Changing teacher education in Sweden2011Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Despite attempts through official policy over the past forty years and up to the end of the first decade of the new millennium to ‘unite’ teacher education and provide a common teacher education programme for all teachers with a common professional scientific knowledge content, as in many other countries teacher education in Sweden today is still currently subjectively structured in accordance with a vertically and horizontally differentiated school system that gives rise to different teacher educational traditions and different ways of perceiving what characterizes the teachers’ mission and professional expertise. Moreover, recent developments are reinstating this distinction even at an objective level of formal policy. The present paper discusses and illustrates these issues based on data from three separate ethnographic studies of teacher education over the past twenty five years by the authors. This research constitutes thus a series of policy ethnographic investigation across three decades of policy making in Swedish teacher education.

Stigmatisation, identity, and educational exclusion in postindustrial societies: A qualitative synthesis of research from UK, Germany, and the Nordic countries2019In: Diaspora, Indigenous, and Minority Education, Vol. 13, no 1, p. 54-67Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

From existing research, we know segregation in poverty-intensive and immigrant-dense suburban spaces cannot be easily dissociated from educational inequality and exclusion. Our aim in this paper is to explore the link between urban segregation, social deprivation, migration and education by bringing together the findings from several ethnographic studies conducted in Europe. The starting point for our discussion is the findings from one meta-ethnogaphy which examined youth experiences of territorial stigmatisation, ethnification of poverty and educational inequality in economically challenged residential areas in Nordic cities. Our analysis has attempted to synthesise the findings from that study with those from ethnographies conducted in England and Germany. Results show how formal education is not only failing to contribute to the disruption of the processes which sustain social segregation, poverty and territorial stigmatisation but it is itself subjected to those. We argue that the value of education when this is conceptualised as commodity and promoted in the context of a market economy cannot but be at least partially dependent upon the inequality in its provision.

Educational and spatial justice in rural and urban areas in three Nordic countries: a meta-ethnographic analysis2018In: Education Inquiry, ISSN 2000-4508, E-ISSN 2000-4508Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article is based on a meta-ethnographic analysis of educational research from rural and urban areas in Finland, Norway and Sweden following the reorganisation of educational supply there in line with market policies. Edward Soja’s concept of spatial justice shapes the analysis. Using meta-ethnography, we try to present a contextualising narrative account of spatial justice and injustice in the education systems in the three countries. Thirty-one Nordic ethnographic publications (a mix of monographs, book chapters and articles) have been used in the meta-analysis. Just over half of them come from Sweden, and most are from urban education studies. The other half are relatively evenly divided between Norway and Finland. All were published between 2000 and 2017. Sweden represents an extreme position in relation to the new politics of education markets. Its promotion of school choice and schools-for-profit has attracted significant attention from ethnographic researchers in recent decades and is given particular attention in the article.

Democratic education: ethnographic challenges2003Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The idea of democratic schooling with its emphasis on equality is seriously attacked by the marketisation of education. New policies of educational restructuring emphasise accountability and close links between school and industry, where schools and students become targets of constant evaluation and competition. This book challenges such policies and practices through analyses of their negative consequences for social justice and democracy. It explores the effects of restructuring on everyday life in schools and other educational institutions and presents analyses of how differences based on gender, social class, ethnicity, nationality and embodiment are dealt with in educational settings. The authors draw on a range of theories, including poststructuralist, postcolonial, feminist and Marxist perspectives, and the localised ethnographies are contextualised in changing educational politics. How policies are contradicted by practices is discussed in relation to the classroom, teacher education and issues of inclusion and exclusion. A critical gaze is directed at Nordic countries where restructuring processes contradict a political discourse based on equality and comprehensive education. It is the immersion in the daily life of institutions and their participants that gives ethnography a particular edge in obtaining insights into what changes and what stays the same. This book provides a looking glass into the tensions and contradictions that New Right policies have introduced in educational institutions. Actors in the field experience frustration in introducing changes and controlling the direction of those changes. It is their voices that ethnographers try to hear and disseminate. Most ethnographers do not simply tell a (more or less) gripping story about the field - they aim to analyse the practices they encounter, and endeavour to render them into analytical narratives that tell different stories than those produced through policy research or questionnaires and interviews. Although these are not necessarily better stories, we suggest that they are particularly relevant in demonstrating the organisation and practice of producing difference. (Description by the publisher).

Rurality and education relations: Metro-centricity and local values in rural communities and schools2018In: European Educational Research Journal (online), ISSN 1474-9041, E-ISSN 1474-9041Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Based on ethnographic fieldwork in six different types of rural area and their schools in different parts of Sweden, this article identifies how rural schools relate to the local place and discusses some of the educational implications from this. Recurrent references to the local community were present in some schools and people there explicitly positioned themselves in the local rural context and valorised rurality positively in education exchanges, content and interactions, with positive effects on young people’s experiences of participation and inclusion. These factors tended to occur in sparsely populated areas. An emphasis on nature and its value as materially vital in people’s lives was present as was a critique of middle-class metrocentricity. Such values and critique seemed to be absent in other areas, where rurality was instead often represented along the metrocentric lines of a residual space in modernizing societies.

Predicting the use of praise among pre-service teachers: The influence of implicit theories of intelligence, social comparison and stereotype acceptance2012In: Education Inquiry, ISSN 2000-4508, E-ISSN 2000-4508, Vol. 3, no 2, p. 259-281Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This investigation concerns feedback praise (person and process praise) and how it relates to implicit theories of intelligence (entity and incremental theories) among pre-service teachers. In the first study 176 pre-service teachers participated, while in the second study 151 of such teachers participated. Two new measures, one of feedback praise and the other of social comparison, were found to be reliable and valid. In the first study, process praise was predicted by the variable incremental theories of intelligence and person praise was predicted by the acceptance of stereotypes. However, these results suffered in the reliability analyses and, even if the models are significant, they should be rejected. The results of the second study are more reliable, with regression analyses showing that person praise can be predicted from the two predictor variables of entity theories of intelligence, and social comparison. Some positive effects of teacher education were found in the second part; for example, the preference for person praise was significantly lower in the last semester than in the first.

Young people and democratic education: On formal schooling, student initiatives, class and gender2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper introduces the symposium Active citizenship for whom? On democratic education in the upper secondary school, from a national Swedish project that set out to explore democratic education in various upper secondary school programmes. The aim of the paper is to provide a context for the empirical results from the project, by presenting central themes, concepts, discussions and results in the area of democratic education in upper secondary and secondary education. Citizenship and democracy in formal schooling and young people’s initiatives to influence and pursue these issues in school and also other settings are two central themes explored in the paper. In particular, we bring together research on the teaching of citizenship and democracy with research focussing on the attempts of young people to influence and make a difference in school and other parts of society. The paper also provides an overview to the design of the research project and the relations between the empirical papers that are to be presented at the symposium.

    Abstract [en]

In this article we aim to present an overview of some of the ways in which issues of race and ethnicity are represented and researched in educational ethnography in Scandinavia. Several things are suggested. Amongst them is that educational ethnographers in Scandinavia rarely use the concept of race. The term (im)migrant(s) is used instead and the relationships in education between Scandinavians and (im)migrants and between educational results and (im)migrant culture and/or languages is often in focus. Integration has also been an issue. History may give an indication as to how this may have become so. Research on immigrants, immigration and integration has been promoted in national policies and these policies highlight language, culture and diversity but for historical and political reasons they often avoid ethnicity and ignore race and color altogether. Moreover, when ethnicity is used it seems to be used more as an ontological marker than as an epistemological concept. This has repercussions we suggest for understanding the politics of race and ethnicity relations in relation to education.

Authoritative Knowledge in Initial Teacher Education: Studying the Role of Subject Textbooks through Two Ethnographic Studies of Mathematics Teacher Education.2012In: Journal of Education for Teaching, ISSN 0260-7476, E-ISSN 1360-0540, Vol. 38, no 2, p. 115-125Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Two related ethnographic research projects on mathematics teacher education in Sweden are presented in this paper. They represent a response to recent policy developments that reaffirm the value of authoritative subject studies content as the central and most important component in the professional knowledge base of would-be teachers and concomitant increases in the amount of subject studies in teacher education. These policy changes, in Sweden at least, lack scientific research support and the article argues that these policies need to be seriously rethought, as the increased emphasis on subject content may undermine the development of key professional skills.

The Politics of Textbook Use: An Ethnographic Investigation2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The subject textbook has been studied and described by amongst others Michael Apple (Apple 1991 and John Dewey (Dewey 1966). However, as yet little attention has actually been paid tothis artefact in use and to its role in definingwhose culture is taught and learned and what the mechanisms of this process are. By ethnographically studying the use of textbooks in everyday educational interchanges we contribute insight into these processes based on an investigation of the use, content and effects of subject textbooks in mathematics in the subject studies education in pre-service mathematics education courses. Dewey and then later Apple regarded textbooks as instruments for the moral regulation of (subordinated) individuals (i.e. pupils) in the struggle by powerful groups to build political and cultural accord within various levels of society. This political, economic, ideological or cultural power, they also noted, was exerted by dominant groups over others regardless of the explicit consent of the latter. This has also been suggested by amongst others Judy Trecker (Trecker 1973) and in de Castell et al (eds) (1989). However, as these authors also note, the curriculum of the school and other education institutions – like the university and its teacher education programmes (Beach 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000) - does not represent neutral knowledge, so textbooks are also potential sites of popular resistance toward the interests underlying official knowledge with a potential for developing alternative ideas and ideologies (Stubbs 1996). What comes to count as legitimate knowledge is the result of complex powerrelations, struggles, and compromises among different classed, raced, gendered, and religious groups around the messages, values, implicit ideologies and recognized possibilities in educational texts (Trecker 1973, Apple 1992).

    Abstract [en]

Abstract: The past two decades of higher education research in Europe describe new-managerial and neo-liberal turns in governance policies that have brought shifts in the way institutions of higher education are defined and run, justify their existence and practices, and recruit and educate students. The expansion of higher education is often lifted as a key feature and motivation of these changes and it is also used in arguments for the need to change further. The European Union Lisbon Agreement is often referenced when changes are discussed and motivated by change agents. It describes needs of effectiveness and new kinds of programmes and courses to deal with increased volume and widening participation. New demands are described as having been placed on teachers, students and leadership, including an expanded role for student choices of and in higher education. Based on ethnographic research key aspects of extended choice are examined in the present article. Keywords: cultural capital, choice rationalities, skilled/semi-skilled choices, generification

    Abstract [en]

The organization of schools in Sweden has recently taken a significant turn toward neo-liberalism. A number of elements are involved. In this article we point to a risk of self segregation in these developments by means of which ethnic minority, economically disadvantaged and immigrant groups become concentrated in the same schools, within mainly the public sector. We also suggest that these schools thus face serious difficulties when it comes to creating encounters between different social, ethnic and religious groups as a school capable of mobilization for citizenship. We need such schools but there is no evidence that schools are developing in these directions in the neo-liberal era.

    Abstract [en]

In this article, using data from ethnographic research, we try to present some glimpses of the way education is described as an experience and possibility ‘from below’, by pupils who grow up and study in schools in the most segregated and territorially stigmatized suburbs on the outskirts of our major cities. What we feel they describe is an experience of schooling for surviving the social and economic consequences of curtailed citizenship in a post-industrial society rather than one of schooling that offers possibilities of integration and full citizenship or social transformation. Our findings have significant policy implications in this respect. Sweden has historically pursued projects aimed at educational inclusion but has recently taken a significant turn toward neo-liberalism and educational consumerism, since which time various disadvantaged groups have become increasingly concentrated compared to others in under-achieving schools in an economically threatened public sector. The article discusses some aspects and possible consequences of this development.

Based on ethnographic research on the encounter between local culture and schools in multicultural suburban areas, this article explores possibilities suggested by autonomous learning activities in a hip-hop collective that may have a potential to break urban segregation patterns. The collective?s artistic production raises questions that have not been answered in schools, such as how the increasing class divisions between different parts of the urban landscape should be understood and dealt with. Different types of learning are identified connected to the self, others, and careers. Implications for schooling are briefly discussed.

Over the last twenty-five years the urban music and dance style known as Hip-hop has become a widespread form of communication carried out and enjoyed by people throughout the world. However it has grown from its original roots in rap music and break dancing in many different directions. On the one hand it represents a multi-billion dollar industry of big-time, best-selling artists who market songs that focus on wealth, possessions and crime, often with a misogynistic attitude. But on the other it is a way of life for many young people with a political awareness that is intricately woven into every aspect of their daily lives. The present chapter explores some dimensions of the creativity of Hip-hop. In particular the critical potential and transformative capacity of these activities are discussed.

This paper aims to give an account of the meanings have been attributed to the rural school in two educational systems characterized by rurality such as Sweden and Spain, between the second part of the 20th century and the first years of the 21st century. The analysis is made taking the literature about the subject and a meta-ethnographic study based on different research projects in both countries as well as in its publications. It highlights a representation of the rural school’s value by reinforcing the relevance of the space for its understanding.

    Abstract [en]

By examining newspaper articles from two different timeperiods in a public library’s life, specifically the main citylibrary of Gothenburg 1964-68 and 2004-2015, thismaster’s thesis studies the discourse of library practice aswell as its societal role during the building and re-buildingof the library. The empirical material is examined byapplying the discourse theory and method of ErnestoLaclau and Chantal Mouffe. With this methodology wealso aim to analyze how the power is distributed betweenthe different roles that emerge depending on in what waythey speak about or is being spoken of in the material. In the analysis of the material, we have identified severalmore or less dominant discourses that construct certain, and often contradictory, views on the city library’s practiceand role in society. The major discourses that emergedin the material during the 1960’s were the book discourseand the cultural centre discourse. The book discoursepromotes traditional and authoritarian views of themediation and conservation of printed, quality books aswell as being associated with strong ideals of enlightenmentand education. The culture centre discoursepromotes a wide library practice, entailing many differentcultural and political activities as well as a wide range ofpeople. The book discourse can be seen all the waythrough the 2000’s, but the later period is dominated bythe information mediation discourse that places the userand its needs at the core of the library’s mission.

Barnhälsovårdssjuksköterskans upplevelse av hembesök när barnet är åtta månader: En kvalitativ intervjustudie2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Bröstcancerdrabbade kvinnors upplevelse av sexuell dysfunktion efter genomgången mastektomi: En litteraturöversikt2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The Worth of Goods: Valuation and Pricing in the Economy2011Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Interdisciplinary contributions from sociology, economics, political science, and marketing Presents empirical studies of both financial and some unusual markets - wine, art, fashion Pioneering work at intersection of sociology, economics, and marketing Chapters by leading international scholars in economic sociology Revisits both established theories of value and current thinking How do we place value on goods - and, importantly, why? Valuation and pricing are core issues in the market economy, but understanding of these concepts and their interrelation is weak. In response, The Worth of Goods takes a sociological approach to the perennial but timely question of what makes a product valuable. Structured in three parts, it first examines value in the broader sense - moral values and how they are formed, and the relations between economic and non-economic values - discussing such matters as the value of an oil spill, the price of a scientific paper, value in ethical consumption, and imaginative value. The second part discusses the issues surrounding valuation in aesthetic markets, specifically wine, fashion models, art, and the creative industries. The third part analyzes valuation in financial markets - credit rating agencies, stock exchange markets, and industrial production. This pioneering volume brings together leading social scientists to provide a range of theoretical tools and case studies for understanding price and the creation of value in markets within social and cultural contexts and preconditions. It is an important source for scholars in economics, sociology, anthropology, and political science interested in how markets work, and how value is established. Readership: Academics, researchers, and advanced students in Business and Management, Sociology, Economics, and Marketing The specification in this catalogue, including without limitation price, format, extent, number of illustrations, and month of publication, was as accurate as possible at the time the catalogue was compiled. Occasionally, due to the nature of some contractual restrictions, we are unable to ship a specific product to a particular territory. Jacket

    Abstract [en]

There are many research studies about integration processes but none about user education for immigrants. The aim of this Bachelor´s thesis is to examine how a library in Sweden contributes to the integration of immigrants and how user education for immigrants, organized by the library, is experienced by librarians and students. Diaz theory of five different ways to study integration is applied to the material concerning students’ and librarians’ experiences of user education. Students want more extensive choice of literature in their native language and even more information about Swedish society. The librarians believe they can help immigrants even more in their integration process, but it is difficult because of the limited resources. The students also request activities that can be useful when seeking employment. From the interviews, we can see that the library is working mostly with the social and subjective integration, while they don’t work so much with housing integration.

Lyckade IT-projekt: Hur framhävs den mänskliga faktorn inom IT-projekt2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Arbetsglädje hos medarbetare: enhetschefers erfarenheter av att skapa arbetsglädje bland medarbetare på arbetsplatser inom palliativ vård2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Detailed Chromosomal and Radiation Hybrid Mapping in the Proximal Part of the Rat Chromosome 10 and gene order Comparison with Mouse and Human2002In: Mammalian Genome, ISSN 0938-8990, E-ISSN 1432-1777, Vol. 13, no 6, p. 302-309Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The rat provides valuable and sometimes unique models of human complex diseases. To fully exploit the rat models in biomedical research, it is important to have access to detailed knowledge of the rat genome organization as well as its relation to the human genome. Rat Chromosome 10 (RNO10) harbors several important cancer-related genes. Deletions in the proximal part of RNO10 were repeatedly found in a rat model for endometrial cancer. To identify functional and positional candidate genes in the affected region, we used radiation hybrid (RH) mapping and single- and dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) techniques to construct a detailed chromosomal map of the proximal part of RNO10. The regional localization of 14 genes, most of them cancer-related (Grin2a, Gspt1, Crebbp, Gfer, Tsc2, Tpsb1, Il9r, Il4, Irf1, Csf2, Sparc, Tp53, Thra1, Gh1), and of five microsatellite markers (D10Mit10, D10Rat42, D10Rat50, D10Rat72, and D10Rat165) was determined on RNO10. For a fifteenth gene, Ppm1b, which had previously been assigned to RNO10, the map position was corrected to RNO6q12-q13.

    Abstract [en]

The T55 rat radiation hybrid (RH) mapping panel has been reported to retain the entire rat genome at retention frequencies between 22% and 37%. However, we found that a small segment of rat chromosome 10 harboring at least four different genes, including Tp53, was completely absent from the panel (retention frequency = 0%). Two other markers located in the vicinity exhibited much reduced retention (2–6%). RH clones are generated by transferring highly fragmented DNA into a recipient cell. There might be a strong selection against the transfer and retention of chromosome segments harboring an intact Tp53, as the action of this gene might prevent proliferation and establishment of the RH clone. Our finding further suggests that unexpected low retention or absence of chromosome segments in an RH panel may represent indications that the segments harbor genes with important functions in cell proliferation control.

    Abstract [en]

Using FISH and RH mapping a chromosomal map of rat chromosome 10 (RNO10) was constructed. Our mapping data were complemented by other published data and the final map was compared to maps of mouse and human chromosomes. RNO10 contained segments homologous to mouse chromosomes (MMU) 11, 16 and 17, with evolutionary breakpoints between the three segments situated in the proximal part of RNO10. Near one of these breakpoints (between MMU17 and 11) we found evidence for an inversion ancestral to the mouse that was not ancestral to the condition in the rat. Within each of the chromosome segments identified, the gene order appeared to be largely conserved. This conservation was particularly clear in the long MMU11-homologous segment. RNO10 also contained segments homologous to three human chromosomes (HSA5, 16, 17). However, within each segment of conserved synteny were signs of more extensive rearrangements. At least 13 different evolutionary breakpoints were indicated in the rat-human comparison. In contrast to what was found between rat and mouse, the rat-human evolutionary breaks were distributed along the entire length of RNO10.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Does ambulance use differ between geographic areas? A survey of ambulance use in sparsely and densely populated areas2009In: American Journal of Emergency Medicine, ISSN 0735-6757, E-ISSN 1532-8171, Vol. 27, no 2, p. 202-211Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze possible differences in the use of ambulance service between densely and sparsely populated areas. Methods: This study was designed as a 2-step consecutive study that included the ambulance service in 4 different areas with different geographical characteristics. A specific questionnaire was distributed to the enrolled ambulance services. Completion of one questionnaire was required for each ambulance mission, that is, I per patient, during the study periods. For calculations of P values, geographic area was treated as a 4-graded ordered variable, from the most densely populated to the most sparsely populated (ie, urban-suburban-rural-remote rural area). Statistical tests used were Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman rank statistic, when appropriate. All P values are 2 tailed and considered significant if below .01. Results: The medical status of the patients in the prehospital care situation was more often severe in the sparsely populated areas. In addition, drugs were more often used in the ambulances in these areas. In the sparsely populated areas, ambulance use was more frequently judged as the appropriate mode of transportation compared with the more densely populated areas. Conclusions: Our study suggests that the appropriateness of the use of ambulance is not optimal. Furthermore, our data suggest that geographical factors, that is, population density, is related to inappropriate use. Thus, strategies to improve the appropriateness of ambulance use should probably take geographical aspects into consideration. (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier Inc.

Bygga broar: hur pedagoger arbetar för att förebygga hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Inledning

    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The evolution of BIM in the construction business is something that involves major changes for many companies. When new technologies like virtual reality begin to become more prevalent, it can be difficult for companies to keep up with developments. A better understanding of how building information modeling (BIM) focusing on virtual reality in structural engineering and projection will therefore be beneficial for the projection process and thus construction. In order to implement VR, it is first necessary that companies use three-dimensional models (3D) and modeling programs such as Revit or Tekla which is specifically designed for BIM. These types of programs plays a vital role in ensuring that the technology is used in an optimal and a user-friendly way, as constructors have a very time-consuming schedule. In addition, all participants in the project have access to a huge amount of information, where each building component has a linked data such as geometry and material. Something that makes BIM very useful is together with different plugins such as Revit structure analysis or linking timetables and cost with building components from the 3D model to create BIM 5D, where the two D-s represent time and cost. By moving one more step further and integrating VR into the model, you have the opportunity to use buildings in a context that opens up communication bridges and creates an image of projects that are close to reality. With this is mind, in this work, tests have been performed on models to find areas where VR may be useful. Based on the constructors own experiences of design tools in combination with their thoughts and ideas, applications were developed where VR might be useful to constructors. The results of the interviews showed that VR is currently less useful for constructors in smaller project, but that it has its uses in more complex cases where the constructor needs a complement to get a better overall understanding as well as for other participants in a project. For a constructor it is therefore more suited in a project as a review tool and useful in the final stages of a project. However, it may be a tool under the projection process for other parties in projects to increase mutual understanding.

Att hitta rätt och inspireras: En studie om informationsarkitektur och övertygande webbdesign på Marknad Varbergs webbplats för näringsliv2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine how the navigation structure as well as the userexperience of Marknad Varberg's website can be improved, in order for the intended users to find what they seek and feel motivated for entrepreneurship. Using two complementary qualitative methods within user-centered design, this study investigates how the intended users are experiencing the navigation on the current site, as well as the experience of the site’s ability to inspire entrepreneurship, and how each of these can beimproved. Methods used are Usability Test and CardSorting. The result of the study shows that the current navigation system rather worsens than improves navigability, and that the website fails to motivate entrepreneurship. The conclusion reached in this thesis suggests that the information architecture may be improved in terms of logical structure, clearer labeling which corresponds to the content being retrieved and new categories, to create a better navigability. Suggestions are also made on how to improve the site’s ability to inspire entrepreneurship in a specific location, using persuasive web design techniques which allude on designing for persuasion, emotion and trust. The development proposal is presented in the form of low-fidelity prototypes, which aims to illustrate how Marknad Varberg can redesign its current website, to provide their users with an improved user experience and to fulfill one of Marknad Varberg’s own objectives as a municipal establishment: to market and develop Varberg as an attractive municipality to visit, live and operate companies within.
