Cancer är en sjukdom som kännetecknas av okontrollerad celltillväxt, och om cancercellerna inte avlägsnas kan de sprida sig till andra delar av kroppen. Ungefär var tredje person drabbas av cancer under sin levnad. I bakgrunden beskrivs hur patienter med obotlig cancersjukdom, erhåller symtomlindrande vård i livets slutskede, där stöd till både patient och närstående ges. Sjuksköterskans främsta ansvar i denna vård är att lindra lidandet och främja livskvalité för patienten under sista tiden i livet. Syftet med litteraturöversikten var att belysa sjuksköterskans upplevelse av att vårda cancersjuka patienter i livets slutskede. För att besvara syftet genomfördes en litteraturöversikt med kvalitativa artiklar för att belysa sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att vårda cancersjuka patienter i livets slutskede. Sökningen genomfördes i databaserna Cinhal och Medline, vilket resulterade i att tio artiklar inkluderades i resultatet. Dataanalysen genererade tre teman Utmaningar i vårdrelationer och professioner, Emotionella påfrestningar och Existentiella reflektioner i samband med vårdandet med nio subteman, vilka presenteras i resultatet. Slutsatsen är att en ökad kunskap om vård i livets slutskede ger sjuksköterskor bättre förutsättningar att erbjuda en trygg och kvalitativ vård till cancersjuka patienter under deras sista tid i livet.

Cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled cell growth, and if the cancer cells are not removed, they can spread to other parts of the body. Approximately one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. The background describes how, when the disease is no longer curable, the patient receives symptom-relieving care in the end-of-life phase, where support is provided to both the patient and their loved ones. The nurse's primary responsibility during this time is to alleviate suffering and create quality of life for the patient in their final moments. The purpose of this literature review is to highlight the nurse's experience of caring for cancer patients in the end-of-life phase. The chosen method was to conduct a literature review using qualitative articles to explore nurses' experiences of caring for cancer patients at the end of life. The search was conducted in the Cinhal and Medline databases, resulting in ten articles included in the outcome. The data analysis generated three themes with nine subthemes, presented in the results as follows: Challenges in caregiving relationships and professions, Emotional strain, and Existential reflections in caregiving. The conclusions describe that increased knowledge about end-of-life care provides nurses with better conditions to offer safe and high-quality care to cancer patients during their final time.
