The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to study a school library project taking place in a Swedish municipality, Fokusbiblioteksprojektet, in Linköping. The study is going to investigate what kind of co-operation between teachers and the schools’ librarians the project has produced, and how this co-operation works, as deepened co-operation was stated to be one of the projects main goals. What can a close connection between the school and the library accomplish, and what kind of library is produced by a program designed to develop the pedagogic function of the School library? To answer this we ask the following research questions: How do the teachers and librarians co-operate within the project and how can we use Loertschers taxonomy for the library media specialist to understand this co-operation. To answer these questions we first conducted semi-structured interviews with six participants in the project, after which we analyzed the resulting transcript thematically according to The Library Media Specialist’s Taxonomy, by Loertscher. The analysis shows that the project has deepened the librarians’ co-operation with the teachers even though this depth differed between librarians. The only point where the goals of the project seem to still be a bit further down the road is the librarians’ involvement in providing in-service training to the teaching staff. In this area some of the librarians seem to have trouble establishing the need for, and desirability of, their services.
