This study aims to investigate the information-seeking behaviors and news consumption habits of four Swedish teenagers, aged 15 to 18. Qualitative methods were used to conduct interviews with the participants and analyze the data, which was organized into themes and then applied to Kuhlthau’s Information Search Process (ISP) model. The findings show that the participants primarily use TikTok and other social media platforms to access news, occasionally relying on family and friends as additional sources. The study also explores the participants’ thoughts and feelings about these various sources, showing that ease of access to information seems to be more important for teenagers than trusting the source or platform that is being used. Furthermore, the analysis shows that the ISP-model may need to be updated in order to continue to be relevant for information-searching in a modern, algorithm- and AI-centered context.
