Breastfeeding brassiere - Product development of breastfeeding brassiere based on identified demands (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The definition of a breastfeeding brassiere is a brassiere where the breast is easily exposed to the child, for example through a cup design that opens up. Furthermore there are high expectations for breastfeeding brassieres to function and fit with the modern mother’s lifestyle, and at the same time it needs to be designed considering the complications that can occur during breastfeeding. At a Swedish fashion company, which this study is aimed towards, there is a need to further develop their range of breastfeeding brassieres. The purpose of the study is to examine what demands a breastfeeding brassiere needs to meet, and how they can be met. These guide lines are then concluded and verified in the development of production documents for a first prototype. By conducting a wear testing study where five different types of breastfeeding brassiere are tested and examined by three test candidates that fall within the company target group, both areas of development and demands can be defined. The different demands are examined and defined around wear fit/comfort, function, design and choice of material. The result from the wear testing study showed clear guide lines when it comes to the target group preferences and the areas of possible development within the company’s own range of breastfeeding brassieres. Production documents for a first prototype, the breastfeeding brassiere Bianca, is developed. The prototype is made to meet and fulfill a majority of the defined demands for a breastfeeding brassiere.
