Diabetes typ 1 är en komplex sjukdom för den drabbade. För att hantera diabetes typ 1 behöver den som drabbats göra livsstilsförändringar samt öka kunskapen om sjukdomen och dess konsekvenser. Den enskilda individen bär på huvudansvaret i egenvården med stöd från sjuksköterskan och omgivning. Syftet med detta litteraturbaserade examensarbete var att belysa vuxna patienters upplevelser av att leva med diabetes typ 1. Enligt Fribergs metod har tio artiklar som varit av kvalitativ metod och inte äldre än 5 år legat till grund för examensarbetets resultat. Artiklarna söktes fram i databaserna CINAHL och Medline. Fribergs granskningsmall låg till grund för granskningen av artiklarna. En kvalitativ innehållsanalys har tillämpats för analysering av artiklarna som resulterade i tre teman och sex subteman som visade att patienter med diabetes typ 1 lever i ett ständigt lärande där strategier kunde öka självkänslan och bidra till en ökad livskvalité. Patienterna var i en sårbar situation varför stöd från sjuksköterskan och omgivningen spelade stor roll.

Type 1 diabetes is a complex disease for the affected person. In order to manage type 1 diabetes, the affected person needs to make lifestyle changes and increase their knowledge about the disease and its consequences. The individual bears the main responsibility for self-care with support from the nurse and the environment. The purpose of this literature-based thesis was to shed light on adult patients' experiences of living with type 1 diabetes. According to Friberg's method, ten articles that were qualitative and no older than 5 years formed the basis for the results of the thesis. The articles were searched in the CINAHL and Medline databases. Friberg's review template formed the basis for the review of the articles. A qualitative content analysis was applied to analyze the articles, which resulted in three themes and six subthemes that showed that patients with type 1 diabetes live in a constant learning process where strategies could increase self-esteem and contribute to an increased quality of life. The patients were in a vulnerable situation, which is why support from the nurse and the environment played a major role.
