Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to describe assistant nurses' experiences of what is important to feel good and to create a long-term sustainable working life in elderly care. In order to answer the purpose of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted, with six assistant nurses. Each of them having varying work experience in elderly care.  Handling of textual material was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results of the study show two main categories; rewarding work and working conditions to accomplish good work have shown to be important for the assistant nurses' well-being and their opportunity for a long-term sustainable working life.   A number of significant components emerge in the study's results and, among other things, nice meetings between care recipients and their relatives are mentioned as being valuable for rewarding work. Conditions at work demonstrate the importance of, among other things, a good balance between work life and private life.
