The Libraries' Next Chapter : A Qualitative Study on the Digital Transformation of Libraries with AI (English)
Abstract [en]

This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation on public libraries in Sweden, an influence that is gaining increasing significance in society and information management. The study was conducted using a qualitative method, where five interviews were carried out with library managers and a librarian. Through these interviews, it was possible to gain their perspectives and understanding of the ongoing digital change. The results show several aspects regarding digital transformation and using AI. On the one hand, there is a perceived concern among librarians about their role and work in relation to AI. On the other hand, the respondents showed great enthusiasm for the possibilities of digital transformation and AI improving libraries, for example, in information management. Moreover, the results also indicate a need for more knowledge about how to use new technologies to utilize them in library processes successfully. This study contributes to the discussion about the future of libraries and their relationship with new technology, societal changes, and information management. The results contribute to a better understanding of libraries' challenges and opportunities with AI and digital transformation.
