Diabetes mellitus typ 2 (DM2) är en kronisk och komplex folkhälsosjukdom. Det är en av de vanligaste diabetestyperna som drabbar främst vuxna och äldre. Globalt anses 500 miljoner människor ha någon form av diabetes. Flera faktorer höjer risken för att drabbas av DM2 och kräver förändring av livsstil för att den ska vara hanterbar och för att minska risken för komplikationer. Distriktssköterskan har möjlighet att agera tidigt i sjukdomsförloppet och kan på så vis förebygga lidande. Distriktssköterskan har en central roll i patientens vård med att hjälpa patienten att utveckla sin egenvårdsförmåga på bästa sätt. Genom att studera distriktssköterskans levda erfarenheter och hur de upplevs vill författarna upptäcka variationer i deras förebyggande arbete samt hur diabeteskomplikationer kan minskas för den enskilda patienten.

Syftet med studien är att beskriva distriktssköterskors upplevelser av det förebyggande arbetet med patienter som har DM2. Metoden som användes var en kvalitativ intervjustudie med ett livsvärldsteoretiskt perspektiv. Sex distriktssköterskor med diabeteskompetens deltog i studien. Data analyserades med hjälp av kvalitativ innehållsanalys vilket resulterade i tre huvudkategorier. Distriktssköterskan kan genom sin kompetens och erfarenhet se patienten ur ett helhetsperspektiv. De kunde identifiera svaga och utsatta patientgrupper och med genuint engagemang stötta och uppmuntra till en god omvårdnad. Lyhördhet och relationsskapande hjälper distriktssköterskan att sätta patienten i centrum. Förebyggande arbetet är omfattande och kräver att distriktssköterska ska vara kreativ och flexibel i sitt utövande.

Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) is a chronic and complex public health disease. It is one of the most common types of diabetes that mainly affects adults and the elderly. Globally, 500 million people are thought to have some form of diabetes. Several factors increase the risk of suffering from DM2 and require a change in lifestyle for it to be manageable and to reduce the risk of complications. The district nurse can act early in the course of the disease and can thus prevent suffering. The district nurse has a central role in the patient's care in helping the patient to develop his or her self-care ability in the best way. By studying the district nurse's lived experiences and how they are experienced, the authors want to discover variations in their preventive work and how diabetes complications can be reduced for the individual patient.

The purpose of the studies is to describe district nurses' experiences of the preventive work with patients who have DM2. The method used was a qualitative interview study with a life world theoretical perspective. Six district nurses with diabetes skills participated in the study. Data analyzers using qualitative content analysis, which contributes to three main categories. Through her competence and experience, the district nurse can see the patient from a holistic perspective. They were able to identify weak and vulnerable patient groups and with genuine commitment support and encourage good care. Sensitivity and relationship building help the district nurse put the patient at the center. Preventive work is extensive and requires the district nurse to be creative and flexible in her practice.
