. Sammantaget visar studien att det är av största vikt att sjuksköterskor blir medvetna om de utmaningar som kvinnor ställs inför för att stärka vårdkvaliteten. 

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women and arises in the breast tissue. The two most common types are ductal and lobular cancer, and treatments for these cancers include, among others, chemotherapy and mastectomy. Highlighting women's experiences of being treated for breast cancer is important for increasing knowledge in the area. The aim, therefore, is to illuminate adult women's experiences of living with breast cancer during ongoing treatment. To address the study's aim, a literature review was conducted using a qualitative method. Data collection was carried out in the PubMed and CINAHL databases, resulting in 11 qualitative articles that addressed the aim. The results were presented in three main themes: When the disease changes life's relationships, When the body and femininity are transformed, and When life must be rebuilt, with six sub-themes. The discussion highlights the importance of support from close ones, the significance of understanding the woman as a subject, and finding strategies to cope with breast cancer treatment. Overall, the study shows that it is of utmost importance for nurses to become aware of the challenges women face in order to enhance the quality of care.
