    Meeting in Landscape2021Konstnärlig output (Granskad)
    Abstract [en]

The video piece is a continuation of meetings between three dyers from Sweden, Russia and Finland. We met first time in Komi, Russia 2019 and started sharing our passion for plant dyes. Since then, we have been able to meet only online but have been able to collaborate through artistic work. Meeting in Material is our first artwork published in 2020 where we have examined dyeing as a cultural heritage by joining outcomes of our dyeing process together. In this second artwork, Meeting in Landscape we have concentrated on the poetic rhythm of the dyeing processes by bringing our three landscapes together.

Our collaboration is ultimately about sharing and learning from each other’s processes and thoughts about dyeing and cultures in our neighbouring countries.

Repetition Recurrence Return2021Licentiatavhandling, monografi (Övrigt vetenskapligt)
    Abstract [en]

Repetition is part of our everyday lives: it is all around us, in patterns, art, and habits like having a cup of tea or getting dressed each morning. Repetition, recurrence, and return are also fundamental in nature – there are shifts in the seasons and regular, rhythmic elements, such as the weather, that occur over and over again. In order to repeat you have to remember what you did last time, and memories are intimate and can be associated with personal relationships with objects or clothes; they are not written down but preserved in memories of lived events, which over time become mythologised. In fashion, repetition is linked to imitation: we see how our friends, partners, and people on social media are dressed, and we want to look the same. This has created endless loops of trends, wherein we constantly strive for the new. When we consciously repeat or return there is the possibility to pay attention to our behaviour in relation to consumption and how we spend our time, wear our clothes, and relate to the natural world.

This thesis has taken me on a journey which started with the world of repetition, where memories, habits, and nature are visited and revisited. The journey progressed through five destinations/projects at a slow pace: at each, textile art, craft and fashion were explored. Repetition, recurrence, and return were used as methods to explore time and timing in textile making with a focus on the tension and duality between the making and the made.

    Revisit2021Konstnärlig output (Granskad)
    Abstract [en]

Revisit explore the relationship between everyday objects like garments created from nature and human. The garments return to visit the place from its origin together with its maker. As humans are an invasive species, we are a threat to the biodiversity. The garment industry is a contributing factor to this destruction of natural resources and exploitation of nature's gifts. We are all a part of everything around us, objects, air, soil, grass, and garments. ''You" in the poem refers both to the specific garment and to the surrounding environment. The question; What happens with you if I leave you? refers to the process in nature where, dead plants, algae, fungi and animals, are converted through biodegradation. Degradation is a decay process that from a garment perspective can be very harmful and create extreme damage, but from a nature perspective it can be very fruitful. That's the power nature possess.  Technique: Photograph and poem Medium: Slide show Year: 2020-2021 Size of the artwork: 6 slides in a looped slide show

Repetition: interactive expressions of pattern translation2012Ingår i: Proceedings The Art of Research 2012, The art of research 2012 Making, Reflecting and understading, 28-29 November 2012 at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture Helsinki, Finland, 2012Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

As a way of opening a space where methods from the fields of fashion design, textile design and interaction design overlap, the project Repetition intersects different methodologies through practice-based research in design. Experiments were conducted to explore ways of creating relationships between body and space by means of translating information as pattern design between garments and interactive knitted walls. By arranging a startup performance, we reflected on the expressional variables that influence the expression of the pattern translations; variables concerning the garments, the walls, the print and the movements were illustrated by the expressions found. The result formulates specific descriptions regarding accuracy and distribution of pattern translation, illustrating basic concepts of pattern formations identified in visual changes appearing in the garment. By communicating our understanding of basic expressions, Repetition aims to formulate a new framework for collaborative work as a method for further design.

Interaction Design Methods in Fashion Design Teaching2007Ingår i: The Nordic Textile Journal 2006-07, p. 26-51Artikel i tidskrift (Övrigt vetenskapligt)
    Abstract [en]

The expressiveness of use is of focal interest in fashion design, which makes the perspective of act design important in learning/teaching. The objective of the project presented here was to introduce interaction design methods in fashion design teaching to make act design explicit throughout the different stages of the design process in a systematic manner; to develop a general workshop curriculum in experimental fashion design focusing on the expressiveness of wearing and use. A series of test workshops were implemented to provide a foundation for reflection and critical discussions. The main results, motivated by workshop evaluations, consist of theoretical models for a systematic development of workshop exercises in fashion design aesthetics.
