Flera institutioner i samhället arbetar på olika sätt med barns och ungas läsning. Dels handlar det om att barn och unga behöver utveckla läsförmågan för att kunna delta i utbildning, arbete och samhällsliv, dels eftersträvas ofta att utveckla läsintressen och läsvanor. På politisk nivå sätts läsandet i samband med såväl individuella som samhälleliga värden och ses ofta som en tillgång för demokratin (se t.ex. Litteraturutredningen 2012a, och Proposition 2013/14:3). I artikeln tas upp en omfattande forskning om läsning som kan vara av intresse för detta arbete.

Artikeln tar upp forskning om hur digitala redskap på olika sätt kan användas för att stimulera och utveckla elevers läsintresse. Utifrån en syn på läsning och skrivande som en högst social praktik lyfter vi fram potentialen i digitala verktyg för att bygga gemensamma textvärldar och bidra till en levande läskultur i skolan. Utifrån  begreppet läsargemenskap diskuteras hur man kan arbeta med texter genom skrivande, samtal, lek, bildskapande och dramatiseringar.

The focus of the thesis is on how school leavers deal with the flood of information, advice and expectations that are directed towards them at a structurally induced turning point in their lives. With a departure point in Giddens’ claim that people select and interpret information on their own terms as a means of preserving coherent narratives of self-identity, stories of information seeking were examined as a means of gaining insight into how young people living in late modernity face its tensions and dilemmas in the ways in which they seek and use information. The theoretical framework of the study draws on Schutz’ ideas concerning the lifeworld and the social distribution of knowledge, on Bourdieu’s concept of habitus as well as on Giddens’ conceptualisation of the forming of self-identity in late modernity. The study is based on qualitative research interviews with twenty one school leavers during their last year at school and on a minor discourse oriented study of a selection of the information produced by major actors in the careers guidance system. Empirically, accounts of young people’s experiences of their information related activities in relation to study and occupational choice were examined using phenomenological narrative analysis. These accounts were set in relation to discourses in Swedish society concerning work and education. Four approaches to information seeking emerged from participants’ accounts: 1) They use information seeking as a tool in making connections between educational interests and the future labour market 2) They use information seeking both as a tool in finding pathways to occupations and as a means of orienting within an occupational domain 3) Study and career information seeking is put ‘on hold’, and information seeking is associated with planning extended transitions, and 4) Study and career information seeking is avoided as potentially threatening or as meaningless. By considering how approaches are related to the ‘new career’ discourse that comes to expression in study and career related information the study gives insights into the meaning of information for, and of its accessibility to, young people. A greater focus on the development of an information literacy is suggested as a means of better supporting young people in the process of making study and career decisions.

Inledning

Denna text handlar om hur vi genom att vara läsande förebilder både kan förmedla vårt läsintresse till eleverna och stimulera deras eget intresse för att läsa. En förutsättning för att en läsupplevelse ska vara personligt givande är att de texter som ska läsas är intressanta för individen. Att dessa intressanta texter hittar till läsaren är ofta tack vare en kunnig och inspirerande förmedlare, till exempel en lärare, skolbibliotekarie, fritidspedagog, förälder, annan vuxen eller en kamrat. Varje gång en text dras in i ett didaktiskt, pedagogiskt eller socialt sammanhang och unga uppmuntras till att läsa eller lyssna till den påverkas de av själva förmedlingen, det vill säga vem som förmedlar texten och hur förmedlingen går till. De vuxnas roll och insats som förmedlare av berättelser och andra typer av texter bör lyftas fram och diskuteras så att alla som arbetar med barn och unga i skolan kan få tillfälle att vända blicken inåt och överväga: ”vad vill jag, vad kan jag och vad gör jag som litteraturförmedlare i olika sammanhang?” Det finns forskning som visar att barn och ungas intresse för läsning påverkas starkt av läsande förebilder, framförallt i hemmet och skolan men också av kamrater och andra barn (t.ex. National Literacy Trust, 2011). Denna forskning tyder på att skolor där de vuxna visar sig som läsande människor och där läsande barn synliggörs och uppmuntras har bättre förutsättningar att inspirera alla elever som läsare än skolor där läsningen som aktivitet är mer eller mindre osynlig. Utgångspunkten i denna modul att stimulera elevernas läsintresse ses här som en rejäl möjlighet att samverka över yrkesgränserna och med vårdnadshavare där olika kompetenser kan komplettera varandra i strävan efter ett gemensamt mål, dvs. att ge förutsättningar för att eleverna ska utvecklas som läsare

In this paper the institutional origins of information designed for school leavers have been examined using a discourse analytical approach. Texts from three of the major actors in the careers guidance system constitute the empirical basis of the study. It was found that information and the individual are constituted in different ways in each of the texts.

Differentways of viewing the individual and information are related to different views on the nature ofsociety, the labour market and the individual’s position within it, and on the value ofeducation. Such views mediate to the reader which actions may be appropriate or inappropriate to take. The implications of the study are that young people need to develop skills in the critical analysis of informational texts as a tool in discerning their own best interests in relation to the range of interests promoted by career guidance literature.

Furthermore, it is suggested that technical solutions need to be developed that increase the transparency of literature designed for school leavers.

With a departure point in the Schutzian concept of “The stranger”, the aim of the article is to examine the usefulness of the concept as a tool for understanding information seeking practices from an outsider perspective in the context of leaving school and planning to apply to a university programme in Sweden. The article draws on the phenomenological sociology of Schutz together with narrative theory. In this study stories of information seeking gathered in interviews are related to a discourse of nationality and analysed using the concept of cognitive authority together with the concept of the stranger. The findings reveal the effort required for young people with roots in other countries or from non-academic homes to connect and interact with potentially valuable sources of information and that the concept of the stranger can be employed to render visible implicit dimensions of information seeking. Research limitations/implications - the article is based on an in-depth study of the information seeking activities of one young person in a specific national, political and cultural context. It is particular and personal but at the same time can be related to wider issues in contemporary society through narrative analysis. The stories of information seeking taken up exemplify the social nature of barriers of access to information and may be of help in the planning of research projects on a larger scale.In a time when a discourse of nationality is pervasive and integration policies are under question in Europe this study provides insight into the individual experience from the perspective of library and information science

Models relating to the participation of children are often explicitly aimed at facilitating or evaluating participation in decision-making processes on local levels. However, these models often build on hierarchically ordered ‘ladders’ of children’s involvement starting with passive involvement and increasing gradually to highly active engagement. Such models become problematic when designing or evaluating participative activities for young children. On the basis of two ethnographic studies conducted in children’s libraries, we propose an alternative model based on a view of participation as processual rather than definitive. Theoretically, the paper draws mainly on human rights theory as well as on theories and concepts derived from childhood studies such as participation and citizenship. The new model of participation demonstrates how the idea of participation can be operationalized at practical levels to include the very youngest children.

Introduction. This paper investigates participatory practices in library activities for young children and their care-givers in a specific cultural context. Method. Using an ethnographic approach data were collected through participant observations of songtimes for babies and toddlers, and interviews and group interviews with staff and care-givers. Analysis. With a theoretical departure point in communities of practice the data were analysed by searching for themes and connections to cultural contexts. Trustworthiness was ensured through triangulation: observations of children’s activities were related to the interpretations of care-givers’ through interviews; member checking through feedback from adult participants; and, ongoing discussions of interpretations between the researchers. Results. The study's findings show how library activities for children can serve as spaces where both a community of practice focused on “mothering” can develop as well as special child communities of practice. Participation is identified as work involving children, adults and professionals in interaction with place and promoted by a view of place as dynamic rather than static. Conclusions. We conclude that participatory practices in library activities for young children are situated and co-evolve through intergenerational dialogue; they are also partial and ongoing. By promoting intercultural dialogue, library activities for young children may become more socially inclusive.

Runtom i Sverige pågår regelbundet aktiviteter där barn och föräldrar bjuds in för att ta del av berättelser, sång, musik, dans, rim och ramsor och annat som omfattas av begreppet ”kultur”. Ett återkommande utgångspunkt i verksamheterna är att besökarna ska vara ”delaktiga”. Men vad är denna delaktighet egentligen och hur uppnår vi den? Boken är resultatet av ett forskningsprojekt, som började med följeforskning av projektet Barnens kulturrum i Borås, och som sedan fortsatte till andra platser i och utanför staden där barn, rum, kultur och delaktighet på olika sätt aktualiserades. Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur ett kulturrum för barn, byggt på barns och föräldrars delaktighet, kan förverkligas. Frågor som diskuteras är t.ex.: Hur kan delaktighet förstås från olika perspektiv och vilka praktiska konsekvenser får olika synsätt på delaktighet.

Rikliga empiriska exempel från bibliotek, förskolor och museer illustrerar mångfalden av kulturaktiviteter. Barns lek i institutionsmiljö studeras också och vi ser hur leken kan skapa ”mellanrum” och ”flyktlinjer” för barnen, de vuxna, rummet och tingen. Delaktighetsbegreppet problematiseras genomgående i relation till nationell och internationell forskning och en modell för delaktighet presenteras. Modellen beskriver hur ett kulturrum för barn kan verka för inkludering, ge inspiration och involvera och utmana besökarna. I förlängningen anas ett kulturrum för barn som fungerar som ett forum för aktivt medborgarskap i samhället.

Barn och unga framhålls i handlingsprogram och styrdokument ofta som prioriterade grupper, där inte minst rättigheterna för barn med funktionshinder och med annan bakgrund än den svenska framhålls. Barnbibliotek, museer och kulturskolor finns i alla kommuner och erbjuder verksamheter och upplevelser för barn. Men det sker få utvärderingar och uppföljningar av dessa verksamheter och projekt. Det saknas i stor utsträckning forskning om barn och unga som kulturkonsumenter och kulturskapare, något som uppmärksammats av såväl forskare och praktiker som politiker på regional och kommunal nivå (Rydsjö & Elf 2007). I regionala och kommunala handlingsprogram framhålls vikten av barns och ungas tillgång till kulturupplevelser och att unga ska ha verklig möjlighet till inflytande och delaktighet. (VGR 2008; 2009; Borås Stad 2004). Barns delaktighet utgör ett nytt och snabbt växande forskningsområde (Christensen & James 2000; Mayall 2002; Brembeck et al., 2010), men ännu saknas studier om barns och ungas delaktighet i kulturverksamheter (Maceviciute et al., 2009).

I den här modulen diskuteras, utifrån läsforskning och styrdokument, skolans potential och ansvar för att utveckla elevers läsande. I denna första artikel presenteras och förklaras en rad begrepp kopplade till elevers läsutveckling. Betydelsen av samverkan mellan lärare och skolbibliotekarier för att stödja elevernas läsutveckling lyfts. Avslutningsvis introduceras hur en Läsvanestudie kan vara ett verktyg för att kartlägga hur elever ser på och använder sig av läsning.

This paper uses the concept of participation as an analytical framework for analysing the ways that preschool children make use of the space, artefacts and people that cultural activities afford them and the subjectivities that are thus produced. Using ethnographic methods children’s and their caregivers’ perspectives on three cultural activities are sought and explored. In the analysis participation emerges as a situated mode of action exercised in events by the children. The results are related to research on childhood, participation and empowerment.

Denna artikel inleds med att en didaktik för fri läsning introduceras. Denna didaktik är tänkt att på ett strukturerat sätt ge eleverna möjligheter att upptäcka läsningens glädje och därmed bidra till en framgångsrik och stimulerande läsundervisning. Artikeln avslutas med en sammanfattning av modulen i sin helhet, där några utmaningar och dilemman som ni kan ha stött på i ert löpande arbete lyfts. Syftet är att uppmuntra till reflektion kring det fortsatta arbetet att stimulera elevers läsengagemang.

Of particular interest is how refugees access, use and share information to support information needs which emerge during the resettlement process.

Method. Face-to-face interviews were conducted in the language selected by the participant. Photo-voice technique was also employed and culminated in a focus group in which participants discussed the photos. The first phase of the qualitative analysis is reported in this paper.

Analysis. Data from interviews, focus groups and images captured by photo-voice technique were coded thematically, focusing on the similarities and differences in perspective.

Results.In the resettlement process refugees strive to regain a sense of place. Information is a critical resource for resettlement, but access to information and trust in that information pose challenges in moving from the liminal zone of marginality towards social integration. The digital environment threads through refugees’ information experiences and represents a significant social ground.

Conclusions. Findings from the first phase of this study have provided us with new concepts and ways of describing the impacts of resettlement from an information perspective. It also affords an opportunity to consider how information resilience is shaped and emerges.

Enbart under 2015 sökte över 160 000 människor asyl i Sverige. Folkbiblioteken ställde snabbt om och anpassade sitt arbete för att svara upp mot nya och utökade behov. Hur såg förutsättningarna för det här arbetet ut ute på biblioteken? Hur kom arbetet i praktiken att gestalta sig? Vilka förändringar, utmaningar och svårigheter upplevde bibliotekspersonalen? I den här rapporten diskuteras dessa frågor närmare, utifrån enkäter och fokusgruppsintervjuer med biblioteksmedarbetare och chefer i ett antal kommuner i Dalarnas och Uppsala län. Rapportens två delar (slutrapport och delrapport) är skrivna av Frances Hultgren och Ola Pilerot, båda verksamma vid sektionen för biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap vid Högskolan i Borås. För uppdrag och finansiering står Länsbibliotek Dalarna och Länsbibliotek Uppsala.

Vid Bibliotekshögskolan i Borås bedrivs sedan en tid tillbaka forskning som syftar till att undersöka flyktingars och nyanländas erfarenheter och användning av information under det skede då de försöker göra sig hemmastadda i Sverige. Forskargruppen har bland annat tagit sig an uppgiften att identifiera de informationsfrågor som är angelägna för nyanlända när de påbörjar inträdesprocessen till det svenska samhället. En av de slutsatser som i en tidigare studie dragits av forskargruppen är att ”[i]ntegration sker på lokal nivå, dvs. inom grannskapet, i lokala gemenskaper och på stadsnivå (snarare än på den abstrakta nivå som berör svenska värderingar och svensk kultur). Detta tyder på att biblioteken har en viktig roll att spela i [de nyanländas] ’platsskapande’ aktiviteter, dvs. processen att på en kollaborativ nivå inom t.ex. en stadsdel (eller socialt nätverk) göra en plats inkluderande och till sin egen” (Lloyd m.fl. 2016, s. 4). Det är bland annat mot bakgrund av denna iakttagelse, som forskargruppens intresse nu riktar sig mot biblioteken och dess personal. I fokus för det projekt som denna rapport är en del av står bibliotekens arbete med och för nyanlända.

Den övergripande rubriken på projektet är ”Bibliotekens arbete med och för nyanlända: teori-,ideologi- och intressedrivna utgångspunkter”. Projektet finansieras av länsbiblioteken i Uppsala ochDalarna och sträcker sig över en sexmånadersperiod, från den 1 oktober 2016 till den 31 mars 2017.

Antologin är tänkt att ge barnbibliotekarierna verktyg för verksamhetsutveckling genom att erbjuda teorier, fakta och dokumenterade erfarenheter. Författarna är verksamma inom forskningsfält som på olika sätt har betydelse för barnbiblioteken och syftet är att deras bedrag ska bredda och fördjupa kunskapsutvecklingen.

En sammanfattande analys av antologin "Barnet, platsen tiden: teorier och forskning i barnbibliotekets omvärld". Redaktörerna analyserar bidrag i antologin från forskningsfält som på olika sätt har betydelse för barnbibliotket.
