Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Our study is set to examine the presumptive differences in working conditions for teachers in high schools settings, between public and private owners in Sweden today. The comparison is regarding the working-space for teachers within their own profession and what the teachers themself think of it. The study is conducted at two high schools, one publicly owned and one privately owned in a middle-size county in western Sweden. The study is a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews done with 10 teachers, 5 of which are from the public school and the other 5 from the private alternative. The theoretical outlook is the reformation of the school laws in the beginning of the 1990s and its intentions and the possibilities that were created as a result of the deregulation and also the introduction of New Public Management. The previous research within this subject has been based on scientific articles, all of which are peer reviewed and that shines a light on the shrinking importance of professionalism within schools today. The result of this study shows that the conception of the teachers themself is that teachers professionalism has been minimized but that there is no existing difference between the two alternatives, public or private on the schoolmarket.
