The Swedish Library law from 2014 states clearly that the holdings of a public library should be versatile and qualitative. The law does not define quality and a joint set of criteria has never been developed. This study explores how librarians view the concept of quality in regard to administrating the library holdings. Five qualitative interviews have been made with the heads of libraries or librarians managing purchases, to explore how they relate to and use the concept of quality in their work at the public library. The interviews have been analyzed thematically and the expressed views have been related to different concepts of value that philosopher Bengt Brülde relates to the concept of quality. In this study the participating librarians show very different ways of relating to the concept of quality at the library and their views differ when it comes to how they define quality, even though there are some common aspects.
