The aim of this study is to investigate how non-literate children interact and uses non-fiction book at the library and in their homes. Previous studies of children and non-fiction books focus on literate children and their experience of reading non-fiction, librarians and teachers disintrest/lack of of using non-fiction book in reading promotion. The data consist of observations of children in a pre-school class visiting the library and interviews with three children in their home environment. The children interacted with each other and shared readings of non-fiction books in the library. In the context of the childrens’ home enviroment the interaction with non-fiction books was of another character. Analyzing the data, the study suggest that the non-fiction book within the concept of a boundary object can function as an important tool to encourage critical literacy.
