    Abstract [en]

    The office environment can variate in different workplaces, therefore it’s important to research how much the physical office environment can influence the employees’ work situation and feeling of community and wellbeing. Previous research has shown that factors such as the amount of people in an office space or the possibility to privacy can influence the employees’ sense of coherence in their work. Even the employees’ experience of the air quality and light has been shown to affect the employees’ behavior at work. In January of 2016 the employees at the Health Care sector in one of the city districts in Göteborgs stad moved their offices, from offices in an old retirement home to a county office building.

    The purpose of this research is to get a better understanding of how the new office environment have influenced the employees’ experience in regards to their new work situation and feeling of community and wellbeing. The research was conducted with the help of quality based interviews with nine employees and a small observation of the physical work environment at the Heath Care sector’s new office spaces. The major findings in this study showed that the new closeness, were the different functions within the sector now share the same office space, has had a clear influence on the employees work situation and feelings of community and wellbeing. Where the communication between the functions has improved, something that also has improved their conditions for cooperation. The study also showed that the size, the structure and the physical attributed of the office space has had an influence on the employees’ sense of coherence, by creating better conditions for organization, control and cooperation.

    Projektet har utförts på uppdrag av Mont Blanc som är en tillverkare av takräcken, takboxar och cykelhållare m.m. Uppdragsgivaren har intresse av att testa sina takräcken för vibrationer som orsakas av en bil i rörelse. Uppgiften har bestått i att ta fram förslag på utrustning som kan simulera vibrationer från vägbana samt rekommendation på hur takräckena skall fästas på utrustningen. Arbetet inleddes med datainsamling genom intervjuer samt möten med uppdragsgivaren och återförsäljare. För att ta reda på vilka typer av utrustning som finns på marknaden gjordes en marknadsanalys. Parallellt med detta gjordes idé- och konceptgenerering för fästanordningen. Resultatet blev ett system med en elektrodynamisk vibrator som skakar takräckena i en axel. Den elektrodynamiska vibratorn fungerar som en högtalare. Den verkar genom att en talspole rör sig upp och ner i ett magnetfält med hjälp av växelström och därmed får armaturen att skaka. Fästanordningen som rekommenderas består av en T-spårskena och T-spårmutter vilka först skruvas fast i en platta och sedan i monteringsbordet på skakutrustningen. Takräckena monteras på fixturer som sedan skruvas fast i T-spårskenan. Fästanordningen tillåter justering av fixturerna i en axel vilket var ett av uppdragsgivarens krav. I studien diskuteras behovet av en vibrationsutrustning som testar takräcken i fler än en axel i taget, samt svårigheterna med att jämföra olika systemförslag. Rekommendationen är ett system bestående av en elektrodynamisk vibrator och montering med T-spårskena.

    Abstract [en]

    The labour market today is characterized by flexibility and a demand on the individual of maintaining employability by remaining educated, experienced and by having a positive approach concerning being available after work hours. The aim of the study is to understand the relation between the current conditions of the labour market and its effects on employee mental health. 

    Throughout the study, several aspects have been investigated: Boundless work, availability after work hours, previous education, the distinction between work life and private life, and the effect of these aspects on mental health. The empirical material has been analyzed with the following theoretical framework: the Theory of Power, the Effort-Reward Imbalance Model and the Control-Demand model, including the later updated version with the third variable; work-related social support. The empirical material is gathered by eight semi- structured interviews. 

    The results of the study showed distinctions between how the demands of the labour market are perceived and how it affects mental health. Hence, the negative effects on mental health depend on the demands of availability after working hours, which in turn vary depending on previous education, a lack of support from manager and colleagues, and an experienced demand of employability.

    Intressenters efterfrågan på CSR har ökat, då näringslivet till stor del står till svars för den exploatering som sker av människan och miljön. Organisationers behov av legitimitet från omgivande intressenter, för att blir framgångsrika på marknaden, har därför lett till att allt fler organisationer väljer att frivilligt hållbarhetsredovisa. Studier visar dock att det ibland förekommer en särkoppling mellan organisationers externt redovisade CSR och deras praktiskt utförda CSR-arbete, vilket kan bli problematiskt då det kan leda till att en skev bild av hållbar utveckling presenteras. Föreliggande studie ämnar kritiskt granska särkoppling i relation till hållbar utveckling för att undersöka om och i så fall varför en organisations externa hållbarhetskommunikation kan leda till tröggående hållbar utveckling. Detta genom att utforska vad en förebildsorganisation externt kommunicerar gällande hållbarhet och hur det korresponderar med verkligheten. Urvalet utgörs av organisationen Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) då det går att argumentera för att organisationen är en förebild inom den globala textil- och konfektionsmarknaden. Genom en kritisk diskursanalys analyseras H&M:s hållbarhetsredovisning i syfte att se vilka diskurser organisationen externt kommunicerar samt hur dessa diskurser korresponderar med verkligheten.

    Resultatet/diskussionen utmynnar i att de diskurser som H&M externt kommunicerar främst villkoras av marknadsrationella ideal, varför en ”marknadisering” av kommunikationen går att argumentera för. Troligtvis kommuniceras detta av strategiska skäl då marknadsrationella ideal går i linje med den dominerande samhällsideologin nyliberalism, vilket kan leda till att organisationen erhåller legitimitet. Då en ”marknadisering” av H&M:s CSR-kommunikation identifieras i studien och detta vidare argumenteras för möjliggör ett sätt för organisationen att ta ett mer distanserat ansvar gällande hållbar utveckling i den sociala verkligheten, så skapas även argument för att H&M som förebild är med och bidrar till tröggående hållbar utveckling. Detta kan förstås utifrån nyinstitutionell teori som bland annat gör gällande att organisationer tenderar att efterlikna andra organisationer vars koncept är legitimitetsskapande och framgångsrika.

    We evaluated the clinical effects of a myofeedback-based teletreatment service in terms of pain, pain-related disability and work ability. We also investigated the time investment/savings of this treatment with respect to conventional care. Sixty-five women with neck and shoulder pain at work participated in the study. Thirty-three took part in the teletreatment and 32 participated in a control group which continued with conventional care. Questionnaires were completed before the start of the intervention (baseline) and at initial follow-up (T0) and 3 months (T3) after the intervention ended. A general linear model analysis for repeated measurements showed an improvement in terms of pain and work ability for both groups taken together, with no differences between them. Non-parametric tests showed an intervention effect in pain-related disability for both groups together and no differences between them when tested at baseline, T0 and T3. The time saved in relation to conventional care was mainly from reduced travel time, which was 41 min per teleconsultation. The teletreatment service allowed employees to take part in muscle relaxation training while performing their regular work. The clinical evaluation showed that the treatment was on par with conventional care, but without the effort and time loss associated with regular visits to the clinic. We conclude that the myofeedback-based teletreatment service has potential for addressing neck and shoulder symptoms at the workplace.

    Abstract [en]

    Given that N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) is a promising alternative for the pretreatment of lignocelluloses, a novel process for ethanol and biogas production from wood was developed. The solvent, NMMO, is concentrated by multistage evaporation, and the wood is pretreated with the concentrated NMMO. Thereafter, ethanol is produced by the non-isothermal simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (NSSF) method, which is a rapid and efficient process. The wastewater is treated by upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) digester for rapid production of biogas. The process was simulated by Aspen plus®. Using mechanical vapor recompression for evaporators in the pretreatment and multi-pressure distillation columns, the energy requirements for the process were minimized. The economical feasibility of the developed biorefinery for five different plant capacities was studied by Aspen Icarus Process Evaluator. The base case was designed to utilize 200,000 tons of spruce wood per year and required M€ 58.3 as the total capital investment, while the production cost of ethanol is calculated to be €/l 0.44.

    Abstract [en]

    New technology in the automotive industry is the key to success. Therefore, it is appreciated when people come with new design ways to solve problems. This leads to innovation in the automotive industry that will lead to better and more environmentally friendly cars. This report presents a concept on a pushing counter lever spring which provides the same characteristics of force curve as a diaphragm spring in a pressure plate of a car has.

    The mechanism is to be used for long-term testing and evaluating clutch pedals.

    The work describes the development process and the manufacture of a prototype. The program Creo (CAD / 3D) is largely used to construct the components. As are the subprograms Mechanism Design and Simulate to simulate the movement and loads. Excel is a great help at the theoretical calculation of the mechanism and to evaluate the theory behind the concept.

    The result shows how to simulate a diaphragm spring in the pressure plate in a car for long-term testing of clutch pedals. The goal is to accurately mimic the force curve of a diaphragm spring, in order to design better pedals, and thus reduce the weight on the pedals to in turn reduce fuel consumption to protect the environment is one of the most important factors of all in the automotive industry.

    Det finns en kunskapslucka angående hur det fungerar med att ha sin brukare som chef, då det inte fokuserats på det här perspektivet inom forskningen. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur personliga assistenter upplever att det fungerar att ha sin brukare som chef med fokus på hur arbetsmiljön kan påverkas av krocken mellan AML och LSS samt ledarskap. Att vara chef är ett stort ansvar och brukarna har ofta mycket runtomkring sig samtidigt som deras liv har tagit dem in på en väg som de inte hade tänkt sig. Är de rustade att ha det ansvaret eller är det kanske klokare att assistenterna har en utomstående chef? Semistrukturerade intervjuer gjordes med fem personliga assistenter för att få deras perspektiv. Som stöd i analysen används olika teoretiska inslag av Foucault, Goffman samt Karasek och Theorell. Resultatet visar att det finns vissa svårigheter med att ha sin brukare som chef vilket grundar sig i bland annat att assistenterna har svårt att säga nej till brukarna. De utför arbetsuppgifter som sträcker sig utanför ramen för personlig assistans, både medvetet och omedvetet, men de vill leverera till sina brukare vilket leder till att de trots allt utför dessa arbetsuppgifter. En annan sak som framkom var att utbildningar för assistenterna samt andra satsningar på arbetsmiljön blev lidande på grund av att brukarna inte prioriterade detta ur sin budget.

    This study is about a company's onboarding process and six new employees' experience of this. Onboarding refers to the process that helps newly recruited individuals to move from being organizational outsiders to organizational insiders.

    Using a structured onboarding program has proven to contribute to several positive factors. Some ofthese factors that we mentioned in this work include that the new employees get a deeper understanding of their new tasks and their role in the organization, which in turn has proved to result inmore productive and committed employees.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate how the onboarding process on a company is experienced by newly employed employees by answering the research questions; How was the onboarding designed within the organization and how was the onboarding of new employees experienced? Based on a qualitative method, the empirical data has been collected through semi-structured interviews with a total of seven respondents, one of these seven being an administrator of the company responsible for the onboarding and the remaining six being new employees. The theoretical framework used in analyzing collected empirical data consists of Bauer's (2010) models of organizational and individual aspects of onboarding as well as Van Maanen and Schein (1979) theory of organizational socialization. The result shows that the studied work is formal and structured with its onboarding and that there was a clear difference in the experience for staffing employees and individuals who were directly employed at the company.

    Det finns alltid ett behov av att kontrollera och styra uppträdande risker till acceptabla nivåer. Processen kallas riskhantering eller risk management och syftar till att eliminera eller begränsa risker med hänsyn till kostnader, politiska och strategiska överväganden och andra faktorer. Ett huvudelement inom riskhantering är riskanalysen, vilken innefattar en beskrivning av systemet eller aktiviteten, identifiering av riskkällor och bedömningen av riskens omfattning och allvarlighetsgrad. Riskkontroll är ett följande steg i riskhanteringen. Risk är i grunden är en kombination av sannolikhet och konsekvens. Riskhanteringen berör också organisationers sårbarhet, resiliens och kontinuitetsplanering, vilket kan översättas till konkurrensförmåga, framgångsmöjligheter och långsiktig överlevnad. En riskanalys bör föregå varje projekt, åtagande eller investering.

    Abstract [en]

    Background. The Swedish labour market has historically been characterized by low unemployment and high employment rates but during economic downturns, the tradition of low unemployment has changed. As a result of increased unemployment public costs enhanced including social assistance, which put increased demands on the government as well as public activation programs of the unemployed. By offering labour market programs the investigated municipality in this study wants to create opportunities for unemployed individuals to achieve self-sufficiency.

    Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to examine participants' and supervisors' perceptions of the labour market measures offered in the studied municipality. Furthermore, the paper intends to try to understand the labour market based on employability and welfare states.

    Method. A qualitative approach in the form of semi-structured interviews was used to produce empirical material in this study. Seven respondents, four of which are responsible for the public labour market processes, and three are or have been participants in one of the municipality's actions.

    Results. The results show that both participants and managers have a consistent picture of the interventions design and participants' perceptions of the measures are generally positive. Those responsible highlights on several occasion the importance of the individual's own will and responsibility to participate in the action. Further, also seen motivation as an important part of the implementation of the action. The objective of the measure is to achieve employability is not directly stated, but the characteristics are claiming that this is an important part of the social unit performs. Regarding the welfare state and the new liberal elements, we can see that there is a greater responsibility regarding individual responsibility in providing employment.

    In today's society, where the service sector is well-widespread, the concept of good treatment becomes actualized, since no individual wants to experience that they are not listened to or receive a bad response.

    Health care includes emotional work where the staff and the user create a relationship with each other. With in-home care, it is at an even more intimate level when work is done in the private home of the elder. Because the National Board of Health has formulated National Value Based on the Government's Directive, the goal of good treatment has been formalized for all health care professionals in Sweden. In this study, it has been investigated how home service personnel in two Western Swedish municipalities relate to the concept of good treatment and what strategies they use to achieve this goal.

    In order to complete the study we have used a qualitative method with the aid of semi- structured interviews. We interviewed six respondents, three of whom were men and three were women. The result shows that respondents use the same strategies to fulfill the goal of good treatment. However, it is rather the expectations of the elder that affect the respondents the most. For the male respondents, it is considered an advantage to manifest masculinity by being physically strong or long. All respondents perceive that the female elders would rather have male staff to converse with than to perform their duties. The female respondents perceive that higher demands are made on the performance of their duties.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose of this paper A new topic that during the last years has come to the attention of researchers is supply chain security. Stakeholders are progressively realizing the importance to join the authority regulations issued by governments (e.g. AEO) to reduce transport delays at Customs or other business certifications (e.g. TAPA) to reduce theft or counterfeiting. However the differences and impacts of security certifications are not always well understood. This paper has the main purpose to explore similarities and diversities of security certifications and to identify their effects on supply chain efficiency and security. Design/methodology/approach This research is based on a system-theoretical approach to describe security certifications, make a comparative analysis and deduct their impact on transport operations. The research design is primarily based on a literature search. Findings The findings put in evidence that authority and business security certifications can be complementary. Moreover transport operators and legislative bodies are recommended to initiate collaboration experiences. Research limitations/implications (if applicable) The comparative analysis will only focus on three main European certifications: the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), the Freight Security Requirements and the Trucking Security Requirements issued by the Transported Assets Protection Association in Europe (TAPA EMEA). Practical implications (if applicable) The analysis proposed in this paper may support logistics and supply chain managers in the analysis and comparison of authority and business certifications for decision-making.     Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this investigation is to emphasize the negative effects of security on transport performance. The methodology is based on the analysis of a large workshop with security experts and multiple case studies, where data is collected by means of observations, and unstructured and semi-structured interviews. The findings from the empirical data seem to demonstrate the initial hypothesis that security measures affect efficiency in terms of lower operational performance. Therefore, this paper discusses the importance of developing security capabilities to be integrated in existing logistics information systems. Only in this way will transport companies develop the capability to fully realize wins in terms of both security and efficiency.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study has been to investigate women's career opportunities and experiences of working at the police authority, which is a male-dominated organization. In the presentation of the study, we have chosen to describe empirical data from the respondents own perspective and then link the representations with theories of organizational and gender structures that can explain the police authorities' hierarchies and division of labor. The essay is based on a qualitative approach and the collected material is presented on the basis of interviews that we have done with six women who work in different places within the police authority. The result indicates that women's experiences within the Police are similar to each other even when they are at different departments and hierarchical levels. The women's experiences show that there are obstacles and difficulties for them in the organization. They are underrepresented and do not constitute the ideal police based on masculinity. They should be able to work and be accepted in the organization in a similar way to their male colleagues. The women often take a greater responsibility for the family, which thus affects their careers and professional status. The result of the study has been able to strengthen our own understanding and demonstrated that masculinity is the norm within the authority.

    Utbildning ses idag som centralt för att bli och förbli anställningsbar och de senaste åren har ansökningarna till högskolor och universitet ökat i Sverige. Personalvetarprogrammen är ett av de program som ökat mest. Vårt intresse väcktes för att undersöka vilka motiv studenter har för att söka till personalvetarprogram och vilka förväntningar som finns på programmet. För att kontrastera och problematisera detta gjordes en jämförelse med vad företrädare inom HR-området har för krav och förväntningar på personalvetarstudenter som potentiella arbetstagare. Vi har utfört fem semistrukturerade intervjuer med studenter på Opus-programmet och fem med HR-företrädare. Resultatet visar att studenterna har ett instrumentellt förhållningssätt till studierna och att det främsta motivet för att läsa på högskolan är för att få ett jobb med kvalificerade arbetsuppgifter. Studenterna främjar sin anställningsbarhet genom utbildningen men betraktas ej av HR-företrädarna som anställningsbara till de representerade HR-avdelningarna i studien.

    Supply chain disruptions may derive from various sources but the antagonistic threats are centered in supply chain disruption. Antagonistic threats are dynamic due to the spiral input, processes and feedbacks which create a very complex situation to analyze, assess and making decision. Beside risks, vulnerability derived from supply chain characteristics is the other issue which should be measured. Antagonistic threats are magnified in such vulnerable supply chains. After 9/11, 2001, the Security and Efficiency of the global supply chain has become an important issue in global transportation. This leads firms to consider Supply chain security as part and parcel of a company’s comprehensive risk-management program. In a security business, it is essential to understand different type risks and evaluate transportation assets, do risk based prioritization, and protect customers through cost effective actions. This could be occurred corresponding to risk management methods. Providing security may occur internally by firms or they outsource it to security providers which could be performed in higher quality or more cost effectively. In this article, we focus on managing the risks and securing the supply chain business with the security theory and strategies in the supply chain and transportation network. In order to discover risks throughout the supply chain, security provider needs to find risk hot spots where the likelihood of risk is higher. We propose two approaches (geographical and elements/process) to seek probable risks. The next step is to take strategies for risk prevention and risk mitigation. Consequently, we connect the security strategies from the literature review and collected information from security business to suggest a suitable model of how to handle the risks and achieve security in a systemic and scientific way.
