Dress to empress: Challenging preconception within dress

2024 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master of Fine Arts (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis [Artistic work]
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This work builds on the notion of preconception using performative art to evoke awareness of inner worth and value through a change of dress and its notable ability to distort the image of a person, challenging the initial preconception of the person. This idea is depicted through a portrait staging of several mature women. The women are displayed in their homes, exposed to a partially improvised performative draping where the narrative shifts due to their change of clothing, accessories, hair, and makeup. This work aims to create artistic pieces of evening wear through the act of performance. It is intended to be a celebration of mature women and is meant to inspire the use of performance as a way to generate design ideas.
