Evaluation of Avalonhotel.se based on usability and interaction (English)
Abstract [en]

If a user visits a website and can not find what he is looking for, the system has failed. A website should provide a good user experience, but also be easy to use and efficient. This study has been conducted to identify problems in Avalon Hotel design and graphic design and inconclusion give suggestions on how these problems can be addressed. Thee study is restricted to the Avalon's frontpage and the navigation system. The evaluation is based on two research questions of how Avalon's users are affected by Avalon's website design and what the most common problems on the website are. Survey methods, Contextual inquiry, card sorting and interviews have been conducted with participants who interacted with Avalon's website. The conclusion of the study indicates that Avalon's website is too cluttered. It has a navigation system with unusual words that are difficult to understand for the user as well as too much information at once. Subsequently, a new design proposal for Avalon were produced. What this study shows is that Avalon's website in the current situation has many graphic elements that disturb the user. In addition, the navigationn system is difficult to interpret and it is misleading. Avalon should instead go for a more simple, clean and clear website which the new design proposal illustrates.
