    Abstract [en]

    During the last decades, Electrical Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (EBIS) has been applied mainly by using the frequency-sweep technique, across a range of many different applications. Traditionally, the tissue under study is considered to be time-invariant and dynamic changes of tissue activity are ignored by treating the changes as a noise source. A new trend in EBIS is simultaneous electrical stimulation with several frequencies, through the application of a multi-sine, rectangular or other waveform. This method can provide measurements fast enough to sample dynamic changes of different tissues, such as cardiac muscle. This high sampling rate comes at a price of reduction in SNR and the increase in complexity of devices. Although the frequency-sweep technique is often inadequate for monitoring the dynamic changes in a variant system, it can be used successfully in applications focused on the time-invariant or slowly-variant part of a system. However, in order to successfully use frequency-sweep EBIS for monitoring time-variant systems, it is paramount to consider the effects of aliasing and especially the folding of higher frequencies, on the desired frequency e.g. DC level. This paper discusses sub-Nyquist sampling of thoracic EBIS measurements and its application in the case of monitoring pulmonary oedema. It is concluded that by considering aliasing, and with proper implementation of smoothing filters, as well as by using random sampling, frequency-sweep EBIS can be used for assessing time-invariant or slowly-variant properties of time-variant biological systems, even in the presence of aliasing. In general, undersampling is not always a problem, but does always require proper consideration.

    Abstract [en]

    Homecare is a potential solution for problems associated with an aging population. This may involve several physiological measurements, and hence a flexible but affordable measurement device is needed. In this work, we have designed an ADAS1000-based four-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration monitoring system. It has been implemented using Raspberry PI as a platform for homecare applications. ADuM chips based on iCoupler technology have been used to achieve electrical isolation as required by IEC 60601 and IEC 60950 for patient safety. The result proved the potential of Raspberry PI for the design of a compact, affordable, and medically safe measurement device. Further work involves developing a more flexible software for collecting measurements from different devices (measuring, e.g., blood pressure, weight, impedance spectroscopy, blood glucose) through Bluetooth or user input and integrating them into a cloud-based homecare system.

    Development and preliminary evaluation of an Android based heart rate variability biofeedback system2014Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    The reduced Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is believed to be associated with several diseases such as congestive heart failure, diabetes and chronic kidney diseases (CKD). In these cases, HRV biofeedback may be a potential intervention method to increase HRV which in turn is beneficial to these patients. In this work, a real-time Android biofeedback application based on a Bluetooth enabled ECG and thoracic electrical bioimpedance (respiration) measurement device has been developed. The system performance and usability have been evaluated in a brief study with eight healthy volunteers. The result demonstrates real-time performance of system and positive effects of biofeedback training session by increased HRV and reduced heart rate. Further development of the application and training protocol is ongoing to investigate duration of training session to find an optimum length and interval of biofeedback sessions to use in potential interventions.

    Abstract [en]

    Bioimedical pilot projects e.g., telemedicine, homecare, animal and human trials usually involve several physiological measurements. Technical development of these projects is time consuming and in particular costly. A versatile but affordable biosignal measurement platform can help to reduce time and risk while keeping the focus on the important goal and making an efficient use of resources. In this work, an affordable and open source platform for development of physiological signals is proposed. As a first step an 8–12 leads electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration monitoring system is developed. Chips based on iCoupler technology have been used to achieve electrical isolation as required by IEC 60601 for patient safety. The result shows the potential of this platform as a base for prototyping compact, affordable, and medically safe measurement systems. Further work involves both hardware and software development to develop modules. These modules may require development of front-ends for other biosignals or just collect data wirelessly from different devices e.g., blood pressure, weight, bioimpedance spectrum, blood glucose, e.g., through Bluetooth. All design and development documents, files and source codes will be available for non-commercial use through project website, BiosignalPI.org.

    Mucor indicus was cultivated under aerobic and anaerobic conditions to study its tolerance against high concentration of glucose up to 350 g/L and ethanol up to 120 g/L present in the medium. The fungus could grow well even in 350 g/L glucose and produce ethanol, but it was able to assimilate the entire glucose when its concentration was less than 200 g/L. On the other hand, M. indicus produced ethanol as the main product with yield and concentration up to 0.45 g/g and 73 g/L, respectively, while glycerol, its only major byproduct, was produced up to 24 g/L. However, the fungus was not so tolerant against exogenously added ethanol, and it could not grow with more than 40 g/L added ethanol to the culture. Under aerobic conditions, M. indicus displayed different morphology, switching from long filamentous to yeast-like growth forms by increasing initial glucose concentration. This implies that yeast-like growth can be induced by growing M. indicus at high glucose concentration. Under anaerobic conditions, only one yeast-like form was observed.

    Abstract [en]

    Over the last few decades, ethanol production from renewable resources has been of interest as an alternative fuel to the current fossil fuel, due to the unstable oil market and in order to decrease net emission of carbon dioxide which leads to global warming. According to analyses of DG Transport and Energy (TREN), it is not possible to reach the current biofuels directive promoting 5,75 % biofuel by the year 2010, due to the markets and technologies, but by the year 2020 achievement of 6.9% is expected. This new law will increase biofuel demand by 3,1 %. Lignocelluloses materials, which are relatively cheap and plentiful, are considered to be the main source of feedstock’s for low-cost bio-ethanol production. The general procedure to convert lignocelluloses material to bioethanol is hydrolysis of the hemicelluloses and the cellulose to its monomer sugars, fermentation and distillation. Bacteria, yeasts and filamentous fungi are able to ferment hydrolysates from different plants and convert it to bioethanol. Mucor indicus is a filamentous fungus; it is able to utilize a wide range of hexoses, phentoses and disaccharides (cellobiose) in order to produce ethanol. The Ethanol yield and productivity of this microorganism from hexoses are as same as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. But the reason that it is one of the candidates for ethanol production is the fungus ability to utilize xylose. The cell wall of M.indicus contains significant quantity of chitosan/chitin which can be easily extracted. Chitosan is the deacetylated products of chitin. They have many applications in chemistry, biotechnology, medicine, veterinary, dentistry, agriculture, food processing, environmental protection, water purification, cosmetic and textile industries. The results of the current work show that the glucose concentration in the medium had a great impact on the lag phase, glucose consumption and ethanol production in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The lag phase increased as the initial concentration of glucose increased. While the glucose concentration increased above 190 g/l in the medium the glucose consumption and ethanol production decreased in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The glucose tolerance of M.indicus in both aerobic and anaerobic condition is about 190 g/l and in the anaerobic condition the ethanol tolerance of this fungus is around 70 g/.

    Kundens behov och värderingar förändras ständigt, vilket har medfört att fokus på både marknadsföring och management behövs för att kunna överleva konkurrensen på marknaden. Marknadsföringskonceptet har dock varit en paradox när det gäller management. Det krävs exceptionellt mycket av det interna ledarskapet för att motivera till kund- och marknadsorientering. I många årtionden har chefer blivit uppmanade att ”vara nära kunden”, ”sätta kunden i toppen av organisationsplanen” och definiera ett verksamhetssyfte med att skapa och behålla nöjda kunder. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka Apple Inc.’s marknadsfokus och hur Steve Jobs ledarskap influerade företaget och hur han påverkade organisationens marknadsorientering. Resultatet ska vara till hjälp för att se vad det är som skiljer denna organisation från andra och om nya insikter kan utvecklas. Uppsatsen bygger på en dokumentationsstudie där vi jämför vår egen utformade teoretiska modell med vårt empiriska resultat, det vill säga det insamlade materialet. Av studien framgår det att Apple Inc. har en väldigt annorlunda ledning och kultur jämfört med de konkurrerande företagen, och ändå fungerar företaget så bra att de idag toppar sina konkurrenter inom PC-industrin. Steve Jobs var en karismatisk och transformerande ledare som visste vad kunderna ville ha och han kombinerade design med användarvänlighet. Tack vare att Apple fokuserar på få produkter, till skillnad från andra konventionella elektronikföretag, har de lyckats lägga ner mer tid och fokusera på att göra den aktuella produkten ännu bättre. Apple gör något som få företag gör, och det är att de skapar en identitet där kunderna kan koppla sig till företaget och produkterna. Steve Jobs vilja att tjäna pengar gjorde att han struntade i konkurrenterna och gick sin egen väg. Genom hans förmågor fick Apple många konkurrensfördelar på marknaden.

    Idag använder sig marknadsförare och företag av relationsmarknadsföring i allt större utsträckning. Målet med relationsmarknadsföring är att skapa en långvarig relation och få lojala kunder som företaget sedan kan erbjuda en rad olika produkter och tjänster baserade på kundernas personliga preferenser. Ett vanligt sätt bland företagen att skapa denna relation med kunderna är användningen av en lojalitetsstrategi som i sin tur oftast innefattar någon form av lojalitetsprogram. En lojalitetsstrategi kan utformas på många olika sätt, i denna studie har vi framförallt undersökt hur man kan skapa kundlojalitet med hjälp av dagens digitala kommunikationsteknik. Syftet med uppsatsen var således att identifiera framgångsfaktorer vid skapandet av kundlojalitet inom möbelbranschen, där digitala kommunikationskanaler ska vara det främsta verktyget. Den framtagna informationen är sedan tänkt att användas av Halens Hem och Möbelavdelning. Uppsatsen har ett hermeneutiskt förhållningssätt och den är av den kvantitativa typen. Den kvantitativa undersökningen har genomförts i form av en webbenkät och omfattade totalt 368 respondenter, vilket gav oss en svarsfrekvens på nästan 4 procent. Resultatet av enkätundersökningen tillsammans med den teoretiska referensramen har sedan legat till grund för analysen och slutresultatet av uppsatsen. Efter tolkning av resultatet har vi sedan kommit fram till ett antal framgångsfaktorer som vi rekommenderar Halens Hem och Möbelavdelning att genomföra. De rekommendationer som våra slutsatser har lett till innefattar aspekter som vilken primär kommunikationskanal företaget bör använda sig av, vad man ska fokusera på vid ett eventuellt lojalitetsprogram, hur återköpsfrekvensen kan ökas, samt hur man på ett bättre sätt kan integrera sociala medier i sin kommunikation med kunderna. Våra rekommendationer innehåller även tips kring eventuella funktioner som företaget bör fundera över att lägga till, till sin nuvarande hemsida.

    This paper aims to contribute to the resilience development of the textile sector in a transitional economy, based on a case study of the Kyrgyz Republic, where the transition to a free market system generated broken supply chains, low diversification, a high open economy level of the textile sector and dependence on international trade regulations. The approach used is based on theories of organisational resilience, literature studies and fieldwork. Scenarios are developed and analysed by event tree and SWOT analysis, to identify resilience properties of the textile sector. Findings focus on the implications of future membership or non-membership, respectively, in the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, where both supportive and adverse effects have been identified. The results contribute to the knowledge of the transitional economy conditions and serve as a guideline for stakeholders about enhancing resilience, both at the industrial and organisational levels, of the Kyrgyz textile sector.

    The transitional period of the Kyrgyz economy from planned to free market economy modified the structure of the textile sector. The state owned big textile producers were fragmented into small sized private apparel manufacturers. The main success factor of transformation was the international trade regulation and international textile market conjuncture. Latest regionalization processes of Kyrgyz apparel exporting countries modify the existing competitive advantage of Kyrgyz apparel cluster and obligate to redesign the supply chain in order to withstand the disruption. The main purpose of the paper is to analyze the success factors of resilient supply chain during transitional period and the possibility of transferring from the global to a regional supply chain as the main resilience factor of Kyrgyz apparel companies.

    Enligt statistik från svenska palliativregistret får patienter som är i ett palliativt skede inte optimal vård, det kan innebära ett ökat lidande för både patienter och närstående. Man kan tydligt se att flera av de tolv kvalitetsindikatorer som mäts, har låg eller mycket låg måluppfyllelse. Syftet med studien var att undersöka vilken betydelse svenska palliativregistret har för sjuksköterskor i mötet med patienter i behov av palliativ vård. Vi valde att intervjua sjuksköterskor, verksamma i kommunal hälso- och sjukvård. En kvalitativ metod har använts med en induktiv ansats eftersom denna metod ansågs mest lämpad för att undersöka om sjuksköterskorna upplevde svenska palliativregistret som betydelsefullt i den palliativa vården. Resultatet redovisas i kategorier enligt följande: att öka trygghet i palliativt vårdande genom arbete med svenska palliativregistret, att dokumentera smärtskattning enligt svenska palliativregistret, att utveckla arbetssätt för ökad måluppfyllelse i svenska palliativregistret samt att driva processarbetet med svenska palliativregistret. I intervjuerna framkom att sjuksköterskorna är mycket engagerade i den palliativa vården och månar om att etablera god kontakt genom att skapa trygghet både till patient och närstående. Sjuksköterskorna uttryckte över lag att arbetet med svenska palliativregistret förbättrar den palliativa vårdens kvalitet och vårdinnehåll, som t.ex. symtomlindring, brytpunktssamtal, munhälsa men även teamarbete förbättras. Smärtlindring är enligt sjuksköterskorna det mest prioriterade området, trots det saknas rutiner för dokumenterad validerad skattning med smärtskattningsskalor, vilket krävs för att kunna göra korrekta registreringar av kvalitetsindikatorerna i svenska palliativregistret. Det har framkommit i intervjuerna att kompetensutveckling i de egna verksamheterna har skett med fokus på svenska palliativregistrets kvalitetsindikatorer, detta har bidragit till att täckningsgraden i svenska palliativregistret ökat.     Den här studien undersöker förhållandena för att inkludera bloggar i svenska folkbibliotekens kataloger. Varför förvärvas bloggar som blivit böcker, men inte bloggarna själva?

    Studien söker förståelse för och diskuterar de hinder och möjligheter som påverkar en inkludering av bloggar i katalogerna.

    Den teoretiska basen består av ett postmodernt perspektiv på biblioteken, och en jämförelse mellan olika sätt att se på folkbibliotekens uppdrag.

    Studien använder en blandad metod och kombinerar djupare intervjuer för att få insikt i folkbiblioteken, med en enkätstudie riktad till svenska folkbibliotekarier. Frågorna handlade om attityder gentemot bibliotekens uppdrag, bloggen som medieformat, och hur en inkludering av bloggar i bibliotekskatalogen skulle påverka biblioteket idag och i framtiden.

    Studien fann att bloggens materialitet medför hinder som behöver överbryggas för att en inkludering ska vara möjlig, och uppdragen folkbibliotekarierna håller viktiga gynnar en inkludering av bloggar.

    Sammanfattning Dagens klädkonsumtion sammankopplas ofta med hållbarhet framförallt gällande materialets miljöpåverkan och arbetsförhållanden i produktionen. Kläder massproduceras och tillverkas därför inte med hållbarhet i fokus. Företag kommer undan med att erbjuda icke hållbara kläder eftersom konsumenter främst fokuserar på utseende och pris istället för hållbarhet i sitt konsumentbeteende. Tidigare forskning beskriver att konsumenter har en negativ attityd till klädindustrins påverkan på hållbarhet men att de inte konsumerar hållbart på grund av kunskapsbrist. Denna brist på kunskap skapar ett gap mellan konsumenters attityd till hållbar klädkonsumtion och deras konsumentbeteende. Problemet med ökad konsumtion och hållbarhet kan kopplas till sociala medier. Sociala medier används bland annat för att hitta lättillgänglig och okomplicerad information om kläder. Tidigare forskning menar att sociala medier påverkar konsumentbeteendet genom att skapa ett behov för produkter man tidigare inte tänkt köpa. Vidare visar forskning att konsumenter påverkas mer av produktinformation från en tredje part så som vänner, familj eller referensgrupper. Vår undersökning grundar sig därför i sociala mediers stora inflytande på konsumenter och gapet mellan konsumenters attityd till och beteende vid hållbar klädkonsumtion. Uppsatsens syfte är därför att undersöka om sociala medier kan öka intresset för hållbara kläder hos yngre konsumenter. Vi fokuserar på yngre konsumenter eftersom de är uppväxta med datorer och internet samt är den grupp som flitigast använder sociala medier. I studien användes en kvalitativ metod där empiri samlades in genom fokusgrupper. Avsikten var att få en djupare förståelse för deltagarnas åsikter och idéer kring våra teman: hållbara kläder, konsumentbeteende, konsumentattityder och sociala medier. Tidigare forskning stämde överens med resultatet i vår studie där deltagarna beskrev att de inte hade möjlighet att konsumera hållbart eftersom de inte hade kunskapen om vad hållbara kläder faktiskt är. Där även textilstudenter som hade mer kunskap ansåg att det krävdes mer information för att de skulle kunna agera mer hållbart. Vidare visade även vår studie att sociala medier har en stor påverkan på ett konsumentbeteende. Genom att applicera vår empiri på ABC model of Attitudes kunde vi även se att sociala medier influerar konsumenters uppfattning, känsla och beteende vilket påverkar deras konsumentattityd. Alla deltagare i vår undersökning önskade mer lättillgänglig information om hållbara kläder i sociala medier eftersom det är en kanal de alla påverkas av. Ytterligare argumenterade de för att det krävs att fler personer tar sitt ansvar och delar kunskap om hållbara kläder för att skapa ett ökat intresse och tillslut ett förändrat beteende. Slutsatsen kunde därför dras att sociala medier kan vara ett verktyg för att öka intresset för hållbara kläder hos yngre konsumenter. Genom vår studie vill vi bidra till en djupare förståelse av konsumentbeteende samt konsumenternas attityder till hållbara kläder och sociala medier.

    By performing local projective measurements on a two-qubit entangled state one can certify in a device-independent way up to one bit of randomness. We show here that general measurements, defined by positive-operator-valued measures, can certify up to two bits of randomness, which is the optimal amount of randomness that can be certified from an entangled bit. General measurements thus provide an advantage over projective ones for device-independent randomness certification.

    Abstract [en]

    The main aim of this master thesis was to see the process of an interactive online reference service from idea to final product. The reference service we have studied is developed and used by the Library of the National Institute for Working Life in Stockholm, Sweden and goes by the name phibi. Our goal was to review the whole realization process from the reasons why a service like this was created, how the service was introduced and implemented inside the organisation and finally what the result and consequences were for both the library staff and for the users of the service. Phibi is designed to be a tool that fosters communication between the library staff and the remote users where the users get the opportunity to be helped with their questions by the library staff although they are not physically present in the library. To understand the process we conducted a case study with 11 interviews of the library staff, the superior and the initiator to phibi. We also carried out a questionnaire over the Internet to obtain the users' point of view. While the amount of answers to the questionnaire was limited, we nonetheless decided to submit the results. Based upon our research we found that the major reason, from the superior and the initiator, to starting a service like this was the opportunity to find a new way of communicating with users. Among the staff, the expectations were mixed. During the creating process the most important steps were educating and establishing the product among the staff. After the incorporation of the product into the daily work at the library, we find that the product is working well and fulfilling its purpose as a communication tool. The staff as well as the users find it useful and appreciate its availability. For the staff it has changed the routine of daily work, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

    En köldbrygga uppstår i en byggnadsdel vars isoleringsförmåga är lägre än omslutande material. Detta innebär att värmeförlusterna ökar och att den varma ytan blir lokalt kallare, vilket kan leda till nedsmutsning, mögel och kondensation. I examensarbetet har vi inriktat oss på grundkonstruktioner, närmare bestämt L-element med både lätt och tung vägg som komplement. I rapporten framgår hur vi räknat genom handberäkning och med hjälp av UNORM, ett datorprogram för beräkning av köldbryggor. För att redovisa resultatet jämförs handberäkningen med datorberäkningen, dels för att kontrollera resultatet och se skillnaden samt att se om det finns risk för mögel och kondensation med de olika L-elementen.

    Bakgrund Dialogen mellan hem och skola/fritidshem omskrivs idag i läroplanen, LGR-11(Skolverket, 2011) som en samverkan där föräldrar bör göras mer delaktiga. Denna studie presenterar olika forskning som gjorts på området, såväl svensk som utländsk och med pedagogisk respektive beteendevetenskaplig utgångspunkt. Faktorer som sociala förhållanden, etniskt ursprung och barns ålder har tagits upp i detta kapitel. Syfte Att undersöka den dialog som kan förekomma mellan pedagog och föräldrar med särskilt fokus på fritidshemmet. Metod Kvale (2007) ser den kvalitativa intervjun som ett medel att vinna nya kunskapsmarker och genom att intervjua sökte jag få fram varje pedagogs tankar men också skildringar av deras sätt att arbeta för att skapa en bild av hur dialogen ser ut och utvecklas under barns år på fritids. Resultat Den dagliga dialogen på fritidshemmet är något som pedagogerna är bekväma med att hantera och resultatet visar att man anpassar dialogen efter familjernas behov och utifrån ett perspektiv på barnets välbefinnande i verksamheten. Dialogen är som mest frekvent under de första skolåren för att sedan mattas av efter hand barnen blir äldre och då istället ersättas av olika sociala sammankomster dit föräldrar inbjuds. Resultatet visar på såväl skillnader som likheter mellan verksamheterna i fråga om prioriterade områden och strategier för att skapa alternativa former av dialog vid sidan av en daglig kontakt.

    Natural fiber composites are known to have lower mechanical properties than glass or carbon fiber reinforced composites. The hybrid natural fiber composites prepared in this study have relatively good mechanical properties. Different combinations of woven and non-woven flax fibers were used. The stacking sequence of the fibers was in different orientations, such as 0°, +45°, and 90°. The composites manufactured had good mechanical properties. A tensile strength of about 119 MPa and Young's modulus of about 14 GPa was achieved, with flexural strength and modulus of about 201 MPa and 24 GPa, respectively. For the purposes of comparison, composites were made with a combination of woven fabrics and glass fibers. One ply of a glass fiber mat was sandwiched in the mid-plane and this increased the tensile strength considerably to 168 MPa. Dynamic mechanical analysis was performed in order to determine the storage and loss modulus and the glass transition temperature of the composites. Microstructural analysis was done with scanning electron microscopy.

    Bio-based composites based on soybean oil thermoset resin were manufactured with vacuum injection molding technique. Methacrylated soybean oil (MMSO) was processed with vacuum injection molding technique without blending with styrene. The composites produced had comparatively good mechanical properties like jute composite reinforced acrylated epoxidised soybean oil (AESO) resin blended with styrene. Although the tensile strength of the jute reinforced AESO composites are slightly higher than the jute reinforced MMSO composites which was attributed to blending of AESO with styrene. However, the difference in Youngs' modulus was negligible because they have approximately equal stiffness between 2.6 GPa and 2.8 GPa. The jute reinforced AESO composites showed relatively higher flexural strengths and moduli than the MMSO counterparts. This difference was also attributed to the blending of AESO with reactive diluent such as styrene. In order to determine the dimensional stability of the composite manufactured, water absorption test was carried out and the conclusion was that the moisture uptake of the jute reinforced composites was the same, this was expected.

    Abstract [en]

    In order to reduce over-dependency on fossil fuels and to create an environment that is free of non-degradable plastics, and most importantly to reduce greenhouse gas emission, bio-based products are being developed from renewable resources through intense research to substitute conventional petrochemical-based plastics with renewable alternatives and to replace synthetic fibers with natural fibers. Many authors have done quite a lot of work on synthesizing polymers from renewable origin. Polylactic acid (PLA) has been developed and characterized, and it was found that it has enormous potential and can serve as an alternative to conventional thermoplastics in many applications. Modification of the plant oil triglycerides has been discussed by many authors, and research is still going on in this area. The challenge is how to make these renewable polymers more competitive in the market, and if possible to make them 100% bio-based. There is also a major disadvantage to using a bio-based polymer from plant oils because of the high viscosity, which makes impregnation of fibers difficult. Although natural fibers are hydrophilic in nature, the problem of compatibility with the hydrophobic matrix must be solved; however, the viscosity of the bio-based resin from plant oils will complicate the situation even more. This is why many authors have reported blending of the renewable thermoset resin with styrene. In the process of solving one problem, i.e reducing the viscosity of the renewable thermoset resin by blending with reactive diluents such as styrene, another problem which we intended to solve at the initial stage is invariably being created by using a volatile organic solvent like styrene. The solution to this cycle of problems is to synthesize a thermoset resin from plant oils which will have lower viscosity, and at the same time have higher levels of functionality. This will increase the crosslinking density, and they can be cured at room temperature or relatively low temperature. In view of the above considerations, the work included in this thesis has provided a reasonable solution to the compounded problems highlighted above. Three types of bio-based thermoset resins were synthesized and characterized using NMR, DSC, TGA, and FT-IR, and their processability was studied. The three resins were subsequently reinforced with natural fibers (woven and non-woven), glass fibers, and Lyocell fiber and the resulting natural fiber composites were characterized by mechanical, dynamic mechanical, impact, and SEM analyses. These composites can be used extensively in the automotive industry, particularly for the interior components, and also in the construction and furniture industries. Methacrylated soybean oil (MSO), methacrylic anhydride-modified soybean oil (MMSO), and acetic anhydride-modified soybean oil (AMSO) were found to be suitable for manufacture of composites because of their lower viscosity. The MMSO and MSO resins were found to be promising materials because composites manufactured by using them as a matrix showed very good mechanical properties. The MMSO resin can completely wet a fiber without the addition of styrene. It has the highest number of methacrylates per triglyceride and high crosslink density.

    A bio-based thermoset resin was reinforced with flax fabrics and Lyocell fiber. The effect of different weave architectures was studied with four flax fabrics with different architectures: plain, twill (two different types), and dobby. The effect of the outer ply thickness was studied and characterized with flexural and impact testing. Composites manufactured with plain weave reinforcement had the best mechanical properties. The tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength, flexural modulus, and impact strength were 280 MPa, 32 GPa, 250 MPa, 25 GPa, and 75 kJ/m2, respectively. Reinforcements with twill-weave architecture did not impart appreciable flexural strength or flexural modulus even when the outer thickness was increased. Plain- and dobby (basket woven style)-weave architectures gave better reinforcing effects and the flexural properties increased with an increase in outer thickness.Water absorption properties of the composites were studied and it was observed that the hybridization with Lyocell fiber reduced the water uptake. Fieldemission scanning electron microscopy was used to study the micro-structural properties of the composites.

    Health related issues, stringent environmental protection policies, search for cost effective and alternative materials and quest for renewability, sustainability and high performance materials for technical applications has led to an intense research in manufacturing biobased composites which are based on renewable thermosetting resins and natural fibres. The combination of biobased thermosetting resins with two different natural fibre reinforcements could lead to improved mechanical properties of the composite. Biobased thermoset polymers are comparable to the synthetic thermosetting polymers from petrochemicals. In this study, two different biobased resins were used as matrix and both non woven flax fibre and woven flax fabric were combined as reinforcements. The composites were made by compression moulding process. The fibres were hand laid-up and impregnation was done manually. The curing temperature was 170°С and at 40 bar. The stacking sequence of the fibres was in different orientations such as 0º, +45º and 90º. The manufactured hybrid composites have high tensile strength and stiffness and the flexural strength and modulus was also high. These composites can compete favourably with glass fibre reinforced composites in terms of strength and stiffness.1, 2 A tensile strength of about 119 MPa and Young’s modulus of 13.8 GPa was achieved, while the flexural strength and modulus is about 201 MPa and 24 GPa respectively. For the purpose of comparison, composites were made with the combination of woven fabric and e-glass fibre. One ply of an e-glass fibre mat was put in the mid-plane and this increased the tensile strength considerably up to 168 MPa. Some of the composites were made with the resin blended with styrene and the results show a higher modulus.

    Composites and hybrid composites were manufactured from renewable materials based on jute fibers, regenerated cellulose fibers (Lyocell), and thermosetting polymer from soybean oil. Three different types of jute fabrics with biaxial weave architecture but different surface weights, and carded Lyocell fiber were used as reinforcements. Hybrid composites were also manufactured by combining the jute reinforcements with the Lyocell. The Lyocell composite was found to have better mechanical properties than other composites. It has tensile strength and modulus of about 144 MPa and 18 GPa, respectively. The jute composites also have relatively good mechanical properties, as their tensile strengths and moduli were found to be between 65 and 84 MPa, and between 14 and 19 GPa, respectively. The Lyocell-reinforced composite showed the highest flexural strength and modulus, of about 217 MPa and 13 GPa, respectively. In all cases, the hybrid composites in this study showed improved mechanical properties but lower storage modulus. The Lyocell fiber gave the highest impact strength of about 35 kJ/m2, which could be a result of its morphology. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the Lyocell reinforced composite has the best viscoelastic properties.

    Biobased composites were manufactured with a compression-molding technique. Novel thermoset resins from soybean oil were used as a matrix, and flax fibers were used as reinforcements. The air-laid fibers were stacked randomly, the woven fabrics were stacked crosswise (0/90 ), and impregnation was performed manually. The fiber/resin ratio was 60 : 40. The prepared biobased composites were characterized by impact and flexural testing. Scanning electron microscopy of knife-cut cross sections of the specimens was also done to investigate the fiber–matrix interface. Thermogravimetric analysis of the composites was carried out to provide indications of thermal stability. Three resins from soybean oil [methacrylated soybean oil, methacrylic anhydride modified soybean oil (MMSO), and acetic anhydride modified soybean oil] were used as matrices. The impact strength of the composites with MMSO resin reinforced with air-laid flax fibers was 24 kJ/m2, whereas that of the MMSO resin reinforced with woven flax fabric was between 24 and 29 kJ/m2. The flexural strength of the MMSO resin reinforced with air-laid flax fibers was between 83 and 118 MPa, and the flexural modulus was between 4 and 6 GPa, whereas the flexural strength of the MMSO resin reinforced with woven fabric was between 90 and 110 MPa, and the flexural modulus was between 4.87 and 6.1 GPa.

    Health related issues, stringent environmental protection policies, search for cost effective and alternative materials, crave for renewability and sustainability and quest for high performance materials for structural applications give the motivation for research in polymer composites and material science. Due to the health, safety and environmental concerns over the conventional synthetic materials and the legislation against their usage both in domestic and industrial applications, alternatives sources that will be comparable in properties are being sought. There is an emerging market for biodegradable polymers which is expected to increase substantially in the coming years.[1] Preparation of Composites Airlaid and woven flax fibre mats were first treated with 4% sodium hydroxide solution for one hour and then washed with plenty of water. This was done in order to remove any residual impurities. The fibres were dried at room temperature for 24 hr and then dried in a vacuum oven for 1hr at a temperature of 105°С. The 8 sheets of the fibre were hand laid cross- wisely and the impregnation was done manually. The fibre/ resin ratio was about 60% to 40%. Methacrylated soybean oil, methacrylic anhydride and acetic anhydride modified soybean oil were the synthesized matrices used. The compression moulding was done at a temperature of 170°С for 5 min at 40bar. Characterisations The tensile testing was performed based on an ISO-test method for tensile tests on plastic materials. The Charpy impact strength of unnotched specimens was evaluated in accordance with ISO 179 using a Zwick test instrument and scanning electron microscopy analysis was done on the fractured specimens. The composites showed various mechanical properties, having impact strengths between 24 and 63 kJ/m² and tensile strength up to 51MPa.

    Abstract [en]

    Biobased thermosets resins were synthesized by functionalizing the triglycerides of epoxidized soybean oil with methacrylic acid, acetyl anhydride, and methacrylic anhydride. The obtained resins were characterized with FTIR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy to confirm the functionalization reactions and the extent of epoxy conversion. The viscosities of the methacrylated soybean oil resins were also measured for the purpose of being used as a matrix in composite applications. The cross-linking capability was estimated by UV and thermally initiated curing experiments, and by DSC analysis regarding the degree of crosslinking. The modifications were successful because up to 97% conversion of epoxy group were achieved leaving only 2.2% of unreacted epoxy groups, which was confirmed by 1H-NMR. The 13C-NMR confirms the ratio of acetate to methacrylate methyl group to be 1 : 1. The viscosities of the methacrylated soybean oil (MSO) and methacrylic anhydride modified soybean oil (MMSO) were 0.2 and 0.48 Pas, respectively, which indicates that they can be used in resin transfer molding process.

    Abstract [sv]

    Hjärtstopp hos barn i åldrarna 0-16 år är ett ovanligt tillstånd och drabbar cirka 100 barn årligen i Sverige. Den främsta orsaken till hjärtstopp hos barn är drunkning, trauma, luftvägsstopp, lungsjukdom och plötsligt spädbarnsdöd. Syftet med studien är att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att vårda barn 0-16 år med hjärtstopp prehospitalt. Genom ostrukturerade öppna intervjuer med en kvalitativ forskningsmetod där en induktiv ansats valts var avsikten att undersöka sjuksköterskors upplevelser och erfarenhet av vårdandet av barn med hjärtstopp. Åtta sjuksköterskor deltog. De arbetar eller har arbetat inom ambulanssjukvården och vårdat minst ett barn med hjärtstopp i åldrarna 0-16 år. Antal år i tjänst, utbildning, kön och ålder skiljde deltagarna åt. Genom kvalitativ innehållsanalys analyserades insamlad data till kategorier och resulterade i När det blir övermäktigt och overkligt, Samtal som riskerar att utebli och En händelse som aldrig glöms.

    Studiens resultat visar att sjuksköterskor som arbetar i ambulansverksamhet kan få uppdrag som upplevs som övermäktiga. Ett sådant uppdrag innebär att ta beslut som är livsgörande för kritiskt sjuka barn samtidigt som de egna känslorna måste sättas åt sidan. Att arbeta med kompetent personal speciellt om kollegan var högre utbildad, skapade trygghet och en känsla av att kunna dela på ansvaret. För att lättare kunna hantera strömmen av känslor framkom det ett behov av att erbjudas samtal efter avslutat uppdrag samtidig med ett behov av att bli tagen ur tjänst under pågående pass. Önskvärt var också utvidgade utbildningsmöjligheter för att utvecklas inom vårdandet av kritiskt sjuka barn. Vidare påvisar resultatet att det finns ett behov av bekräftelse för att känna sig nöjd med sin egen insats. Därför upplevdes det viktigt att veta att omhändertagandet av barnet varit bra. Detta skapar även trygghet och självsäkerhet inför kommande och liknande situationer.

    The purpose of this study is to examine the role social media can play in a school library context, based on a theoretical model, called “A new model for the public library in a knowledge and experienced society” by Henrik Jochumsen, Dorte Skot-Hansen and Casper Hvegaard Rasmussen. The bachelor thesis aim to answer three research questions, they are as follow: Which request of social media is there by teachers and pupils at a high school library? Which social media is the most requested by teachers and pupils at a high school library? And should the library services for teachers and students be improved if social media were used at a high school library? The methodology used for this study was an inquiry investigation. My findings are presented in a context of previous, related research and the study shows that teachers and pupils are well informed of what social media is and they use social media when they are at school. The thesis also shows that the unit I study, a vocational training unit, is more or less interested in what the school library can do for them with social media. They seldom are at the school library and they seldom use the teach platform were they can find library services. This result can open up for the school library to meet the users at a new arena with for example social media.

    Bakgrund och problemformulering

    Forskning rörande perioperativa sjuksköterskors uppfattningar av att delta i organdonationsprocessen är ganska begränsad. De flesta studier är internationella och det kan vara svårt att applicera till svenska förhållanden. Studier som gjorts särskiljer inte perioperativ personal som grupp. Därmed blir det svårt att identifiera de olika personalkategoriernas uppfattningar från varandra.

    Syfte

    Studiens syfte är att kartlägga anestesisjuksköterskors uppfattningar av att delta i organdonationsprocessen från avlidna patienter.

    Metod

    Författarna har valt att göra en kvalitativ studie. Författarna intervjuade sex anestesisjuksköterskor på tre olika sjukhus, på olika sjukhusnivåer. Datainsamlingen har skett med öppna intervjuer som skrivits ut ordagrant och sedan analyserats med fenomenografi utifrån Alexanderssons modell.

    Resultat

    Resultatet presenteras i tre beskrivningskategorier. Uppfattningar i relation till professionen, uppfattningar i relation till ingående organdonationsteam och uppfattningar i relation till existentiella perspektiv.

    Diskussion

    Resultatet visar att anestesisjuksköterskan vill göra det lilla extra under operationen av respekt för donatorn men även för mottagarna av de olika organen. Anestesisjuksköterskan är av uppfattningen att det gästande uttagsteamet är lätt att samarbeta med, att de gärna informerar och berättar och att en positiv utveckling i samarbetet har skett över tid. Vid avstängning av ventilatorn under en organdonation upplever de att de tappar sin roll i teamet och att de som anestesisjuksköterskor inte har en tydlig funktion. Samtidigt vill de vara med hela vägen tills operationen är färdig. Stöd och support från sin egen organisation efter en organdonation uppfattas som bristfällig. De samtalar ibland sinsemellan i det team som varit engagerade i ingreppet ofta i samband med att operationssalen iordningställs efteråt. Någon organiserad debriefing inom organisationen verkar inte finnas.

    Abstract [en]

    The topic of this bachelor thesis is the promotion of easy-to-read fiction for 10-12 year old children in public libraries. The number of easy-to-read fiction books is increasing on the book market. This can be expected to affect the public library. The hypotheses for the study are: 1) Public libraries expose easy-to-read fiction and use it in their reading promotion activities and, 2) The acquisition of easy-to-read books and the use of easy-to-read books in reading promotion activities have increased over the last five years. A self-completion questionnaire was distributed to 44 public libraries in Sweden. The response was analyzed using quantitative data analysis, qualitative data analysis and content analysis. The analysis show that public libraries expose easy-to-read fiction and it is included to a great extent in book talks. An increase in the acquisition of easy-to-read books has been experienced as well as in the extent to which they are recommended to readers.

    Exploring collaboration among historically black universities and doctoral/research universities in the USA2003Conference paper (Refereed)

    In the USA, historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) seldom have sufficient resources and infrastructure to support faculty and student research or doctoral education. In contrast, doctoral/research universities (DRUs) have extensive resources and infrastructure to support research and doctoral education. istoricHBoth HBCUs and DRUs have talented faculty and students, and collaboration between faculty and students and HBCUs and DRUs has the potential of increasing the physical and intellectual resources brought to bear in research and student education. However, not all collaborations are successful. We studied four instances of collaboration among HBCUs and DRUs to investigate points of tension, identify successful practices, and gather suggestions for improving existing and future collaborations between institutions with different cultural heritages and organizational priorities.

    Detta examensarbete gjordes på uppdrag av Norrbys kommundel som är en del av Borås. Syftet med arbetet var att kartlägga och analysera äldreomsorgens nyttjande av bilarna som de förfogar över samt undersöka om det finns ett behov av att effektivisera organisationen och användandet av bilarna och även hur detta skall gå till. För att genomföra detta uppdrag och få en teoretisk grund att stå på har lämplig litteratur och olika metoder för informationsinsamling studerats. Ett flertal intervjuer med handledaren samt ett möte med alla enhetschefer inom äldreomsorgen har genomförts för att få ingående information om verksamheten. Norrby kommundel som omfattar ett flertal stadsdelar i västra Borås däribland de utanförliggande delarna Byttorp, Tullen, Hestra, Ekås och Viared har sitt huvudkontor i stadsdelen Norrby som ligger i västra delen av Borås centralort. Logistik har varierande syften beroende på företag och vilken bransch de befinner sig i. Ett av syftena kan vara att förbättra effektiviteten i verksamheten och därmed att i slutändan åstadkomma en positiv resultatpåverkan. Genom förändringar i den organisatoriska strukturen, i det fysiska varuflödet samt genom bättre planerings- och styrsystem kan effektiviteten i logistikprocessen förbättras. Effektivitet kan utryckas med hjälp av olika effektivitetsvariabler. För att få en verksamhetsriktning som stämmer överens med företagets övergripande strategi och mål kan man uttrycka dessa i termer av effektivitetsvariabler samt mäta och följa upp dem. Minskning av det totala transportbehovet kan ske med bra transportplanering genom bra utnyttjande och ett effektivt användande av transportresurserna. För att genomföra planeringen måste det först och främst bestämmas hur nätverket av anläggningar och kunder ska se ut och hur tjänsterna ska flöda mellan dem. Nätverksplanering är en bestämning av geografisk placering och kapacitet i anläggningar, till exempel från vilken anläggning sjuksköterskor skall åka ifrån, mellan vilka områden de skall färdas och var de vilar efter besöken. Ett av målen med detta kan vara att försöka minimera de totala logistikkostnaderna samtidigt som leveransservicen ska öka. För att uppnå effektivisering krävs det en ständig förbättringsprocess. Denna process innebär förändringar av verksamheten vilka kan uppfattas som extra arbete, stora omställningar och extra kostnader. Som anställd känner man sig trygg i den nuvarande kretsen och kan uppfatta förändringar som något negativt. Det kan bero på att man koncentrerar sig på ett kortsiktigt perspektiv och inte ser en helhetsbild på längre sikt. För att motverka denna inställning bör de anställda informeras för att de ska få en bättre klarhet över vad meningen är med förändringarna. Det har visat sig att Norrby kommundel har brister i kommunikation och planering av verksamheten vilket leder till ineffektivitet. För att åtgärda detta krävs det kontroll över enheternas bilar samt även koordination mellan enheterna. Dessa arbetsuppgifter kan fördelas på enhetscheferna som träffas regelbundet för samordning eller så läggs ansvaret på en enskild person inom kommundelen.

    Increase in survival and bystander CPR in out-of-hospital shockable arrhythmia: bystander CPR and female gender are predictors of improved outcome.     Objectives In a national perspective, to describe survival among patients found in ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia witnessed by a bystander and with a presumed cardiac aetiology and answer two principal questions: (1) what are the changes over time? and (2) which are the factors of importance? Design Observational register study. Setting Sweden. Patients All patients included in the Swedish Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register between 1 January 1990 and 31 December 2009 who were found in bystander-witnessed ventricular fibrillation with a presumed cardiac aetiology. Interventions Bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation. Main outcome measures Survival to 1 month. Results In all, 7187 patients fulfilled the set criteria. Age, place of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and gender did not change. Bystander CPR increased from 46% to 73%; 95% CI for OR 1.060 to 1.081 per year. The median delay from collapse to defibrillation increased from 12 min to 14 min (p for trend 0.0004). Early survival increased from 28% to 45% (95% CI 1.044 to 1.065) and survival to 1 month increased from 12% to 23% (95% CI 1.058 to 1.086). Strong predictors of early and late survival were a short interval from collapse to defibrillation, bystander CPR, female gender and OHCA outside the home. Conclusion In a long-term perspective in Sweden, survival to 1 month after ventricular fibrillation almost doubled. This was associated with a marked increase in bystander CPR. Strong predictors of outcome were a short delay to defibrillation, bystander CPR, female gender and place of collapse.
