    Abstract [en]

    The Kyrgyz textile industry is a fast growing sector since the last decade. The combination of international market conjuncture and low input factors were the main reasons for the development of the textile sector. Legal and political modification of the international trade system is a risk for the whole industry's resilience. The purpose of the paper is to identify the vulnerable points of doing business in the context of economic transformation from planned Soviet to free market economy.

    Transvaluation of the meaning of “fast” in fast food, fast music, and fast fashion2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    This paper explores how to transvaluate, to re-evaluate and to repudiate neoliberal standards for creative and cultural industries. The paper's focus is on three creative and cultural industries -- food, music and fashion -- all of which have crafts-based origins. These industries were long under the protective eye and of, in one way or another, of the cultural system of what is a nation. However since the 1970s or the 1980s these industries have increasingly been dominated and domesticated by the still continuing rise of the values of neoliberalism, subjected to wave upon wave of reengineering and reorganization, assimilated into the global market system.

    At one extreme, affluent consumers, often affluent owner-capitalists or financiers, are empowered to determine what is good food, good music, or good fashion. These affluents are now increasingly co-creators of what they consider culturally meaningful for themselves. Growing amounts of resources flow in the direction of making and keeping the affluents content, which is not always in fit with culturally meaningful content from the perspective of the traditional or authentic creatives in these industries: the chefs, the artists, the designers, What the affluents desire are fancy restaurants, selective clubs, and expensive clothes. Catering to the lifestyles of these rich and famous is increasingly a trans-industry of its own, with ever less room for authentic cultural creation, as authenticity used to be understood. New bureaucratic forms of education and training drive by various forms of "positive psychology" reproduce the focus on the tongues, minds and navels of the affluent, as if their satisfaction and inspiration of these were the only global standard that matters.  By virtue of their new role as co-creators, the affluents are offered what is rich in meaning and high in value to them.

    At the other extreme, the authentic cultural creatives following vocation and the average citizen have received the stick, at best left holding its short end. Cultural creatives trying to follow their original call and the average citizen are now both squeezed out of being key beneficiaries of participation in these industries. What is forced down throats, into ears and on bodies are degenerated, industrialized and highly wasteful variations - fast food, fast music, fast fashion - co-created with and for the affluents. Almost explicitly hindered by market prices to access such meaning, in any case, the cultural creatives and the average citizen are face to face with the neoliberal tide that is drowning the original authenticity of arts of crafts and their meanings. Values that originally drove food, music, and fashion industries, such as sustainability, are now increasingly dominated, converted and domesticated by neoliberal, technocratic and bureaucratic values and ideologies.

    Analysis of food, music and fashion industries in various countries in this paper suggests that to transvaluate the neoliberal tide what is needed is a trans-disciplinary mindset, reminiscent of authentic innocence of the crafts-minded and pre-industrial hierarchy of life-affirming values and norms: to reflect upon, to act upon, and to adhere what is good by virtue of good with local environments and authentic ways of consumption, cultural practice, and creativity.  Recipes, hits and fashions to repudiate what has been wasteful and inefficient in fast food, music and fashion include good food, good music, upcycled clothes, and new technologies. The paper calls for further research on how to trans-valuate, trans-discipline and cross-pollinate across these recipes, hits, and fashions.

    Fashioning the Future Awards has quickly established itself as the leading international student competition for design and innovation in sustainable fashion and attracts entries from all over the world. Founded by the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at London College of Fashion to celebrate and empower the next generation of fashion professionals, the aim of the awards is to employ creativity to challenge the current status quo and to redefine the shape and scope of the fashion industry. Selected finalists – who come from over 30 countries around the world including Brazil, India, Australia and Canada will have their work captured through film, photography, display and interactive media, and showcased in the East Wintergarden at Canary Wharf which will be open to the public from 11th – 13th November 2011. The exhibition will be a multi sensory experience and a beautiful representation of how solutions to some of the world’s toughest environmental imperatives will come from the next generation of designers.

    The Culture Club by Picnic Magazine, Tel Aviv is a four-day pop-up experience which aims to showcase the dynamic and creative spirit of Israel. The Culture Club is less an exhibit and more an experience. It is a snapshot of cultural life in Israel that reflects its vibrant, creative soul; a celebration of pleasure through the senses that showcases the art of joy in a place typically characterized by politics and religion.

    INTRODUCTION: The discussions in this theme provided an opportunity to share specific experiences with disasters that occurred outside of the Asia-Pacific Rim. METHODS: Details of the methods used are provided in the preceding paper. The chairs moderated all presentations and produced a summary that was presented to an assembly of all of the delegates. Since the findings from the Theme 7 and Theme 3 groups were similar, the chairs of both groups presided over one workshop that resulted in the generation of a set of action plans that then were reported to the collective group of all delegates. RESULTS: The main points developed during the presentations and discussion included: (1) disaster response planning, (2) predetermined command and organizational structure, (3) rapid response capability, (4) mitigation, and (5) communications and alternatives. DISCUSSION: The action plans presented are in common with those presented by Theme 3, and include: (1) plan disaster responses including the different types, identification of hazards, training based on experiences, and provision of public education; (2) improving coordination and control; (3) maintaining communications assuming infrastructure breakdown; (4) maximizing mitigation through standardized evaluations, creation of a legal framework, and recognition of advocacy and public participation; and (5) providing resources and knowledge through access to existing therapies, using the media, and increasing decentralization of hospital inventories. CONCLUSIONS: Most of the problems that occurred outside the Asia-Pacific rim relative to disaster management are similar to those experienced within it. They should be addressed in common with the rest of the world.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper describes a project where experimental product design has been used in order to find out how to create textile products with a double function for an extreme context regarding hard weather conditions. A concept was defined using interviews of professional that daily have to survive extreme working conditions. An overall impression from the interviews was that the use of equipment to manage the exposed situation is limited and functional to fulfil a few important needs. The concept was developed into a set of advanced textile structures and products with a double function and the aim to save people in extreme environments. These structures are general which are shown in examples where these textiles maintain ordinary daily live activities.

    The present study examines adult–child touch and its functions in a Swedish preschool (for 1 to 5-year-old children). The data are naturalistic observations and video-recorded data of everyday preschool activities. The study describes the frequently occurring functions of educators’ haptic conduct (control, affectionate, affectionate-control, assisting and educative touch), discussing them in relation to the children's age, gender and type of the preschool activity. It reveals the complexity of touch, demonstrating that physical contact is used for a variety of purposes in the educators’ daily work. The educators employed touch without force, and the children did not respond with explicit and forceful resistance (such as pushing back or otherwise protesting). Adult-initiated haptic behaviour served a continuum of social purposes – from social–relational work, such as establishing and building affectively positive, caring, social relations, to practical and educative organisational efforts to manage the complex and busy preschool life. The distribution of adult–child touch categories brings attention to the bodily aspects of the early childhood educational setting and highlights some of the ways in which the requirements of the Swedish curriculum for Preschool and its focus on educare are actualised in the educators’ embodied conduct.

    Vid Högskolan i Borås bedrivs ett utredningsarbete med syfte att klargöra förutsättningarna för att inrätta ett centrum för studier av risk, profession och säkerhet. Parallellt med resonemang rörande lämpliga styr- och organisationsformer behandlas hur utbildningen inom området bör utformas. I skrivande stund är inriktningen att utveckla och erbjuda ett magisterprogram inom området management där en inriktning är mot risk och säkerhet. En satsning på utbildning fordrar forskningsanknytning och förekomsten av forskning inom området risk och säkerhet utgör därför en viktig utgångspunkt för det fortsatta arbetet. Vid högskolan finns idag forskning som belyser risk och säkerhetsfrågor inom skilda verksamhetsområden och med olika teoretiska utgångspunkter. Området spänner från hur risker hanteras i det vardagliga arbetet för olika professioner till hur risker kan elimineras och osäkerhet reduceras i samband med extra ordinära händelser. Högskolan i Borås ska vara ett komplett professionslärosäte och bedriva nydanande och samhällsrelevant utbildning och forskning. Ett flervetenskapligt ideal präglar utbildning och forskning, där problemet som ska belysas är i centrum och inte den akademiska disciplinen. Att bedriva utbildning och forskning inom risk och säkerhet är i enlighet med lärosätets ideal och inriktning. Genom att anlägga ett risk- och säkerhetsperspektiv på olika typer av samhälleliga fenomen i utbildning och forskning uppmärksammas dels nya frågor, dels beforskas områden och fenomen utifrån ett i förhållande till traditionell disciplinär forskning alternativt perspektiv, och därigenom kan ny kunskap erhållas. Ett led i utvecklingen av forskningsverksamheten vid högskolan är sammanställningen och publiceringen av föreliggande antologi. Två av de ledande forskarna inom området, Bertil Rolandsson och Håkan Torstensson, har tagit initiativ till antologin och fungerat som redaktörer. Fem bidrag publiceras i rapporten som tillsammans visar vad forskning kring risk och säkerhet kan vara och vilken inriktning forskningen har vid Högskolan i Borås. Tre bidrag har fokus på transportbranschen, ett på polisiär verksamhet och ett på vårdverksamhet. Det finns således en spridning över praktiska fält och även spridning vad gäller teoretiska utgångspunkter. Rapporten är nummer tretton i högskolans rapportserie Vetenskap för profession, vars syfte är att redovisa resultat från pågående och avslutade forskningsprojekt. Rapporten är också ett underlag för fortsatta resonemang inom högskolan om satsningen på utbildning och forskning inom området risk och säkerhet och kring frågan om vilken inriktning forskningen ska ha.

    Abstract [en]

    This article focuses on encounters that become violent, a problem in health care that has been the issue of many debates but is still not fully understood. Violent encounters refer to events where the patient expresses an aggressive and hostile attitude toward the caregiver. This study is part of a bigger project that aims to elucidate violent encounters from the caregivers' as well as the patients' perspectives. The purpose of this particular study was to describe the essence of violent encounters from the caregivers' perspective. Guided by a phenomenological method, data were analyzed within a reflective lifeworld approach. The essence of a violent encounter between caregivers and patients, as experienced by the caregivers, is a critical moment characterized by a tension between presence and distance, a moment where everything is happening at the same time. There are important meaning differences in relation to the violent encounter being viewed as positive rather than negative, based on the caregivers' ability to be present and their capacity in these trying situations to manage their fear. The findings also make explicit the particular knowledge that is needed for the caregiver to manage the threat of violence in a creative way.

Vi välkomnar en livaktig diskussion kring hur arbetet med öppna prioriteringar ska kunna realiseras i vårt land.

    Den pågående Läkemedels- och apoteksutredningen har i ett tilläggsdirektiv fått i uppdrag att analysera behovet av särskilda lösningar vid beslut om subventionering för särläkemedel. Ett särläkemedel är ett läkemedel som uppfyller vissa villkor och därmed omfattas av ett särskilda stimulansåtgärder innan godkännande av läkemedelsmyndighet samt möjlighet, men inte rätt, till ensamrätt på marknaden under 10 år. Till villkoren hör bl.a. att läkemedlet är avsett för att diagnostisera, förebygga eller behandla livshotande tillstånd eller tillstånd med kronisk funktionsnedsättning och som högst 5 av 10 000 personer i gemenskapen lider av vid ansökningstillfället.

    Abstract [en]

    Relational care, interpersonal intimacy and emotional attunement are crucial for children’s development and wellbeing in ECEC. The present study examines how they are enacted in a Swedish preschool (for 1–5-year-olds) through recurrent adult-child physical conduct, i.e. affectionate and affectionate-controlling touch. The data consist of 24 hours of video-recorded observations of everyday activities. The study shows that educators’ Affectionate-Comforting touch was used for emotion regulation as compassionate response to children’s distress; Amicable touch engaged children in spontaneous affection; and, Affectionate-Controlling touch was used to mildly control and direct the child’s bodily conduct and participation in preschool activities, or to mitigate the educators’ verbal disciplining. The study demonstrates the emotional complexity of ECEC enacted through the practices of haptic sociality. It supports the holistic policies arguing that embodied relational care should be integrated in ECEC, contrary to ideas that connect professionalism with emotional distance and lack of physical contact.

    Abstract [en]

    This article examines the relationship between radical change in an institutional context and organisational innovation. It is based on an exploratory case study of three Icelandic local governments conducted in autumn 2010 and summer 2011. While many crises, when scrutinised closely, appear to be more like threats of crisis, Iceland’s economic crisis is a genuine crisis with real and immediate effects. The three local governments studied responded to the crisis with actions that promote cooperation, reorganisation, acquiescence and involvement. The study demonstrates that most of these actions were reactive and somewhat non-innovative, though some were innovative – at least in this particular context.

    The aim of this study was to analyse and describe lived experiences of support in situations characterized by critical care situations and moral stress in intensive care nursing. An exploratory interpretative study was conducted. Data consisted of interviews with 36 nurses from different types of intensive care units. The first level of analysis of data identified contextual factors, such as type and purpose of support and working conditions. On the next level of analysis five tentative interpretations were identified: (1) receiving organized support is a matter of self-determination, (2) whether to participate in organized support or to be off duty are experienced as mutually exclusive, (3) dealing with moral stress is experienced as a private matter, (4) colleagues managing moral stress serve as models in stress support and (5) not being able to deal with moral stress urges one to seek outside support. A comparison of these interpretations identified three major themes: availability, accessibility and receptivity of support. The main interpretation and conclusion were: lived experience of moral stress support involves an interconnectedness between structural and existential factors. Thus, adequate moral stress support presupposes an allowable professional climate and access to caring supervision.

    Lean implementation approaches at different levels in Swedish hospitals: the impor¬tance for working conditions, worker engagement, health and performance.2014Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    This paper reports result from one-year follow up in a research program with the overall aim to investigate how implementations of lean in health care affect working conditions, health, and performance of employees at five Swedish hospitals. This paper summarizes the implementation approaches, and their importance at short-term follow up for performance (with regard to active work with improvements), perceived working conditions and stress-related health among the healthcare workers. The implementation strategies and pace varied between the hospitals and between the strategic and operative levels. This short-term follow up showed that physical stress-related symptoms had increased overall but the cognitive stress had increased only in hospitals implementing lean. In hospitals with high implementation pace, there were more improvement work among the employees, but higher quantitative demands and lower job satisfaction.

    Abstract [en]

    Aim to assess the importance of managerial support from superior, colleagues, external, employees and private life and its importance for managers’ health- related sustainability Background. Managers and leadership can have a great importance for employees’ health related sustainability. Few published studies, have investigate what kind of support managers need to sustain in their position with preserved health. Design. A prospective cohort study with data collection 2009 and 2011. Methods. All first and second line managers for public health care in seven Swedish municipalities were included (n=344). Managers’ health related sustainability and support resources were measured with Gothenburg Manager Stress Inventory. Analysis with structured equation modeling with a crossed-lagged panel design. Results. All of the studied sources of support were cross-sectional associated with sustainable health, but only support from private life predicted health related sustainability across time. Stratified analyses revealed further prospective associations. First, among less experienced managers, all of the studied sources of support predicted at least some aspect of health-related sustainability. Second, among managers with a large span of control (>30 subordinates), external support and support through good cooperation with subordinates predicted health-related sustainability. Conclusion. It is important to provide health care mangers with adequate support, but only support through private life predicted health-related sustainability. Socializing as well as organisational support was strongly predicting sustainable health among managers new in their role and managers with a large span of control.

    Samarbete mellan organisationer som kan främja forskning och utveckling sker ofta i regional kontext mellan akademi, näringsliv och myndigheter. Två sådana regionala samarbeten för Borås återfinns som fallstudier i denna rapport: Innovationsplattform Norrby och Textile Fashion Center.

    Många studier kring samarbete har sin hemvist främst inom management och ekonomi där fokus ligger på att identifiera framgångskoncept för att styra, kontrollera och hantera samarbete. Kunskap ses som något som bör överföras till nytta för den enskilde aktören och lärande ses som en konsekvens av att systematiskt överföra kunskap mellan organisationer. Dessa studier har även konstaterat att det i samarbete över organisationsgränser bland annat finns skillnader i kulturer och rutiner, bristande tillit och bristande respekt av varandras kompetens. Hur dessa faktorer påverkar de sociala relationerna har dock inte studerats i någon större utsträckning. Färre är således de studier som i stället med sociala utgångspunkter undersöker lärande mellan organisationer när det gäller själva dynamiken i relationerna – särskilt på den operativa nivån. Det behövs mer kvalitativt inriktad forskning för att förstå samarbete som äger rum i sådana relationer för att på så sätt också få insikt i hur samarbete mellan organisationer kan skapas, underbyggas och utvecklas.

    Denna rapport presenterar en kvalitativ studie som undersöker hur relationer i ett samarbete mellan organisationer kan se ut och på vilka sätt organisationer kan skapa förutsättningar för att bygga samarbete utifrån ett socialt lärandeperspektiv. Studien har genomförts inom ramen för Collaboration Arenas, CARENA, ett större forskningsprojekt finansierat av Vinnova. I CARENA arbetade sex lärosäten tillsammans för att utveckla modeller eller arenor för strukturerat och långsiktigt samarbete. Förutom Högskolan i Borås medverkade högskolorna i Trollhättan, Skövde, Jönköping, Halmstad och Malmö.

    Anaesthesia nursing care during regional anaesthesia is characterized by the encounter between the ‘awake’ patient’s own lifeworld and the nurse anaesthetist’s knowledge in theory and in practice. This study aims to present an intraoperative caring model from the patient’s perspective that will facilitate nurse anaesthetists’ (NA) practice to enhance and support the ‘awake’ patient’s intraoperative well-being during surgery under regional anaesthesia. The model is underpinned by a synthesis based on interviews with patients, a philosophical reflection using Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy, and video recordings from orthopaedic surgeries under regional anaesthesia. The model can be used as a tool to encounter awake patients’ existential needs in the intraoperative situation and to further enlighten NAs about the possible impact of their proximity, interaction and communication behaviour in the delivery of intraoperative nursing care. The model can help NAs to access, understand and learn through lived experiences, thereby deepening their professional caring skills. The model is a way to get research knowledge ready for use by NAs to reflect on what gaps need to be filled between what nurses know (research) and do (practice).

    Purpose The purpose of this study was to interpret and describe the patient-nurse anesthetist (NA) interaction during regional anesthesia. Design Video recordings conducted during orthopedic surgery at a surgical clinic in Sweden formed the basis for the study, in which three patients and three NAs participated. Methods A hermeneutic analysis was conducted on the data. Finding The findings of the analysis demonstrated that the NA was in either “present” presence or “absent” presence in the awake patient's visual field during surgery. The NA's professional actions at times dominated the patient's existential being in the intraoperative situation. The findings conveyed insights about the patient-NA interaction that open up possibilities for nurses to understand and reflect upon their own practice in an expanded way. Conclusions Using video recordings for reflections enables development of professional skills that positively influence the care quality for patients during regional anesthesia.
