Abstract [en]

The Covid-19 pandemic was a global health crisis. Public health services were greatly strained and healthcare staff went through difficult experiences due to lack of staff, materials, and organizational support. Newly graduated nurses starting work during the pandemic faced chaos and unrest. The time spent as a newly graduated nurse has already been correlated with factors such as stress, uncertainty and difficulty combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of newly graduated nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study was performed as a general literary review, including both qualitative and quantitative published scientific papers. Eight papers from the CINAHL and PubMed databases were included, quality checked and analyzed. Eight different subthemes and three major themes were discerned. The results indicate significant strain as a newly graduated nurse. Their education had flaws and omitted clinica lpractice during the pandemic, affected their perception of clinical competence. Introductions into the profession were lacking to a large degree during the pandemic which led to feelings of loneliness, doubt in their own competencies and resulted in poor patient safety. Newly graduated nurses questioned the quality of care given, since they themselves lacked experience and specific competencies. The findings of this study are largely supported by findings in earlier research which indicate the importance of education and training for successful and safe entry into the nursing profession. Previous research supports the nurses questioning patient safety during this period. To support and guide future colleagues, a comprehensive introduction to the profession is vital. For the public health services to be able to handle future patient needs and at the same time maintaining the work force, changes are needed in the reception of newly graduated nurses into the profession.

Abstract [sv]

Covid-19 pandemin var en global krissituation. Hälso- och sjukvården belastades enormt och sjukvårdspersonalen genomgick svåra upplevelser med personalbrist, avsaknad av material och bristande organisatoriskt stöd. Nyexaminerade sjuksköterskor som kom ut i verksamheten mötte kaos och oroligheter. Första tiden i arbetslivet är sedan innan kopplad till känslor av stress, osäkerheter samt svårigheter att omsätta teori till praktik. Litteraturöversiktens syfte var att utforska nyexaminerade sjuksköterskors upplevelser under Covid-19 pandemin. Studien genomfördes som en allmän litteraturöversikt med så väl kvalitativa som kvantitativa artiklar. Åtta artiklar från databaserna CINAHL och PubMed inkluderades, kvalitetsgranskades och analyserades. Åtta subteman och tre teman framkom. Resultatet påvisade negativa påfrestningar av den första tiden i arbetslivet. Brister i utbildning och utebliven praktik under pandemin påverkade upplevda kliniska färdigheter som yrkesverksam. Introduktion på arbetsplatserna saknades i större utsträckning under pandemin, vilket ledde till känslor av ensamhet, tvivel på den egna kompetensen och bristande patientsäkerhet. Nyexaminerade sjuksköterskor ifrågasatte vårdkvalitén då de saknade erfarenhet och specifika kompetenser. Fynden i studiens resultat styrks till stor del av tidigare forskning som påtalar utbildningens påverkan på förutsättningar för en god och trygg övergång till sjuksköterskeyrket. Tidigare forskning styrker även känslan av bristande patientsäkerhet. För att stödja och forma framtida kollegor är yrkesintroduktion och arbetsplatsens miljö viktig. För att hälso- och sjukvården ska kunna hantera och tillgodose framtida vårdbehov och bibehålla arbetskraft krävs det förändringar i hur mottagandet och integrering av nyexaminerade sjuksköterskor sker.
