User involvement in web development : The importance of meeting expectations and needs (English)
Abstract [en]
For Frilagret, an open cultural venue in Gothenburg, the website is an important component for including its users to participate in the development of the cultural life of society which is the fundamental goal of the organization. The fact that Frilagret is part of the Cultural Department of the City of Gothenburg puts the website in a specific information environment that comes with certain expectations and obligations. A way to ensure that the website both reflects the organization and meets the needs and expectations of the users is to involve users, not only in shaping the work of the organization but in the design process of the website as well. Therefore, this study focused on investigating these needs and expectations through the methods on-site analytics, survey and card sorting. The results were used to inform the design process of a development proposal. The presented proposal turned out quite different in comparison to the existing architecture of the website, which means that the website is not based on what users actually need nor expect. This implies that in order to create a structure in an information environment where users can both find and understand information you have to involve them in the process.
