    Abstract [en]

    The medical field has been a part of the smart textile area for quite some time. With time come technological advancement and the two fields converge on more and more areas. One such area is that of using textile electrodes, textrodes, for measuring bioelectrical activity, such as heart rate for ECG analysis. There are many components that make for a successful textile electrode and though many studies have been made in the subject there are several aspects that still are difficult. By using textile electrodes the problem with skin irritation from electrolyte gels, commonly used for conventional electrodes, is avoided, however dry textrodes create disturbances in the output signal (heart rate) while subjected to movement and internal dimensional changes. The addition of moisture to a textrode has shown to decrease these intermittent disturbances but the knowledge about fundamental textile structural influence in the matter has not been fully investigated. This study investigates a flat, a 2-thread fleece and an open structure, and their relation to moisture both as textile structures and as textrodes. This way the possibilities of utilising moisture to increase performance in a textrode purpose can be examined and to what extent the textile structure plays a part in that exploitation. The material composition of textile structures also affects their properties The introduction of assistive materials, polyester and viscose, into the Shieldex (conductive yarn) structures is done to test core moisture management properties such as surface tension, absorption and moisture content, and correlate them to electrical properties necessary for textrode function. In the end the gap between textile structure and end product in form of a textrode is closed as the impedance and microclimate of the textrodes are studied. This is mainly to tie together the fundamental textile structures with a complex textile construction. In conclusion the complexity is also confirmed as structural, materialistic and external influences has an impact on the results. The influence of moisture on lowered resistance and impedance in the structures is confirmed but the impact of textile structure can also be seen. The 2-thread fleece and open structures often has a more positive impact on results and therefore has the possibility of enhancing performance of a textrode for bioelectrical signal monitoring. With these results a more effective way of producing long-lasting, patient-friendly, textrodes can be derived and in the future lead to better care in the medical areas.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this thesis can be split up into three parts. First, to examine if public libraries in Sweden provide a selection of comic books and graphic novels suitable for youths. Second, to seek out how many of those libraries use comic books and graphic novels in their literature promotion with youths. Third, to investigate if there are any connections and similarities between the libraries that do. Also, a hypothesis proclaiming that most libraries do have comic book departments designed for youths and that libraries in big cities use comic books in literature promotion more often than libraries in small cities, is tested in the study.

    The results are based on a survey that was distributed to 290 libraries, out of which 192 responded. The results indicate that most libraries have youth departments and departments for comic books but that a small majority, mostly in larger cities, have a comic book department designed to be interesting for youths. A majority of the libraries surveyed have used comic books in some sort of literature promoting activity but there is a clear distinction between libraries in larger cities and libraries in smaller cities where the big city libraries were more likely to have used comic books in their literature promotion. Most of the connections and similarities between libraries working with comic books are connected to the population of the city in which the library is located and with the library's work for youths in general.

    Abstract [en]

    In this project a collection of clothes, based on the raggar culture has been developed. e work is intended to be a modernization of the clothing, exploring the subculture and developing it, however without loosing its attitude. In uences from other related subcultures have also taken part in the work.

    The aim is to investigate the technique of spray painting directly on garments, as a method for developing prints, taking visual inspiration from the culture of raggare. Sources for inspiration to the painting have been gra ti, airbrush and action painters. In order to keep the attitude of the raggar culture, the collection is largely based on vintage clothing, linked to the culture in question. e result in this project is a collection containing eight out ts, dedicated mainly to raggare but also to others.

Greda är resultatet av ett samarbete mellan Kvinnohistoriska samlingarna vid Göteborgs universitet och Nationella sekretariatet för genusforskning. Jag kommer att redogöra för bakgrunden till basen, för de olika stegen i dess tillkomst, redaktörernas och forskarnas uppgifter och hur basen fungerar för användarna.

    Abstract [sv]

    Inledning: Det är många barn idag som behöver förskoleplatser och antalet barn i barngrupperna ökar. Skolverket har riktmärken för att kunna skapa lagom stora barngrupper, det är inget krav utan enbart rekommendationer. Denna studie undersöker pedagogernas syn på stora barngrupper och hur stora barngrupper påverkar förskolan.

    Syfte: Syftet är att synliggöra pedagogernas uppfattningar om stora barngrupper och hur det påverkar förskolans pedagogiska verksamhet.

    Metod: En kvantitativ enkätmetod användes. Metoden möjliggör att få information från fler förskolor och på en större geografisk spridning i Sverige.

    Resultat: Resultatet visar att många av pedagogerna i förskolorna har en negativ inställning till stora barngrupper. Resultatet visar även att miljön och gruppsammansättningen påverkar hur barngruppens storlek uppfattas av pedagogerna, samt hur pedagogerna uppfattar barnens delaktighet i verksamheten.

    Enhancing Immersion with Contextualized Scenarios: Role-Playing in Prehospital Care Training2015In: 2015 7th International Conference on Games and Virtual Worlds for Serious Applications (VS-Games), Skövde, 2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    This paper reports on a field experiment with 12 paramedic teams (n=24) exploring how they perceive a novel training approach. The feeling of being engaged in training (i.e. being immersed) is often held forward as a major benefit of roleplaying exercises. Engagement is expected to raise the quality of training as well as improving learning and retention. However, much simulation-based training in prehospital care is decontextualized, meaning that medical care is trained without taking other characteristics of prehospital care into account. In this paper we investigate how a richer setting (contextualization), which includes more of the complicating aspects of prehospital care, affects the perceived immersion of the participants. The results show that contextualization has a significant positive impact on perceived immersion. These results are important for further studies on how to organize and design role-playing exercises.

    The S.A.R.E.K Simulation Environment: Technical description of a flexible training environment for prehospital care.2017Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    This report contains a technical description of the result of the S.A.R.E.K (Simulation – Ambulance – Research – Education - Kinship) collaboration project and the Sim2020 project. The projects are collaborations between researchers in healthcare and IT, and prehospital care practitioners, with the aim to design, develop and test a contextualized simulation environment for prehospital care. We built a simulation environment representing the full depth and width of a prehospital care process. Breadth refers to including all phases of a prehospital mission, from dispatch to handover; while depth refers to detailed representations and recreation of artefacts, information and context for each of these phases. This report outlines the details of the overall design, all equipment and practical solutions used to create this. Apart from the installation which is described in this report we have also developed methods and carried out a variety of tests and experiments which are reported elsewhere. The focus of this report is the system and its components.

    Abstract [en]

    Background The pre-hospital process is a complex one involving aspects such as medical skills as well as care taking, team performance, inter-organizational cooperation and communication. This calls for novel training methods and technology support. Our review of literature (covering the areas of pre-hospital care, training simulator technologies and methods and process modelling) indicates that the different aspects are typically trained in isolation, e.g. medical skills using patient simulators.Objective The pre-hospital training center project addresses the overall complexity of the pre-hospital process by taking all of the aspects into account when designing scenarios and technology support for training the complete prehospital process (covering alarm, on-scene activities, transportation and hand-over). This is indeed a challenging task as we need to develop both training methods and technology support for a very complex training situation.Methods The project will develop a prototype scenario along with technology support to enact it. The training scenario will involve many of the aspects listed above and will be tested in a field experiment with ambulance personnel. Results The expected outcome of the project is a platform for establishing a pre-hospital simulation and training center. The initial technologies, research results and experiences will be used to form a consortium for further work and development. Conclusions We have identified a need for a pre-hospital training center with the unique and ambitious idea of covering the entire pre-hospital process as well as its many interacting aspects. To the best of our knowledge this approach is not at all common and we expect the complexity to be so high that it is a challenging enough research area that can only be addressed if we have a well-designed simulation and training center in place with all the different areas of knowledge represented, i.e. pre-hospital medicine as well as simulation and visualization technology.

    Breaking Out of the Bubble Putting Simulation Into Context to Increase Immersion and Performance2018In: Simulation & Gaming, article id 1046878118772612Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Objective: Simulation based training with full-size mannequins is a prominent means of training within the healthcare sector. Prehospital missions include all parts of the healthcare process which take place before a patient is handed over to the receiving hospital. This implies that the context for prehospital care is varied and potentially challenging or dangerous in several ways. In this article we present a study which explores immersion and performance by emergency medical services (EMS) professionals in in a training situation which takes the specifics of prehospital interventions into account.

    Methods: The study was carried out as a field experiment at an ambulance unit. The experiment was designed to compare the differences between two types of medical scenarios: basic and contextualized. We analyzed the levels of immersion throughout the scenarios and then team performance was evaluated by independent experts. Both analyses were made by observing video recordings from multiple camera angles with a custom made analysis tool.

    Results: Our results show that the contextualization of a medical scenario increases both immersion as measured by the Immersion Score Rating Instrument (ISRI) and team performance as measured by the Global Rating Scale (GRS). The overall ISRI score was higher in the contextualized condition as compared to the basic condition, with an average team wise difference of 2.94 (sd = 1.45). This difference is significant using a paired, two-tailed t-test (p<.001). The GRS score was higher for overall clinical performance in the contextualized scenario with an average team wise difference of 0.83 (sd = 0.83, p=.005).Conclusions. Full-size mannequin simulation based training for EMS professionals may be enhanced by contextualizing the medical scenarios. The main benefits are that the contextualized scenarios better take prehospital medical challenges into account and allow participants to perform better.

    This paper addresses how artificial intelligence can be used as an efficiency tool in the public administrations and how to implement new technology in the organization, which obstacles can be encountered and how to work with the implementation process. In order to be able to understand the results of our research we begin by explaining how AI got its beginning, what it was meant for and how it has evolved. To then implement this technology in various public administrations that continuously develop organizationally all the time to reflect society is interesting to examine, because now it is not just about new technology anymore but one has to adapt to organizational and implementation theory. So we continue to explain what a public sector is and how it works with the main focus on; Public administration, policy, projects, implementation theory and teamwork. The purpose of these various chapters is to give an understanding that will lead to the purpose of our research on how the Swedish Insurance Agency Försäkringskassan, a governmental Swedish authority has worked to implement AI in its organization and how the new technology can now be used as an efficiency tool.

    Psykiatriambulansen tillkallas när en person har psykiskt illabefinnande eller vid hot om suicid. Sjuksköterskorna som arbetar i psykiatriambulansen är alltid två stycken, en psykiatrisköterska och en ambulanssjuksköterska alternativt en grundutbildad sjuksköterska. Innan resursen inrättades fick ambulansverksamheten eller polisen ta hand om dessa larm. Vid psykisk ohälsa behövs kunskaper och erfarenhet om akut omhändertagande av personer med psykisk ohälsa. Mötet med patienterna skall utmynna i ett vårdande och ge patienterna en bättre hälsa. Sjuksköterskorna behöver förstå patientens situation och inse innebörden av ett livsvärldsperspektiv.  Tidigare forskning om ambulanssjukvård visar att bemötandet vid akut sjukdom är betydande för patienterna. Det har även visat sig att många av de patienter som träffade psykiatriambulansen kunde få hjälp på plats och inte behövde åka vidare till sjukhus vilket bidragit till en hållbar utveckling inom hälso- och sjukvård.

    Syftet med studien var att undersöka specialistsjuksköterskors och sjuksköterskor upplevelser av att vara först på plats – vid akutlarm i psykiatriambulansen.  Kvalitativ metod med induktiv ansats har använts då sjuksköterskors upplevelser efterfrågades. Sju sjuksköterskor inom psykiatriambulansen intervjuades. Resultatet presenteras i fyra huvudkategorier och tolv underkategorier Huvudkategorierna är sjuksköterskans yrkesroll, sjuksköterskans förberedelse, det akuta mötet och anhörigstöd. Resultatet visade att sjuksköterskorna i psykiatriambulansen upplevde egna känslor i det akuta mötet men som de lade åt sidan för stunden för att behålla sitt lugn. Vidare visade det sig att sjuksköterskorna i psykiatriambulansen alltid fokuserade på patientens behov och försökte bibehålla sin professionalitet oavsett vad som hände runtomkring. Resultatet visade också att de alltid hade ett säkerhetsmedvetande med sig i mötet med patienter, samt att de ansåg att möta barn och ungdomar med psykisk ohälsa var svårt. Sjuksköterskorna upplevde att de fick fysiologiska reaktioner när de åkte på vissa typer av larm och att de ibland kunde uppleva känslor av maktlöshet i mötet med anhöriga.

    Många av de patienter som vårdas på somatiska avdelningar lider också av samtidig psykisk ohälsa. Det innebär att det finns behov av kunskap att bemöta dessa patienter hos sjuksköterskor på somatiska avdelningar. Behovet av en utökad kompetens hos sjuksköterskor i den somatiska sjukvården ökar i takt med den ökade psykiska ohälsan i världen. Syftet med denna litteraturöversikt är att undersöka hur sjuksköterskor upplever att möta patienter med psykisk ohälsa inom somatisk sjukvård.

    Med hjälp av en litteraturöversikt har vi studerat 8 artiklar, och utifrån dem sammanställt ett resultat. I resultatet presenteras 3 kategorier: attityder, kompetens och faktorer i organisationen med tillhörande 7 underkategorier. Det framgår att sjuksköterskor på somatiska avdelningar har stora kunskapsbrister när det kommer till psykisk ohälsa. Vidare har det lett till rädsla för att göra fel och en känsla av att inte vara tillräcklig. Sjukvården är också påverkad negativt av samhällets stigmatisering mot personer med psykisk ohälsa. Men med hjälp av bland annat en bredare grundutbildning, med inkluderad utbildning i att bemöta patienter med samtidig somatisk sjukdom och psykisk ohälsa, kan både sjuksköterskan och patient få en positiv syn på mötet.

    Detta examensarbete är baserat på forskning kring bildernas betydelse i matematikböcker.  De analyser som genomförts visar bildernas funktion. De läromedel som analyserats är Eldorado, Favorit matematik, Koll på matematik och Prima Formula. Vi har valt att fokusera på böckernas geometriavsnitt eftersom bilder förkommer ofta inom detta arbetsområde.

    Syfte: Syftet med studien är att analysera och jämföra bilder som finns i populära matematikböcker. Det arbetsområde som analyseras i samtliga läroböcker är geometri.

    Metod: Den analysmodell som används vid bildanalyserna hämtar inspiration från Pettersson (2008). Vid den första analysen fördelades bilderna efter vilken funktion de har i matematikböckerna. Den andra analysen syftar att visa antal uppgifter som har eller inte har någon bildkoppling. Genom bildanalyserna framkommer även bilder som fyller sin funktion att kommunicera sitt innehåll positivt eller negativt.

    Resultat: Resultatet av bildanalyserna visar att den funktion som förekommer mest bland bilderna i läroböckerna är den kompletterande. Det finns bilder inom samtliga funktionskategorier som kan påverka elevernas uppfattning av uppgifterna, både positivt och negativt. En stor del av uppgifterna som finns i matematikböckernas geometriavsnitt är kopplade till bilder.

    Denna kunskapsöversikt undersöker det forskningsfält som rör musikintegrerad matematikundervisning. Syftet med översikten är att få en inblick i hur musiken påverkar elevernas matematikprestationer samt hur forskningen ser ut inom denna kombination. Därför är vår frågeställning: Vad kännetecknar forskningen om integrationen mellan matematik och musik? För att besvara denna fråga har vi utfört litteratursökningar för att finna studier och artiklar som tillsammans bildar en överblick. Med hjälp av den metod som Claes Nilholm beskriver i SMART (2016) har vi skapat en struktur för hur vi arbetat. Ur det material som vi fann under sökningarna har vi funnit mönster som talar för musikens positiva inverkan på matematikundervisning.

Although there is much information available about the phenomenon, there are many aspects that have not yet been illuminated. The information available on the subject is also not of scientific sort. The purpose of the study is to analyze and explain how influencer marketing can affect the growth of a company. In addition, influencers affect the brand building. Following thesis will consist of a case study in collaboration with the clothing company NA- KD. The rapid growth of NA-KD will be explained by appropriate theoretical evidence, and not least by the co-founder himself. The modern way of marketing through social media with influencers will be investigated in light of various aspects. How cooperation with one or more influencers looks will be investigated in conjunction with how the strategy has helped NA-KD grow in a short period of time. Brand development and theories about a company's growth are two other important areas that will be studied in order for the thesis to have a relevant and well-reasoned conclusion. All theories presented will be linked to NA-KD’s own growth. The method chosen for the following thesis is of the qualitative type. The empirical collection will consist of an interview with a co-founder of the chosen company, NA-KD. Furthermore, the company's website and Instagram accounts will be observed, as well as four selected influencer's accounts that will also be observed. As well as secondary data such as the NA-KD annual report and a review of a few competitors will be presented. After analysis of the empiric data, clear conclusions emerged. Linkages between influencer marketing and growth became a clear fact. Likewise, cooperation between the companies and individuals was clarified. It was also clear that NA-KD was founded when influencers had already grown and had a major impact. Following thesis will be in Swedish.

    The term cookie regarding IT is still a relatively new term. It is rarely discussed among internet users. The name cookie is fairly known but the concept not as much. Cookies are well established by different companies and organizations that in some way offer online services. Today visitors of the internet meet cookies almost every time they go online. For the users who choose not to accept cookies the online experience becomes highly limited. Cookies store information of the visitors in order to improve their experience but also to help the organization.

    The majority of webpages online that uses electronic commerce or in any way can benefit from storing the customers information uses cookies. Cookies can be sold or exchanged between organizations to increase their profit and range. In 2011 a provision regarding all organizations using cookies were implemented. Every internet user visiting these pages had to be notified about their use of cookies immediately. New laws are established in order to control or regulate the exertion of other people’s personal information at the same pace as cookies are further developed. The next law to be established is GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation, which will be focused on in this thesis.

    The purpose of this study is to explore the phenomenon of cookie-use and how it affects internet users and organizations in synergy with the GDPR-law. To achieve the desired result a mixed method has been applied involving both interviews and a survey. The interviews consisted of pre-determined questions and dynamic follow-up questions. Three different organizations participated in the interviews, an university, an organization using e-business and a media agency. The survey consisted of a few mandatory closed questions. The distribution of the survey led to right above 130 respondents.

    The gained results from the use of a quantitative methods hinted that barely half of the respondents knew what a cookie actually was. Several of the participants were curious about learning more about the phenomenon while a lower percentage did not consider it important. Knowledge or ignorance regarding cookies turned out to have a great impact on the respondent’s comfortableness and behavior online. The results from the qualitative method showed that the organizations working with cookies will be affected by GDPR.

    Following thesis will contribute to the field of informatics by consequently process the empiric data collected with support from theoretic competences. It will contribute as a source of information regarding cookies within information technology.

    Integration, inclusion, and equity constitute fundamental dimensions of democracy in post-World War II societies and their institutions. The study presented here reports upon the ways in which individuals and institutions both use and account for the roles that technologies, including ICT, play in disabling and enabling access for learning in higher education for all. Technological innovations during the 20th and 21st centuries, including ICT, have been heralded as holding significant promise for revolutionizing issues of access in societal institutions like schools, healthcare services, etc. (at least in the global North). Taking a socially oriented perspective, the study presented in this paper focuses on an ethnographically framed analysis of two datasets that critically explores the role that technologies, including ICT, play in higher education for individuals who are “differently abled” and who constitute a variation on a continuum of capabilities. Functionality as a dimension of everyday life in higher education in the 21st century is explored through the analysis of (i) case studies of two “differently abled” students in Sweden and (ii) current support services at universities in Sweden. The findings make visible the work that institutions and their members do through analyses of the organization of time and space and the use of technologies in institutional settings against the backdrop of individuals’ accountings and life trajectories. This study also highlights the relevance of multi-scale data analyses for revisiting the ways in which identity positions become framed or understood within higher education.

    The interest in natural fibres as reinforcement for composite materials has been steadily increasing due to their attractive mechanical properties and the possibility of making more eco-friendly materials. Currently, various alternatives are being introduced for commercial applications, as fibres such as hemp, jute and flax exhibit properties, which make them appropriate for structural composite components. Biocomposites offer reductions in weight and cost and have less reliance on foreign oil resources, making them attractive. Several investigations have revealed that the full utilisation of fibre mechanical properties in the final composites can be exploited, provided an aligned fibre orientation is chosen. In fact, a major challenge for natural fibre reinforced composites is to achieve high mechanical performance at competitive prices. The use of commingled/hybrid yarns is one of the more promising methods for manufacturing structural thermoplastic composites.

    Commingled yarns of thermoplastic and reinforcing fibres offer a potential for cost-effective production of composite parts, thanks to reduced applied pressures and impregnation times during processing. Besides economic advantages, there is also direct control over fibre placements and ease of handling of fibres in yarn process. The yarn technologies provide homogenous distribution of reinforcing fibre and matrix. Variation in natural fibre properties has been a major problem facing composite manufacturers, compared to carbon and glass fibres that have well-defined production processes. This issue can be addressed by regenerated cellulose fibres. These fibres can be reproduced easily with high surface evenness and even quality, making it possible to get consistent results, which is not possible with natural fibres. Combination of natural and regenerated cellulose fibre brings together the best of both materials. The end result is a product with superior properties, which could not be obtained by the individual components.

    This thesis describes the development of aligned hybrid yarns with low fibre twist, for high performance natural (hemp) and man-made (Lyocell) cellulose fibre-reinforced biocomposites, suitable for use in structural or semi-structural applications. The properties of composites in terms of fibre orientation, off-axis angle and alkali treatment were investigated, focusing on determining void%, water absorption, mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties. The results show that combining hemp and Lyocell in PLA composite leads to the reduction of moisture absorption and can improve the mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of the composites were highly affected by the fibre direction. The alkali treatment on hemp fibre improved the mechanical properties of the composites.

Impact strength of the composites decreased initially up to 10 mass % fibre loading, but even higher fibre loading caused an improvement in impact strength. From the DMTA results, it was evident that incorporation of the fibres gives a considerable increase in storage modulus and a decrease in tan δ values. From the general trend in the results obtained, it can be affirmed that co-wrapped hybrid yarn with lower wrapping density leads to lower mechanical properties in the composite. The study performed with DSC revealed that the crystallisation temperature of the hemp-reinforced PLA composites decreased compared to pure PLA, which indicates that the hemp fibres hinder the migration and diffusion of PLA molecular chains to the surface of the nucleus in the composites.

    This paper describes the mechanical properties and water absorption characteristics for biocomposites made from woven PLA/hemp/Lyocell prepregs. The aim was to improve the properties with the addition of Lyocell fibre into a hybrid yarn. Well-aligned hybrid yarns composed of hemp/PLA, hemp-Lyocell/PLA, respective, Lyocell/PLA were made by wrap spinning. Unidirectional satin fabrics were made by weaving with PLA (warp) and the hybrid yarns (weft). Uniaxial composites were fabricated with 30 fibre mass% using compression moulding. The composites were investigated for tensile, flexural and impact properties. Combining hemp with Lyocell in a PLA matrix improves the mechanical properties, compared to hemp/PLA composites. The composite made from the satin Lyocell/PLA fabric gave the best mechanical properties. The type of fibre reinforcement compositions did not significantly affect the water absorption of the biocomposites. Scanning electron microscopy showed that fibre pull-outs appear more often in hemp/PLA composites than in composites also including Lyocell fibre. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    PLA/hemp co-wrapped hybrid yarns were produced by wrapping PLA filaments around a core composed of a 400 twists/m and 25 tex hemp yarn (Cannabis Sativa L) and 18 tex PLA filaments. The hemp content varied between 10 and 45 mass%, and the PLA wrapping density around the core was 150 and 250 turns/metre. Composites were fabricated by compression moulding of 0/90 bidirectional prepregs, and characterised regarding porosity, mechanical strength and thermal properties by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Mechanical tests showed that the tensile and flexural strengths of the composites markedly increased with the fibre content, reaching 59.3 and 124.2 MPa when reinforced with 45 mass% fibre, which is approximately 2 and 3.3 times higher compared to neat PLA. Impact strength of the composites decreased initially up to 10 mass% fibre; while higher fibre loading (up to 45 mass%) caused an increase in impact strength up to 26.3 KJ/m2, an improvement of about 2 times higher compared to neat PLA. The composites made from the hybrid yarn with a wrapping density of 250 turns/metre showed improvements in mechanical properties, due to the lower porosity. The fractured surfaces were investigated by scanning electron microscopy to study the fibre/matrix interface.

    Abstract [en]

    In recent years, natural fibre-reinforced polymer composites have been attracting attention from the viewpoint of reducing the impact on the natural environment. Currently, the use of thermoplastic resins in composites is clearly of higher potential than the use of thermoset. There are many thermoplastic polymers derived from renewable raw materials, which are also biodegradable. Polylactic acid (PLA) is one such candidate, and it shows rather good properties that are suitable for applications that do not require long-term durability or elevated mechanical performance at higher temperatures. In order to make their possible use in many technical applications more attractive, the mechanical properties of the PLA can be enhanced by using reinforcements. Hemp fibres can be considered to be a good choice for reinforcing polymer composites, due to their high stiffness, strength, and aspect ratio. Highly ordered textile reinforcements, such as interlaced woven fabrics and unidirectional fabrics made from natural-fibre yarns, perform considerably better than random non-woven mats in natural-fibre composites. At present, the commercially available plant-fibre yarns are not intended for structural composites, but for textiles, which have entirely different demands on the yarns. Thus, work is needed to tailor-make the best plant-fibre yarn for reinforcement of composites. This also includes investigation of the possibility of combining plant-fibre yarns with the matrix polymer in fibre form into one hybrid yarn (a composite preform), and how to do it (twisting or blending). It is well known that fibres provide the highest strength and stiffness when they are continuous and aligned in the direction of the applied load. Natural fibres are naturally discontinuous and conventional spun staple yarns tend to be highly twisted, which leads to fibre misalignment and poor resin wet-out. The structured natural-fibre composites reported so far are based on twisted yarns produced by long-established conventional spinning methods, mainly ring spinning. In this paper, we report our work on improving the orientation of hemp fibres in composites by using our recent development of co-wrapped yarn structures. This novel co-wrapped yarn consists of low twist and very fine hemp yarns next to PLA filaments in the core part, which are wrapped by PLA filaments. By varying the composition of hybrid yarn, it is possible to vary the hemp fibre content from 10 to 45 wt %. An exciting recent advancement has been a new family of aligned natural-fibre reinforcements, which has overcome these issues by using low twist yarns. We also report the influence of fibre content and wrap density (number of wraps per unit length) on the properties of composites. Before compression moulding, multilayer 0/90 bidirectional hybrid yarn prepregs were prepared by winding the hybrid yarn around a steel rectangular frame. We investigated the mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of hemp-reinforced PLA composites. Compared to neat PLA, the tensile and flexural modulus and the strength of the PLA-hemp composites were significantly higher as a result of the increased fibre content. Impact strength of the composites decreased initially up to 10 wt % fibre loading, but even higher fibre loading caused an improvement in impact strength. From the DMTA results, it is evident that incorporation of the fibres gives a considerable increase in storage modulus and a decrease in tan δ values. These results show the reinforcing effect of hemp on PLA matrix. From the general trend in the results obtained, it can be affirmed that co-wrapped hybrid yarn with lower wrapping density leads to lower mechanical properties in the composite. The study performed with DSC revealed that the glass transition temperature and the crystalline melting point of PLA were not affected significantly after reinforcement with hemp. The crystallisation temperature of the hemp-reinforced PLA composites decreased compared to pure PLA, which indicates that the hemp fibres hinder the migration and diffusion of PLA molecular chains to the surface of the nucleus in the composites. No noteworthy differences in calorimetric data from DSC for composites were observed between the hybrid yarn preforms with different wrapping density. Future work will concentrate on efforts to evaluate the biodegradability of these developing and promising composites.

    This paper examines the thermal and mechanical behaviour as well as moisture absorption of aligned hemp composites using hemp/PLA wrap spun yarns. Uniaxial composites were fabricated with 30 mass% hemp using compression moulding. The properties of composites in terms of hemp fibre orientation (aligned and random), off-axis angle and alkali treatment were investigated. It was found that the testing direction influenced the mechanical properties of the composites. Compared with all the fabricated composites, the aligned alkali hemp/PLA yarn composite possessed the best mechanical properties, including tensile, flexural and impact strengths, lower porosity and water absorption. The water absorption for all composites was higher than for neat PLA, both at room temperature and 80 C. The PLA in its treated composites had higher crystallinity, which was attributed to effective heterogeneous nucleation induced by hemp. Based on SEM observation and theoretical analysis of DMTA data, there was a favourable interfacial adhesion in all composites.

    RECYCLING OF END-OF-LIFE TEXTILE MATERIALS BY FABRICATION OF GREEN COMPOSITES2017Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Material recycling requires rather pure and non-contaminated waste streams, which can be converted by technical processes into new materials and products by economically and technically feasible techniques. It is also required that there is a secondary market for these recycled materials, and preferably in use areas with high economic value. End-of-life textiles cannot yet be recycled as a raw material in a feasible way. Structural composites are an excellent use area for recycled materials, as they are durable and light-weight products, with excellent mechanical properties.

    In this study, denim woven fabrics as end-of-life textiles were employed to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of high bio-content epoxy resin. Entropy Resin, manufacturer of commercial bio-based epoxy resin, claimed that bio-based content of system is 37 % and the resin is derived from by-products of industrial processes including wood pulp and biofuel. Bioepoxy was used as bio resins in composite manufacturing, and a conventional polyester resin served as a reference material. To create a wide scope of possibilities the composites were manufacturing using the four techniques: (1) vacuum infusion (VI), (2) resin transfer moulding (RTM), and (3) hand lay-up (HND). To determine the suitability for structural applications the biocomposites were tested for their mechanical and thermal properties. Mechanical tests for tensile, flexural strength and impact behaviour were conducted on composites. Moreover, viscoelastic properties of the composites were evaluated through dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Fabricated composites were characterised regarding porosity, water absorption and analysed through microscopic images of the composite cross section. Different manufacturing technique showed varying results. For bioepoxy both HND and VI give superior mechanical properties over RTM, as the latter gives a higher void content, and lower tensile and flexural properties.

    Sammanfattning Inleveransprocessen och plockprocessen på ett företags centrallager har kartlagts, då problem med långa ledtider och bristfällig information upplevdes. Syftet med rapporten var att visa på hur kartläggningar kan användas vid förbättringsarbete och felsökning i processer. När processen kartlades användes SCOR-modellen där processen delades upp i dess beståndsdelar. Problem som observerades på företaget inkluderade onödigt mycket manuellt arbete, bristande lagerlayout och osorterade varor. De föreslagna lösningarna inkluderar Auto- ID, en ny lagerlayout och orderplockningsmetoder. De viktigaste slutsatserna som kunde dras i studien var följande: - Auto-ID kan minimera den manuella inmatningen av data, vilket dels är tidsbesparande, men även minskar riskerna för att den inmatade datan är felaktig. Auto-ID kan även användas för att visa på saldon på olika lagerplatser, vilket kan effektivisera plocklistorna, och därmed operatörernas plockrutter. - - En effektivisering av lagerlayouten minskar färdavstånden, och framkomligheten ökar. Med en ökad framkomlighet underlättas användandet av redskap som gaffeltruckar. Slutligen utförs sökandet efter produkter utförs snabbare, vilket i sin tur även kortar ner ledtiderna, då sökandet står för 20% av arbetarnas totala ledtid. Ett införande av standardiserade orderplockningsmetoder minskar färdavstånden, då det kan bestämmas i vilken ordning varorna skall plockas. Rutterna kan planeras så att trafiken minskar så att två eller fler operatörer inte plockar varor i samma korridor samtidigt. Slutligen medför ett införande av orderplocksmetoder att operatörerna blir mer specialiserade på ett visst område i varuhuset, och därmed förbrukar mindre tid till att leta efter varor.

In particular, under new-managerial regimes the forms of knowledge which are emphasised and valued focus on the instrumental and performative. As a consequence, critical and vertical forms of knowledge associated with social justice in teacher education are either absent or marginalised and reframed away from an appreciation and awareness of the structural and economic causes of inequality. Moreover, the criteria needed to effectively introduce social justice as a knowledge base in teacher education are positioned antithetically to neo-liberalism-neo-conservatism, making them arguably impossible to achieve within the current system of education in England.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the report is to analyse how automatic identification technology affects traceability, and then analyse the effects of automatic identification technology on inventory management. This report is based on the research questions "How can barcodes and RFID affect inventory management?" and "What advantages and disadvantages can automatic identification technologies lead to in warehousing?". In order to answer the report's purpose and research questions, a case study was conducted. The company is a manufacturing company and is active in the chemical industry. The company is categorized as a large company located in western Sweden. Two challenges for the company are to reduce the number of incorrect deliveries and improve the inventory accuracy. These problems are due to the fact that activities in the company's warehouse are done manually. The consequence is reduced inventory efficiency and a risk for dissatisfied customers. During the 2017 fiscal year 45 non-conformances were registered, some of which derives from incorrect deliveries. Empirical data was collected through interviews, observations and internal documents. The case study consists of a process mapping in which the company's processes and activities have been mapped. To obtain a better basis for analysis, a literature study of earlier research was conducted in the field of traceability and automatic identification technologies. A summary of the literature study is found in the theoretical framework. The theoretical framework includes traceability, automatic identification and data capture (AIDC), barcodes and radio frequency identification (RFID).The results shows which activities in the process mapping that identification technologies can be applied to and what effects an application may lead to. It appears that the identification technologies have similar effects on inventory management as they both result in automated product identification and automated transfer of information. These effects in combination with an integration with the ERP-system can lead to increased inventory efficiency with fewer incorrect deliveries and improved inventory accuracy. The company is recommended to implement AIDC, however the study shows that further research needs to be carried out to investigate what kind of barcodes or RFID is most beneficial.

    This thesis is about how you can find the cause of quality defects in manufacturing processes and how to prevent that the same issue continue to exist. A part of the thesis illuminate the importance of identifying the root cause of a problem. The purpose of the study is to highlight some of the many methods that can be used to fins the causes for defects concerning quality in the industrial sector. The data that is collected and are the basis for the result and conclusions of the case study consisted of literature studies, observations and interviews. The quality tools that are presented in the study are “Five Whys” and the Ishikawa chart, which are two tools that, among others, makes it possible to find the root cause of a problems occurrence. The practical applications of the quality tools are presented in a case study that was conducted at Johnson Controls AB in Gothenburg, Sweden. The case study was based on observations concerning one of several production lines, where the current quality problem was critical. The conclusions drawn from this thesis is that it is important to identify the root cause of the occurrence of a problem in order to implement long-term actions and measures. The risk that comes with only reliving the symptom of a problem (and not the root of it) is that it will not be eliminated but exists and constantly requires resources to be alleviated. By identifying the root cause of a problem, one can be assure that it will not occur again, since it will be eliminated. There are various methods and tools that can be used to identify the root cause of a problem; two of them that are mentioned in the report is “Five Whys” and the Ishikawa chart. It is important to focus and resources are spent on such a long-term actions and efforts.

    Detta examensarbete riktar sig till byggbranschen och handlar om hur kunskapsöverföring kan användas som verktyg för att reducera kvalitetsbristkostnader. Kvalitetsbristkostnader är en följd av fel och brister som förekommer i alla verksamheter och kan enligt tidigare forskning stå för så mycket som 30 % av ett företags totala omsättning (Sörqvist 2001). För att minska kvalitetsbristkostnader är det nödvändigt att identifiera fel och brister samt förhindra att samma fel upprepas. För att få en övergripande kunskap om byggprocessen och hur kunskapen tas till vara, har en fallstudie på Peab genomförts i form av intervjuer. Arbetets teoretiska underlag har erhållits utifrån litteraturstudier. Den slutsats som har dragits av detta examensarbete är för att uppnå ett effektivt förbättringsarbete gällande kvalitetsbristkostnader i byggbranschen och öka lönsamheten är det essentiellt att företagen har väl fungerande systematisk kunskapsöverföring. Att ledningen är drivande, engagerad och delaktig för att ytterligare stärka förutsättningarna i ett lyckat förbättringsarbete.

    This study has been made to see how a participatory model of municipal activities works in practice and whether the main purpose, to give users greater influence and a greater participation  is achieved in reality.  This  is  because the  model's  design  as  a  bottom -up perspective, where users themselves should have the opportunity to influence and to feel involved in their everyday lives. Even though the research about the participation model is limited the scientists agree that there is a problem about the behavior and communication to the clients, this will require training of staff and counselors. We have used a qualitative method of semi-structured interviews based on a phenomenological perspective. Study participants are managers, staff and counselors from local government activities in the Västra Götaland region, and they work with clients who have disabilities. The theories we have used is Habermas's communication theory and Foucault's power theory.

    Questions that respondents did reflect on included their views on the participation of the clients and if they experienced any change in the approach towards clients. We also had an interest in finding out whether it is the users themselves who should determine what themes they considered relevant to be involved in and if the decisions they make actually give effect. The approach we have assumed has been critical and of focus on dialogue, power and hidden power. What has emerged in the results is that the model has contributed to a changed approach of the staff. The power has been shifted between staff and clients. As we have problematized the discussion, all interviewees believe in the model but fear that the model will not be continued and only be a temporary activity.

    Föreliggande studie tar sin utgångspunkt i forskning som kartlades under vårt föregående examensarbete. Under det arbetet såg vi över vilken forskning som finns angående feedback respektive instruktioner i samband med problemlösning i matematik. Den åldersgrupp vi riktade in oss på var elever i åldrarna 6-10 år. I det här arbetet valde vi att endast fokusera på en utav de övergripande aspekter som eftersöktes under föregående arbete. Vi valde dessutom att bredda vårt fokus när det gäller inriktning inom matematikämnet. Istället för att endast fokusera på problemlösning valde vi att arbeta med feedback som ges inom hela matematikundervisningens ramar.

    Syfte

    Syftet med föreliggande studie är att ta reda på hur verksamma lärare ger feedback i samband med matematikundervisning. Den målgrupp vi valt att rikta in oss på är lärare som undervisar i matematik inom årskurs 1-3.

    Metod

    Denna studie har gjorts med en kvalitativ ansats. För att besvara våra frågeställningar har vi använt semistrukturerad kvalitativ intervju som metod för att samla in data. Intervjuerna gjordes i hopp om att kunna erhålla data i form av utsagor om hur lärare definierar feedback i matematik, i vilken grad de använder feedback på svar respektive feedback på strategi samt om de anpassar sin feedback till olika elever.

    Resultat

    I vår insamlade data fann vi utsagor som ger en indikation på att feedbacktyperna feedback på svar och feedback på strategi används i relativt hög grad av verksamma lärare på lågstadiet i matematikämnet. Dock verkar den distinktion som implicit görs av forskarlaget Fyfe, DeCaro och Rittle-Johnson (2015) och Fyfe, Rittle-Johnson och DeCaro (2012) mellan feedback på svar respektive feedback på strategi inte vara lika tydlig när feedback ges i praktiken. Vad vi även kan se är att de lärare som deltog i föreliggande studie redogjorde för att de ser feedback som viktigt för att hjälpa sina elever framåt. Majoriteten av lärarna beskrev även att det är viktigt att feedbacken anpassas efter vem det är som tar emot den.

    Skolans styrdokument ger olika direktiv om vad elever ska kunna när det gällerproblemlösning i matematik efter att ha gått ut årskurs 3. Vi har under vår utbildning reflekterat över hur vi ska hjälpa eleverna att uppnå dessa mål. Något som vi har eftersökt är att få kunskap om hur vi genom olika typer av stöd kan bidra till elevernas lärande inom problemlösning. I detta arbete beskrivs vad som kännetecknar forskningen om feedback ellerinstruktioner vid problemlösning i matematik samt vilka former av dessa som är effektiva.

    Syfte

    Syftet med föreliggande forskningsöversikt är att ta reda på vad som kännetecknar forskningen om feedback eller instruktioner i samband med problemlösning. Vi kommer inte att behandla dessa två begrepp som ett sammanhängande fenomen utan respektive begreppstår enskilt. Båda begreppen behandlas separat i samband med problemlösning. Varför vi valt att eftersöka båda begreppen är för att vi vill fånga upp och ge läsaren en överblick över vadforskningen säger om två olika typer av vägledning i samband med problemlösning. I föreliggande forskningsöversikt vill vi även fördjupa oss i vilka former av feedback ellerinstruktioner som framhålls som effektiva när det gäller att utveckla elevers lärande om att lösa matematiska problem. Begreppen kommer även i denna fråga behandlas separat i samband med problemlösning i matematik. Den åldersgrupp som vi valt att intressera oss för är elever från 6-10 år.

    Metod

    Föreliggande översiktsstudie gjordes genom litteratursökning i ERIC (ProQuest) och Primo. Under sökningen utgick vi från begreppen i våra frågeställningar. Vi valde att användaengelska sökord för att inte begränsa oss till endast svensk forskning. Det sammanlagdaantalet artiklar efter sökningar i respektive databas var 43. Vi granskade samtliga artiklars abstrakt och fann nio artiklar som skulle ingå i föreliggande forskningsöversikt. Ytterligare treartiklar tillkom efter referensläsning i de nio artiklarna. Det slutliga antalet artiklar som granskades var således 12.

    Resultat

    I artiklarna som granskades fann vi beskrivningar av studier som påminde om varandra i fråga om design och undersökningsupplägg. De innehöll alla en eller flera former av interventioner. Målet med undersökningarna var genomgående att testa effekterna av en eller flera former avfeedback eller instruktioner i samband med matematisk problemlösning. Genom att testaeffekterna av olika typer av feedback eller instruktioner ville man också jämföra effekterna. I merparten av studierna användes en kontrollgrupp.

    The purpose of this study was to contribute to increased knowledge of individuals selfperceptionsthrough the consumption of Tinder. To fulfill the purpose, young individualsexperiences and beliefs about Tinder have been analyzed. The thesis has an inductive and aqualitative approach.The empirical material was collected through semi-structured interviews,and in addition to this, netnographic interviews were conducted. From the empirical work, athematicization was created based on the statements of the informants and three main themeswere devised. The first main theme approached Tinder's different consumption areas,Consuming Tinder, which is important in the analysis, primarily through its explanation factorfor the two following themes; Tinder - dating or hook-up as well as Tinder and self. Theempirical material was analyzed based on social psychological theories of self andconsumption. The thesis contains a number of topics that emerged during the interviews,including the tension whether Tinder is a dating or a hook-up app. This theme was studied onthe basis of several subtitles to ultimately conclude that the consumption of Tinder is havingan impact on young people's self-perception. The study found a number of different waysyoung people consume Tinder and, depending on how Tinder is consumed, differentiate selfperceptionsto expression. Furthermore, the thesis conclude that young people construct aaltered presentation of themselves on Tinder, and there is an awareness that this presentationis not true to reality. Young adults alter their presentations in the hope of achieving morematches, and with this behavior, it appeared to follow an objectification where other userswere more viewed as an object than a person.The thesis is written in Swedish.

    Abstract [en]

    Low viscosity thermoset bio-based resin was synthesised from lactic acid, allyl alcohol and pentaerythritol. The resin was impregnated into cellulosic fibre reinforcement from flax and basalt and then compression moulded at elevated temperature to produce thermoset composites. The mechanical properties of composites were characterised by flexural, tensile and Charpy impact testing whereas the thermal properties were analysed by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed a decrease in mechanical properties with increase in fibre load after 40 wt.% for the neat flax composite due to insufficient fibre wetting and an increase in mechanical properties with increase fibre load up to 60 wt.% for the flax/basalt composite. The results of the ageing test showed that the mechanical properties of the composites deteriorate with ageing; however, the flax/basalt composite had better mechanical properties after ageing than the flax composite before ageing.

    Abstract [en]

    Synthesis of polymers from renewable origin has been reported by many authors and it has been found out that it has enormous potential and can serve as alternative to conventional thermoplastics and thermosets in many applications. The use of these renewable resources will provide sustainable platforms to substitute fossil fuel-based materials. To date, efforts made to produce 100% bio-based thermosetting materials have yet to be achieved. Many studies have been reported on increasing the renewability ratio of thermoset materials produced.

    A lot of reports have been made on the synthesis of thermoplastic resins from lactic acid for biomedical applications such as tissue engineering but only few reports have been made on composite applications. The issue of high melt viscosity of thermoplastic resins from lactic acid has been of paramount problem because of its difficulty in impregnation into fibre reinforcement. Bio-based thermoset resins have been produced for composite applications from plant oils and improved mechanical properties have been achieved.

    In this thesis, an alternative route for synthesis of lactic acid based thermoset resins have been explored to solve the above problem. Thermoset resins were synthesized from lactic acid with different co-reactants and were characterized using NMR, FT-IR, DSC, DMA and TGA. Their rheological properties were also investigated. The resins were reinforced with natural and regenerated cellulose fibres in non-woven and woven form, and with different fibre alignment and fibre loading. The resulting composites were characterized by mechanical testing regarding tensile, flexural and impact strength, and by SEM analysis regarding morphology.

    The results showed that these composites could possibly be used in automobile, transport, construction and furniture applications, particularly for interior purposes. The resins produced were found to be promising materials for composite production due to the good mechanical properties achieved.

    Abstract [en]

    A bio-based thermoset resin has been synthesized from glycerol reacted with lactic acid oligomers of three different chain lengths: n=3, 7 and 10. Lactic acid was first reacted with glycerol by direct condensation and the resulted branched molecule was then end-functionalized with methacrylic anhydride. The resins were characterized using FTIR, 13C-NMR spectroscopy to confirm the resins chemical structure and by DSC and DMTA to obtain the thermal properties. The resin flow viscosities were also measured using a Rheometer with different stress levels for each temperature used, as this is an important characteristic for resins which are intended to be used as a matrix in composite applications. The results showed that the resin with chain length n=3 have a better mechanical, thermal and rheological properties than resin with n=7 and 10. Also with its biobased content of 78% and glass transition temperature at 97°C makes it comparable with the commercial unsaturated polyester resins.
