Organizational factors affecting managers' well-being at work : An integrative literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

According to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), there is an objective to organize for a sustainable and healthy working life so that everyone will have the best possible conditions to maintain health and well-being throughout their working life. Managers are also entitled to these conditions. Well-being at work is about the individual's experience of the impact of work on well-being. The experience is affected by various factors in working life. Well-being at work is a broad concept that lacks a uniform definition as the concept includes several discourses. The purpose of this literature review was to identify factors that healthcare organizations can contribute to increasing managers' well-being at work. Method of choice is Integrative literature review. The result is based on 18 scientific articles that together form the basis for describing factors that health care organizations can work on to increase managers' well-being at work. Inductive content analysis has been used as an analysis method. Results have been identified in three main categories: context of work, social work environment and work-life balance. The organization can influence managers' well-being at work by creating the conditions to exercise sustainable leadership. The results show that organizations can achieve this through administrative support, support from senior managers, clear role descriptions, clarity in autonomy and mandate to make decisions, reviewing the size of the work group and leadership training in sustainable organization and health-promoting leadership.
