There is no clear line between work time and private time : A qualitative study of Work-life balance in the public sector (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to research the experiences around Work-life balance. In today's society the limit between working life and private life is becoming more unclear. Our study looks into which strategies managers in the public sector apply to combine their private life and working life and their experiences around limitless work in the public sector. The study is based on four theoretical perspectives, work-life balance, gender system, demand-control model and management from a gender perspective. The research method used in this study is a qualitative semi-structured thematic interview study. The results of the study are presented according to the following themes: work-life balance, working life, private life and strategies for creating work-life balance. Our study results show that managers in the public sector are experiencing limitless work. In addition, we can state that managers are to a large extent concerned about what a healthy balance between the sphere means. The study shows that the labour market has moved in an equal direction towards equal work.
