Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates lines in relation to the body within the field of garment construction in the context of womenswear, ready-to-wear. The design program studies the possibilities of developing an alternative garment construction based on female body lines. The new construction method gives an example of how to create new garments, providing an alternative method of designing wear. In this research, wear is defined as garments form which is developed out of a symbiotic relationship between cloth and body. The aim of this work is to bring the body closer to the making and result of new garments by the use of lines and tracing as a tool for construction and expression. The use of lines has guided the development of the construction as well as design decisions regarding material, textures, and colour. The result of this work consists of a collection based on a proposition of a construction method as well as a method of collection expression and composition providing another perspective upon the making of female wear. Female/Body/Lines implies a closer relation and smaller gap between the female body and garment in the making, result, and expression. The work exemplifies a philosophy and method of approaching the making of new wear for a sustainable future of fashion.
