The Impact of Digitalization on Leadership : A Qualitative Study on Challenges, Opportunities, and Strategies (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge on how digitalization impacts leadership and to identify the challenges that arise and how managers who exercise leadership manage them. There is a lack of research investigating this phenomenon and its impact on managers. This study employs a qualitative research method, and the scope is limited to conducting interviews with managers in Sweden who have over three years of experience. The respondents, who make up the empirical material, work for both large and small organizations. The empirical material consists of 13 semi-structured interviews, and the study results in four themes. These themes are used to explore the purpose of the study and to answer research questions. The four identified themes are: motivation, decision-making, the relationship with employees, and adaptability. The results of the study may provide managers with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of digitalization, its impact on their leadership, and how managers in other industries are dealing with this development. Future research in the field could include managers from different industries, theoretical perspectives, or a focus on employees in order to broaden their overall understanding. The study is written in Swedish.
